2020 X2 M35i is a blast to drive

BeemerLuv, 01/14/2020

I had a 2016 X1 and to be honest, it was a little disappointing as it was pretty basic and boring to drive. Upgraded to the X2 M35i and the performance engine is a blast to drive! Way more pep and power. I also really like the interior and don't find the smaller rear window to be an issue at all. Overall, it's a perfect city driver (no issues in the snow like the other reviewer). It's size is just right for tight parking and yet has plenty of cargo room for what I need. The only negatives is the suspension is a little stiff and the brakes a little touchy. But, the rest of it makes up for those two details.

We have now passed 13m miles and no change in driving characteristics. This is a brilliant handler and still very comfortable. It has all the performance you will need if you are a sane driver. The new model X2 comes out next year. We have to check it out!

This is a very comfortable car to spend time in. It hugs the road. The navigation and controls are intuitive. I have only had it a month but it’s the most comfortable car I have ever driven.

What kind of mileage is everyone getting - quoted 23 in city - I'm getting 19 with conservative driving even on the eco-setting?? That said, I find the seats very comfortable and it drives beautifully.

Big Disappointment

The car is probably the worst car I have ever purchased. The supplied tyres (Continentals) are noisier than the Pirelli winter tyres presently fitted. There is a continuous whine from the front drive line that is not masked by the tyre noise. Very noticeable around 40 - 80 Kph. The dealer insists this is normal. The electrics have a mind of their own especially the foot operated trunk the wife has still not managed to make it work. I am only 5’9” and have difficulty getting in and out of the vehicle I have to lower the seat all the way and then Twist my body in and out. The interior trim is nice but the ambient lighting is too bright for me at it’s lowest setting. The exterior finish is good where it is finished, the inside of the hood is unfinished as are some other surfaces not normally visible, a cheap trick considering the price of the vehicle. Road handling in snow is nail bitting as the car follows any ruts without announcement my last experience of this threw the car into a full right hand drift I narrowly missed an oncoming car certainly sure the X drive did not kick in at any time. I no longer trust the car as its handling in anything but perfect weather is suspect and not to be trusted, nail biting comes to mind, the noise is tiring on a long journey. The dealer is conditioned to consider all this as normal causing me to not go there any more. I cannot get rid of this vehicle quick enough

Us too.. just like this previous post -- Unfortunately, in 24 months and with only 18,000 miles, my X2 needs new brakes (front and back, rotors and pads), an alignment and new run-flats. A couple grand total. I've been driving for 40 years and this is the first car I've ever had, for any period of time, that needs brakes at all, or that needs four new expensive tires at 18,000 miles. Fool me once... --- we have had our car less them two years and have replaced our brakes and roters two times and now after 4 months less then a mile change are told we are at a 4 front and 6 rear on tires and may have to replace pads and roters again. We use Palm Springs BMW that says it's NOT a defect in material or product but "just how the X1 and X2 are" this has cost us couple thousands of dollars and now our rear brakes "need" to be cleaned up and scuffed to stop the salow brake squeal for another 450.00. Just ridiculous. Not sure how that is The X2 is one of the most reliable family SUVs available, scoring an impressive 97.7% in our 2021 What Car? Reliability Survey.. not a happy BMW customer. This is our 2nd BMW vehicle. We also had to replace the motor mount.

Bought this about 6 months ago, I love driving this SUV. My wife really loved it because I bought this for her. She used to drive a 2017 Honda CR-V and she said this M35i is far more better than the Honda. Handling is outstanding. I love BMW and also drive a 2015 BMW M4.

The X2 drives like a hot hatch but has the looks and utility to be more. No problem hauling groceries or tools from your local Home Depot. Ours is in Galvanic Gold which we call Mustard. It certainly is easy to find in a parking lot. The front seats are surprisingly comfortable and the dash controls easy to work. This model keeps the BMW mantra well.

