Volvo to BMW - great upgrade
We had a Volvo S60 Inscription - nice car, but small details, such as no roof rack, and small trunk after installing a spare tire mean that it was not suitable for long trips. We looked at the XC60 hybrid, but with no spare, it did not seem ready for camping trips (we did use the spare on the Volvo - it paid for itself first time when we had a flat on the way to the airport on an interstate...). The BMW has run flat tires, which may not be optimal, but they at least allow one to get off a dangerous auto route when one has a flat. We have now put in 2000 miles on short and long trips on the BMW. Overall, we found the BMW X3 hybrid with executive package to be more refined than the Volvo - great handling, lots of power, comfortable, quiet, nice sound system, android auto works so one can use google maps. In terms of gas mileage, I assume the EPA 24 mpg comes from gas only. However, the hybrid system seems to work well, and without charging, we are getting consistently around 32 mpg (same as the S60, which is a sedan), so the range in practice is about 420 miles. At home, we get around 18-20 miles per change on electric only, and so we rarely buy gas when not on a trip (got a Mustart charger that plugs into the dryer outlet - charging is 4 hours). Finally, as others have pointed out, the car has great safety numbers. A Gripe: With the kick opening of trunk means the BMW hitch does not work, and one has to use a stealth hitch, which works well. However, with a bike rack installed, one has to be careful with both the kick opening (which can open and hit the rack), and backing up - need to turn off parking, otherwise car slams on brakes since it thinks the hitch is a wall. Since bikes stick out, the lane warning light is often on. Would be handy if there was bike rack detection or setting. Overall, we are very happy with the car, and just have to learn to turn off the park assist when backing up with bikes...

My first BMW
My first and definitely not last. I'm 6'1" 225 and this fits me well. I also have back issues that I do not experience at all in this vehicle. I looked at all the competitors in this class and for me the BMW won because of the 6 cylinder, the space for rear passengers, and wow is it fun to drive.

Great Update On The X3!
Having owned both an 2007 X3 and a 2013 X3, I can definitely say that this X3 is an improvement over the previous generation. The interior is better laid-out and has higher-quality finishes than before and compared to the Mercedes GLC300 and Land Rover Discovery Sport that I also looked at. The seats are also much more comfortable than the last X3 and I love the new iDrive and all the tech features! Plenty of power on tap, with seamless acceleration. My only complaint is that you can't hear much engine noise upon hard acceleration. I like that "grunt" I've always received from BMWs and without it I often find myself going 60 on back roads without even feeling like I am.

Fun SUV. A definite sleeper to play with.
My previous ride was a 2019 BMW X5 40i and I thought it was the best of the best. Then I decided to trade it due to high mileage and I ordered a 2021 BMW X3M40i. OMG!!!! What a boost in power and handling. I had to rethink my driving. This suv is not for the inexperienced driver. I ordered the M-differential and the M-sport suspension with 20" tires. It came with Bridgestone Alenza 001 RFT's and wow do they ever corner. They came with a speed rating of 168mph since my new suv now had a speed limiter preset at 155mph. The speed limiter was raised from 130 to 155 due to the summer performance tires that had the speed rating of 168mph. Had I ordered the 19" all weather tires, the speed limiter would have been preset at 130mph. My X3M40i is Glacier Silver Metallic exterior with Cognac leather seats and I also opted for red brake calipers instead of the standard blue calipers. I've had lots of fun with other people pulling alongside of me and getting me to race them. The look on their faces when my suv blows past them. This X3M40 is a rocket on steroids. With the M-sport suspension on it, I have gone hard into corners and felt it somewhat squat as I exited the corner at a higher rate of speed. No leaning and no body roll. However, due to this suspension, it has a very firm ride and that is fine with me. I recently took it on a trip to Wyoming and got 29.8mpg on it at 74mph. I had it on the ECO mode. The speed limit in Wyoming is 80mph and it had plenty of power at that speed. I've already decided to buy another one in a few years. UPDATE: This suv is on steroids. It is very fun to drive and is known as a sleeper. It doesn't look fast but I've yet to lose a race. It handles as well as it performs too due to having a sport suspension along with the M-differential and Michelin all-weather non-runflat z-rated tires. With all the power this suv has, one would not believe the gas mileage it can get. I set my cruise at 75mph on a trip from Indiana to Wyoming last summer and I got 29.8mpg overall. Not bad for having a high-performance vehicle that is capable of top speeds of 155mph. Currently I have about 28k miles on it. Seats are comfy. The ride was quite firm until I replaced the runflats with non-runflats. I've now got 72k miles and they've all been wonderful. No problems at all. I do oil changes every 11k miles and on my 2nd set of tires. I got rid of the runflats and installed Michelin all-weather tires z-rated for 186mph. I've learned to over-inflate my tires about 2-3psi. My best gas mileage is 34.7mpg at 70mph on ECO-mode on cruise. Hard to believe I got this on a performance motor. Currently, I am waiting on my next one to arrive. I ordered another X3M40i. It is mostly the same except it is a mild hybrid and white exterior with cranberry red interior, black wheels, and red calipers.

