We now have 17,000 miles on our new Audi. We've done two trips to Florida and back, and averaged anywhere between 27.5 and 29.5mpg over the two trips. The seats are comfortable, vision is good all around, the media screen is easy to read, heated steering wheel is a real bonus, and the sound system is great. There is plenty of room for 4 people comfortably, and their luggage. The rear hatch opens with a slight swing of your foot under the rear bumper. The adaptive cruise control is great, once you figure out how to disable the predictive braking. The console storage compartment is is difficult to use, as the charging station platform blocks access to the storage, unless you remove your drinks from the cupholders, and then slide the charging station forward. Since I do the majority of the driving on this car, I really appreciated the navigation system's traffic updates, as they were almost as accurate as Google maps were, and I didn't have to bother to connect to my phone each time we got in the car. Although the Audi media system can accept multiple phones being connected to it, unless you are the primary phone, it is very difficult to get your phone connected to the system. My wife would have to shut off her phone, then I could connect to the system. There is one big surprise coming for all new model Audi owners, though: when your free Sirius/XM/Traffic update subscription expires, you lose access to several perks wrapped up in the Connect App. The biggest for me was the inability to have Sirius activate their Traffic update upgrade to my account, due to Audi restricting access to that function. The only way you can return that function to your Audi is to pay a minimum of $365 per year for the Connect app! So now, for traffic, you either pay that ridiculous fee, or resort to using Carplay again. The parking assist system is so difficult to control that I finally figured out how to inactivate it, as it was constantly giving us alarms in multiple non-parking situations. My wife still really likes the car(it's hers), as she isn't as worried about the lack of traffic updates as I am. She likes the feel of the seats, likes that it connects to her phone flawlessly, and feels safe driving it. So, unless we have future mechanical issues with it, we will probably stick with it for the next four to five years. Update at 27,000 miles: The car is in the shop for a number of issues. I noticed that the Audi was taking a long time to warm up when it is cold outside(about twice as many miles driven before warmup than my Subaru). In addition, the temperature fluctuates over 30 degrees or more after it reaches the actual normal operating temperature. We have had several black MMI screens over the last year, 3 times when the car was started, and twice while driving it. It does reset each time, but is not safe when it does so while driving using Carplay. The last time it shut down while driving, when we re-activated it, the screen looked like it did when we had the free Audi Connect subscription. That lasted until we shut the car off. Have had numerous issues with the Adaptive Cruise control un-necessarily slowing the car from set speed, sometimes as much as 15 mph below setpoint. If there is a slope down to a bridge on the interstate, the cruise slows us down 5-10 mph, then speeds back up. The ADC also slows the speed down if there is a semi next to us, or a vehicle towing a trailer, even though those vehicles aren't crowding our lane. The parking assist has started deciding, on it's own again, that we are trying to park when stopped at lights, and now when we are waiting to pull out into the street from business parking lots. We get all the beeps and tones, and the visual indicators that we are too close to other vehicles, even when there is no vehicle beside us. So far the dealer has had the car for three days, and is still trying to resolve the problems. We still really like the Audi, great mileage, comfortable ride, good visibility, and plenty of storage space. UPDATE: At just under 45,000 miles, we still like our Audi. Comfortable ride, quiet interior, great gas mileage(31-32 highway mpg), but the tech issues still continue. Every time my wife takes the car out of the state, she ends up getting some kind of warning message, or trouble light on the dash. She calls me, and I figure out what the issue is, and it's resolved. The other issue for her is that she has gotten several check engine lights, which clears when she re-installs the gas cap. Yet my code reader didn't show any codes present from the check engine light. Then we had trouble with the LTE system switching back to the old 3G network. The service tech couldn't fix it, so I sent them an article I found on an Audi owner's forum about how another owner's service tech fixed the problem. Doing what the article said to do fixed the issue. Prior to this info, the tech said our iphones were the problem, when they worked just fine with the MMI, we just kept getting "no network connection" warnings every time we used the car. On the drive home, no error messages, and the LTE icon indicated full bars of service. But the next day, upon starting the car, multiple error messages about no user being set up, and problems with the MyAudi app. Took me over an hour to play around with the MMI, having to re-activate the only once used MyAudi app to finally figure out a workaround to get rid of the multiple error messages. Two days later, we start getting different error messages, all related to no user created. This time, it took almost 90 minutes to resolve the issue. Now, the check engine light is on again, and doesn't go off by re-tightening the gas cap. The code reader indicates an evaporative issue, so it goes back to the dealer next week. The service writer admitted, during the LTE issue, that Audi is changing their tech software so fast the techs can't keep up with the changes. He also did admit they see a lot of tech issues in the shop. While right now, we intend to keep the Audi, it won't take much more tech issues for us to trade it for something else. I also noticed on the new loaner I got that there is no native navigation any more unless you pay a subscription fee to use it. That may be fine if you live in a metropolitan area with good cell signal around you, but for people like us who live in a rural hilly area, native navigation is a must have.