BMW X2 Lease is my BIGGEST REGRET - Disaster

This vehicle was sold by BMW FEEEPORT with RUSTED ROTARS. The dealership never took responsibility and dismissed the complaints from day 1. BMW corporate also never took any corrective action. I would never give my business to these companies. The BMW X2 design is what reeled my husband and I in. We were about to lease a mini-cooper and considering they are part of the same group, we were accompanied to the BMW dealership to sign our contract. This was June 2021 when we walked across the showroom floor and saw the floor model X2, we stopped dead in our tracks and after a 5 minute test drive we decided to upgrade into the luxury driving experience. What a regret, this was a substantial financial upgrade which proved to be our biggest regret in the 20 years of driving vehicles. I have friends and family that have been driving BMW for 40 years and they have never experienced any of the problems I have with this vehicle. I do not believe my lease represents BMW properly, I was given a floor model DEFECTIVE X2. The check engine light was on since my test drive, the sales person assured me that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and the light was one only because the car was on the sales floor and needed to driven. Fast forward, not only did the check engine light remain on, when the car moves in reverse it generated sounds like a steamship horn-blower. What a show I would put on when having to parallel park on a daily basis. Despite calling the sales person, service at the Freeport Dealership, I wasn't able to get my car in for servicing with a loaner vehicle. After some research, I discovered the BMW Freeport Dealership was a franchise, hence the grossly negligent sales and service standard. I decided to contact BMW Manhattan and BMW North America. After one year of driving this disgraceful vehicle which cost double the price of my original Mini cooper lease, the added insult is to think you will be experiencing luxury when paying $700 for a BMW and the opposite occurs. A [non-permissible content removed] vehicle, disgraceful service and after sales support and most importantly driving a vehicle which sounds like the car a horn when parking and backing up. Not to mention the tires, I have had to bring the car in 5 times to replace the tires. I have lease VW and Mini the most of my life and NEVER had to bring any of my cars in as much as i have had to for this damn DEFECTIVE BMW X2.

My 'Pumkinmobile' is a Blast !!

I traded in a 2017 X1 with 76K miles for a 2020 X2 in 'Sunset Orange'. A sharp looking car, it had 12,400 miles on the odometer. I paid 28.5 K. After owning it for over 6 months, here are the details: As prior reviews have stated, the ride is not smooth. Wind noise is apparent and the seats- even with 'sport' seats, are very narrow. I am 6' 3" and weigh 265. I need to bend over quite a bit to enter the vehicle but once in, all is perfect with the world. the X2 has lots of pep and is a blast to drive. Mine came equipped with Continental tires, which promise long treadwear. I tried to remove the middle seat headrest to have a better view thru the back window but could not. Perhaps it is not meant to be removed. There is limited visibility through the trunk window. The rear tailgate opens high enough to accommodate my height, which is terrific as my X1 did not[ouch]. Lastly, the color makes it easy to spot my car in a packed parking lot!

We love the car. I’m 6 ft and I easily fit in this car. There’s plenty of leg room for a passenger too. The ride has been quiet and super smooth. The acceleration is very satisfying. I test drove a Honda CRV Touring Model (big traditional SUV) and sat in a comparable Audi (front seat was short and tight). Both felt lacking. But when I saw the xDrive 28i BMW it was love at first sight. The styling is awesome. Still, I would definitely test drive the x2 which I did. Its a compact well designed SUV.

I wanted the M2 originally but the price tag was too steep for my wife so after test driving the X1, X2, and X3 we went with the X2. My wife has a Pilot so we already have a big car. I was turning in a leased 428i Gran Couple with all the options minus navigation. I absolutely loved the dynamic handling pack especially in sport mode when the steering wheel tightens up and the dampers kick in on the suspension. I got a ticket in San Antonio because I couldn’t resist rolling into the corners at 65mph on a 45mph road. My X2 has the xdrive, M Package and M package X. I was disappointed to find out that dynamic handling was an additional charge on M Package and didn’t realize until I saw standard suspension in my options but sport mode is still better then comfort mode. The car has eye catching looks and performs good on the road. Suspension is jarring at times in any mode; you feel the bumps assertively. I love the connected feature to turn on various items from your phone like flash headlights, ventilate car, honk horn, lock doors, etc. I recommend the car if it is within your pocket books range.

This is the most HORRIBLE car I have ever had

I bought my BMW X2, 6 month ago from Newmarket dealership in Ontario (Canada). At the time of purchase 18000 km was on the car and it passed the safety. After 6 month of having this car, 25000 km is on the car now. It had the brakes problem so I took the car to the same dealership that I purchased the car. They mentioned the car has the RUST and brakes do not work well. So I called BMW CANADA and They said we do not cover the cost of that and it is not under warranty. I have another car Hyundai Elantra. I drove this car for 120,000 km and it has no problem until now. Just one time I replaced the brakes when it was 70,000 km. Now, Just one question. Why should I pay more money to the BMW car in compare to the economy car, when BMW gives me less comfort and more headache????!!!! I am really upset about BMW and I will sell this car as soon as possible and I will never even think about BMW.

Beautiful interior. Brakes are too rigid. I’m a light breaker but no matter how you ease into stepping on breaks, you will get neck inertia. This is the worst BMW vehicle I have ever leased. Cargo area deep but not wide enough. A couple of blind spots. Takes time to check your surroundings. Beautiful body style, luxurious interior with interior color changing lights. The auto start/ stop feature has a hard start that it startles you snd your passengers. I used their loaner car ( Ferman) and it was much better than my car. I leased a lemon and has been for repair ( they called it computer adjustment) 3 times in 7 months. I have the crossover one year . I was told it’s supposed to drive like a Mini Cooper. Please don’t fool a woman !