M40 X3 Just about perfect, all-around fun & more..
This makes my 9th. BMW since 1972. I traded a 2019 Porsche Macan GTS for this car. That says a lot. The 2021 X3 M40 has a great & powerful straight 6 that is simply magic. It tools around town but can transform into a brilliant sports hatch w/ a simple click of a switch. Build quality is excellent and I get 31MPG on the highway ( No Porsche Macan in the world comes close.) I wanted a smaller SUV w/o giving up my love a performance cars and this fits the bill perfectly. Do get the $700 optional adaptive suspension as it lets you choose between 5 different settings that will please the driver (all out sport mode for me) and family too. This puts a smile on your face w/ an exhaust note that is deep & throaty when asked to perform. I have driven the 4 cylinder model and honestly the M40 so much more planted that it seems like a different car. The M40 is hands up the best car in this class UNLESS you have $120K spend on the Macan Turbo. The M40 is still more fun. I grin every time I start it up!

From RDX to X
Just traded in 2019 Acura RDX for this model. Couldn’t be happier. Although the RDX tech model seemed perfect. (Although there was some tech problems at first) . But, I found this model to be just the right stuff. My X3 gave me a step up in comfort and in tech extras. It’s a great choice.

Lovin' my x30e PHEV
After years in sedans, I transitioned to an SUV. My 3rd BMW and I love how they drive, the 2021 x30e is even more fun. It's loaded with amenities and I'm having fun with the plugin. Got the Exec package and loving all features - ACC, electronics, LDW seems more like LKA on highway (not sure if that is a BMW thing), racing seats, heated front/rear, pano roof. It's quick, taut and enjoyable. All in a smaller package so I can park it in front of my office and not feel self-conscious. A real winner.

Quick acceleration and great gas mileage
First BMW I've owned but very happy. Got the 2021 30e hybrid since it was some $1200 less than the 30i with tax credit. Gives a very quiet ride with nearly instant acceleration making it lots of fun to drive. Can pass cars and trucks on highway with easy, even crusing at 70+ mph. Have been getting 40-65 mpg on short trips (50-100 miles) without trying, but drops to low 30's on long 200-400 mile trips. I hardly buy it any gas. Worried about its listed 320 mile limited range but it has been more like 350-425 so has not been an issue at all. Always get more than 20+ mile electric range. Very comfortable on longer drives. Bought in part due to its IIHS crash numbers which rank among the best. Got several options (parking assist, drivers assist pro, Premium package) which bumped the price up $6k but feel it was worth it. With 12k mileage, no issues. Perhaps the best car I ever bought. Quiet ride, fast when needed, nice interior plus great gas mileage. What's not to like?

Reliable and well built for the money
This car works great for our use. We are a little over two years with this car. No issues at all. Only been back to the dealer for annual maintenance (with is 100% covered). We don’t drive this one as much as the average user. 26 months, and only 19k miles. 8k on battery. The car computer tells us that we have averaged 54 mpg since purchase. On long trips (over 100 miles), we seem to be getting about 33 mpg. The plug in battery has a range of about 18 -20 miles. A few less in the winter. There are three battery modes. Max- this will use the battery until it drains. We get about 18 miles. Auto- this is the normal driving setting. Uses battery around town. Switches to gas on highway. Will recharge the batter with resistance from wheels turning and breaking. It doesn’t recharge much. Might get an extra mile for every 20 miles driven. The third setting is Battery Control. You can set what level you want the battery to maintain, and while you drive the car, it somehow recharged the batter much faster than in the auto setting. On Highway driving, it will recharge the batter at a rate of about 1 mike for every 3-4 driven. With this setting, I will use the auto around town, then switch to this on the Highway, when it gets the battery back up to 75%, I switch back to auto. Even though the batter only gives you about 18-20 miles per full charge, on trips to my sons college (about 150 miles round trip) I can get close to 50 miles of battery use from the recharging in “battery control” mode. My wife works 2 miles from home and does most shopping about 8-10 miles away. She can go months without filling up. On long trips, It seems like the car is learning her driving habits (maybe it just seems that way) when we first got the car, it would run on battery until it drained (then switch to the gas motor). Now, 2 years later, it will start in battery, then switch to gas on the highway. The build quality is nice. We had an Acura mdx for years and this is just as nice. The one major complaint is the radio. I passed on the $800 upgrade. Thinking a 55k car with the “executive” upgrade, should be nice. I have never paid for a radio upgrade in any car. Well, it is needed with the bmw. The volume is very low. With window closed at Highway speed, you need the volume at 50-60%, just to hear it. To compare with my grand Cherokee, or the mdx, the radio volume is usually about 25% at those speeds. Once you get about 60-75%, the music doesn’t sound clear. So driving at high way speeds with the windows down, you are not going to hear the music very well. I am a little concerned about the cost after the 3 yr maintained expires. I imagine the battery recharging is probably wearing away the brakes at a much faster rate. Over all, very happy with the car. Bought this in Feb 2021. Before the crazy price increases. We were told to order exactly what we wanted. Since they only had one on the lot. It only took 6 weeks from order to delivery. Sticker was $57400. We got 8% off plus a $2500 instant rebate. Brought the price close to $50 plus tax and tags. Total was about 54k. When we did our taxes at the end of the year, we got $5800 back. So the car was about 48k out of pocket. I just checked. And kbb trade in value for this car (2 yes old) is $41500. So if I trade it in today, it would have cost me $6500 to drive for 2 years. About $300/month. Not bad for a vehicle depreciation

Excellent X3 with Fun
Just took delivery of my 2021 X3 30i xdrive. Very good car, I loaded with most of the options. I aware current X3 is due for mid-live update by fall 2021, but the current model still the best among compact SUVs. I test drove the 2021 Audi Q5 and feel it is "boring to drive", steering is lifeless... also Volvo X60, not good either... The GLC was OK but then when I seat inside the GLA, I know it also outdated as well. I have the X3 for 4 weeks now and drove for 1700km, everything perfect :)

Fun car with loads of tech and super smooth transm
I test drove both xdrive and M40i versions but chose to opt for xdrive. It has plenty of power and I’m not one to corner the car at 80 miles an hour. It’s super smooth xmission. Ride is super smooth contrary to what others say but I chose Reg tires over run flat. RDX was close second but the hump in the middle and it’s mouse pad killed it for me. They need to update the infotainment system. X3 is suave and powerful and I got to see what it can do as I went to the factory to pick up my car. Fun experience. Have had it for 4 weeks. Seats could be cushier but love I drive, voice commands and stuff. I went for exec pkg so it’s loaded as it comes.

Follows rutts in road - dealer says "NORMAL"
Leased new in May 2021, shortly thereafter took to dealer advised will not stay in a straight line on the highway. As noted above after 2nd trip to dealer left with them for several days they say there is nothing wrong. My daughter purchased another X3 and she loves hers, as do I her's. We exchanged vehicles and I did not tell her about my concerns. Upon return of my vehicle she says "dad your car wonders and I said exactly what I noticed" Her car does not, works like a BMW should. I have the advanced driver assist option, she does not and Bridgestone Dueller HP tires she has Pirelli Centuratos. I am well aware tires can make a big difference in a vehicle however I believe the issue is beyond tires. I am learning to hate this vehicle more every time I drive it on the highway. Imagine a $60K vehicle that you cannot feel comfortable driving on the highway. The issue was noticeable by my wife in the passenger seat so is quite obvious if the passenger picks up on it. I have read other articles where an owner complained "I am tired of thinking people following me think I am driving drunk". The ultimate driving machine mine is not and BMW Canada acknowledged my complaint and advised "feedback has been documented" My sales rep has acknowledged receipt of my concerns and passed them on to Stephanie in the service department, to date I have not heard from them. Extremely disappointed and regret my decision to get this vehicle. My daughter remains a satisfied owner, dad not at all. How can 2 X3's be so different.

I love it!
I have long admired this car on the road. When my lease was up on my 2918 Audi Q5 and Audi TT, I test drove several 2021 luxury cars and SUVs: Acura RDX, Audi Q5, A4, Cadillac XT4, BMW 430ix, BMW 330ix. I am so happy with my choice! It handles great. Has terrific acceleration and braking. The seats are really comfortable. It has an amazing turning radius. And the stereo cranks! Everyone compliments how smooth the ride is. The only thing I would change is for the speedometer to be digital, rather than a dial. I learned after the fact that it is only available with the Premium package.

Nice, but Build quality issues
3 months after purchasing a BMW3xe there was a significant rattle/ tapping somewhere in the vehicle. the dealer discovered the noise was coming from the sun roof. Now they have to take the entire sunroof out and replace it. This should not be happening with a 64K car. If I could go back in time I would get an Audi or Porsche instead, but this point even a Subaru would be better.

Absolutely Stunning
Smooth as silk. Yawns at sharp turns as if they are nothing. Accelerates like a horse out of the gate. Interior pampers you (the seats are remarkable). I’ve owned it for 10 months and have had zero problems…zero! The X3 is the perfect size for us. I could go on and on; absolutely stunning.
Hybrid is pretty good
I ordered the car from the factory and purchased it after an initial lease. BMW makes a fun car to drive. I had trouble with the battery and stereo, but they sorted it out. I've noticed that the battery distance isn't as good as when I first bought it, but it's still enough for local trips. It gets great mileage for the size on gas.

First Place Against Itself
The BMW X3 xDrive30e is a nifty machine. I found the price--although more expensive than its gasoline counterparts--to be really great, especially with a nearly $7,500 rebate. The exterior styling is really lovely compared to the current whisker phase the X3 has been going through lately, and the ride is impressively smooth for its not-so-impressive ground clearance. The interior feels grand and very luxurious, even compared to its costly Daimler rival. Headlamps are brilliant for lighting up dark roads and blindspots cease to exist (especially because of that 360-degree camera feature!). Contrary to this article, I've found the MPG to be amazing, although I've only been really using the comfort mode for a long while now. Quick sidenote: Perhaps the writer's MPG may have been unimpressive because of all those sporty, bulky, and therefore heavy additions... Anyway, I do, however, find the driving to be rather unpleasant: Although the ride is smooth as silk, I find the pull of the brakes and seemingly slow acceleration to be quite unpleasant (this is my first time using a PHEV or EV, so perhaps that's just my love of petrol cars talking). Although never struggling to achieve motorway speeds, something is very obviously missing with the driving experience of the xDrive30e. The climate control area of the infotainment system, however, is very likable. The software is very user friendly and I love how easy it is to cancel a route or mute voice guidance. The console wheel, too, is an awesome feature I hope never goes away in BMWs. However, some of the buttons blend together in darker environments, and the shifter is far from ideal, perhaps the most confusing piece of technology I've witnessed in any car. But, although short on range, the xDrive30e satisfies that craving of owning a hybrid/electric car superbly, which brings me to my next point: The BMW xDrive30e has no competition other than itself. You see, as of 2021 and even 2022, PHEV luxury cars are a bit of a rare breed, with luxury vehicles usually being either fully electric or fully gas-powered. Finding one that is a crossover, too, proves to be even more difficult, but BMW did well to bridge this gaping pit. No other automakers have accurately executed a European luxury crossover like BMW has, still maintaining its "SUV-ness," which is why I'm not sure how to place it among other vehicles since I feel it would be comparing apples to, say, blueberries. Although appearing with much in common, the xDrive30e and its alternatives really have little in common, unless of course, you're talking about the xDrive30i or the sDrive30i, in which you realize that those are the PHEV's main competitors (AKA itself). Regardless, I am glad that BMW offered this eccentric vessel, and despite my complaints, I do not regret my purchase, even if it has now been perhaps forever discontinued.

Reliability is below the floor now
Brand new X3 xdrive 30i, 35 miles on odometer, already leaks from the bottom, apparently it was transmission oil. Also has paint quality issues. The replacement car wanders all over the road, dealers refuse to provide free alignment check report, likely because getting lot of such complains. The car's cabin still has horrible chemical smell, even after 6 months. Plenty of road noise and vibrations going over 60 m/h, doesn't fell like a luxury car on high speeds. UPDATE: The only thing which reminds about BMW when you drive this car is breaks, they have sure feel and work very well. The steering is weird to say the least, no feedback whatsoever. On highway speeds the car is all over the place, needs constant corrections, every imperfection pushes it off your lane, plenty of noise too. Standard seats are too narrow and not comfortable for long drive. iDrive media interface is of the worst on the market.

78,000 km Odometer Transmission failure
Previous my BMW car was X5 but around 100,000 km Odometer, I had a Trans mission failure and cost to rebuilt was too much and decided to gave up to own anymore. But, after that, I still loved the BMW Products and bought X3 right after X5 Transmission Failure issued. This was my stupid purchase to bought X3 BMW again. Recently, New X3 BMW has 78,000km Odometer and suddenly stopped on the road and towed to BMW service in Auto mall North Shore. Said that Transmission failure issued again and they said that $ 12,00p for new Transmission replacement or replace with used Transmission cost $ 4,000 but this case no Warranty. Twice troubles for the Transmission Failure X5 and X3 is badly enough and No BMW for my life again. FOR Some who loves BMW, You should think again otherwise you will have a big financing loose within 100,000km Odometer or less than 5 years.... I said that BMW service is also badly commented and No own mentioned for me for Sorry against such a bad situations experienced BMW owner. Comfortable & Luxurious - But HORRIBLE on gas
I have the 2021 X3 30i. After owning many different cars ranging from sedans, hatchbacks, and pick up trucks, I will say the X3 is by the most comfortable getting in and out. Like a few others have mentioned, I wish the seat was a touch more comfortable, and an arm rest for my left arm, or bringing the seat closer to the door would definitely be more comfortable. HK surround sound audio is ok, but nowhere near as loud and punchy as the HK found in smaller models like the sedans. Driving dynamics is actually pretty good, for an SUV it's very fun to drive. Probably the best SUV I've driven in terms of handling and sharp turns, with a lot of confidence on snowy roads. Ground clearance and elevation in the X3 is also more than decent, it's got more than enough ground clearance for light off-roading and the elevated positioning really helps for good visibility and seeing the lines on the road better. My #1 and biggest complaint however, is the HORRIBLE fuel economy. I initially opted out for the 4 cylinder instead of the M40i to get better fuel economy considering how bad gas prices are getting. The dealer told me it would be a no brainer, my mistake was not doing my own research because the ratings between the 30i and M40i are not that far off. Which is honestly very upsetting considering a lot of people like myself would be opting for the weaker engine to save $$ on fuel. The fuel ratings they state online are nothing like what I'm getting in the real world. I have a short drive to work every morning less than 10km with barely any traffic, and I'm losing anywhere between 4-6% on my gas tank with each trip via myBMW app. I reset my trip meter on the last fill up, and it claims 118km of real distance to be driven and my km range states I have done over 220km of range. It makes you wonder, where did 100km go? Especially when you take into account that this car requires premium gas, it's very upsetting that this car is more thirsty than a tri-athlete. For example, if I'm coasting into my street without my foot on the gas, why is my car taking 2-3km off my range in a matter of 15 seconds? Just stopping to perform a reverse park take a km off even if it just took a km off 5 seconds before. It absolutely disgusts me how bad the gas is. With gas prices sky rocketing, expect anywhere between $125- $140 on a full tank, and get ready to fill up once a week. When I'm paying for a $70,000 car that requires premium gas, I'd expect better fuel economy than my previous RAM 1500 pick up. Pathetic. For comfort, auto drive, ease of access, and modest cargo space, I have no complaints. But when the fuel economy is THIS bad, really makes me regret trading in my 340i Gran Turismo which almost had the same amount of cargo space, better rear leg room, and the exact same fuel economy if not better. Difference is the 340i has an inline 6 engine vs the 4 cylinder in my X3 that SHOULD be producing better fuel economy.

Great SUV
Have had the 2021 x3 30i for about 2 years Best vehicle I have ever owned. Quality, ride, and handling are much better than 2014 x3. Love the dynamic cruise control and auto dimming lights. Gas mileage is better than previous 28i. Thought about 30e but on trips mileage is worse than gasoline version. I do not like that if you put foot on brakes after turning off engine, car stays in ready state and does not turn off. Sometimes have to lock it to turn off. Still after almost 2 years my only complaint is the vehicle not turning off if the foot is on the brake when turning off the vehicle. I do not understand this

Big, bulky and a bit unsettling
I have owned this car for 14 months now. Overall it is a good vehicle, well built and I have not had any issues with it. I bought it to tow a small travel trailer has it had the towing package included. It does a good job towing. I would disagree with other reviewers who say it is fun to drive. It is large, bulky and is a bit unsettling when changing lanes and during cornering, The turning radius is large and it can be difficult to parallel park. It has a lot of technology included, which is helpful given the blind spots and other limitations of the vehicle. In short it is a good highway cruiser, but I would not recommend taking it off-road. I have tried taking it off-road a few times and it does not perform well. Another issue is the gear ratios and shift points. It has an eight speed transmission, which shifts quickly, so quick that you are in fifth gear at 30 miles per hour. Why have eight speeds if it is going to shift every five miles an hour increase in speed! Of course you can put it in sport mode which changes the shift points but the shifting becomes so sudden and jerky that it is not helpful. Also, BMW used to use the engine size as the part of the model, i.e. 323 or 540, where the first number was the series and the other two the engine size. Now it is an arbitrary number as this vehicle is a 30i, but the engine is a 2.0L. I guess BMW does not want everyone to know that they are putting small 2.0 liter engines most of their vehicles, including ones that weigh more the 2 tons. On the plus side the interior and exterior are well executed with nice materials. I have noticed that the quality of the materials has declined over the years as my two previous BMWs had much nicer upholstery and plastics. I guess they are trying to keep manufacturing costs down. It is not the best looking vehicle and for some reason BMW has decided to start doing these large "kidney" grills that are overpowering. I think they are imitating other manufacturers who have gone to these massive grills. The price tag of this vehicle, north of $50,000 is steep. I would not recommend this vehicle to someone. I think there are many more models to chose from out there that are better priced. This is my third BMW and I must say that they need to drop the "ultimate driving machine" moniker. In short this vehicle is built for families that will be transporting the kids to school, running errands and taking highway road trips. I think this will be my last BMW given my experience with this model.