2023 Q5 Quality issues

New 2023 Audi Q5, 03/03/2023

Just days after purchasing my new Q5, the belt started whining at cold start for 10 min. Dealer found faulty alternator. Days after fixed noise back and dealer found faulty belt tensioner. Days after fix brake pedal feels loose. Dealer found faulty brake booster and replaced. Returned and brake pedal is now hard to press at start. Dealer claims normal and will get better. 1 week and no change in the stiffness, also auto stop/start is not working anymore. Dealer claims it’s normal because it’s cold outside. Not amusing. After insisting to check they find brake booster and other brake components need to be replaced again. Auto stop/start working again “for now”, 25 days without my new car feels like I made a mistake buying this Q5 and now considering options. Audi quality has plummeted.

So far, so good. Traded in our 2018 Acura RDX w Technology package for the Audi. We considered the Lexus RX350 and Genesis GV70. We drove all 3 and honestly, couldn't go wrong with either of these 3 vehicles. The Genesis GV70 was just introduced in 2022 and the Lexus RX350 has a first year engine. I found bad reviews for all 3 vehicles, but considerably more on the Genesis and Lexus. The Audi handles better, has better build quality, less road noise, and just felt right. I was concerned the S-Line package would handle too firm but it's perfect. I was also concerned that not having navigation, the Genesis and Lexus did, would be problematic but the wireless CarPlay is seamless. Once CarPlay is selected maps is simply displayed. The CarPlay interface with iMessage, Siri, etc. is seamless and much better than navigation. We've owned BMW, GMC, Infiniti, and Acura and those navigation systems were out of date almost immediately. Also love the LED Audi Rings on the door sills. Although premium fuel is necessary for the Q5's turbo engine, as with the Genesis and Lexus, the mileage has been 26 MPG on both tanks so far, and that's primarily city driving. I must also say the Edmunds buying and trade-in tools were priceless. Our preferred local Audi dealer wasn't willing to budge, even with Edmund's pricing tools. The dealer in town actually beat Edmund's pricing tools on both the sale, as well as the trade. Not to mention the Audi $4K and Costco $1K incentives. I highly recommend the 2023 Q5 S-line 45. 5,000 mile update - After 7 months and 5,000 niles we're still happy with the Q5. We did bring it into the dealer last week as we thought the "pre-sense" function was broke. Twice in 2 days, the vehicle sensed a pending accident and the seat belt pretensions came on as did heavy automatic breaking. We learned the "pre-sense" function is owner adjustable through the MMI. There's 3 settings or you can turn it off. We simply made it less sensitive and all good, for the time being. Performance, handling, and field economy are still great.

I wouldn't wish this car on my worst enemy.

I wouldn't wish this car or Audi's "service" on my worst enemy. I'll start by saying that this is the third brand new Q5 I have purchased in 5 or so years. I obviously like them, how they drive, heck, even the previous service I received. One protected me heavily from a bad wreck. ALL of those previous feelings are erased by what a nightmare the 2023 is. With 300 miles on it, the car experienced a full system failure while driving. Every warning light came on denoting failure of each system - brakes, steering, stabilization, you name it, it was failing. Once the car restarted, it seemed "fine" but I reported the failure to the dealership. They were unconcerned. The car has repeated this failure like clockwork every 3-400 miles, now with 2000 miles on it. The dealership has been alerted each time with the car now having spent over a month in their possession with NO apologies and NO answers. I have been treated like an idiot and like they're doing me a HUGE favor by looking at my brand new screwed up, unsafe car. I was told I'm actually "lucky" because there are '23 q5s whose engines explode on the test drives. Sure, I feel SO lucky. After repeated garbage treatments by the dealership (mind you, all three q5s purchased here), I finally filed a corporate dealer complaint and moved to a new dealer. Car's problems continue to escalate, now with pre-sense system failures as well as complete brake failures becoming more frequent. I do not feel safe driving this car. If I had a child, I would absolutely not put a child in this car. It is a matter of time before these cars kill someone with a full history of complaints. Purchase ANY OTHER BRAND than Audi. These cars are a KNOWN SAFETY RISK and the brand is doing absolutely nothing to fix them or right the problems.

Do not buy the 2024 q5 sportback!!!

We just bought a brand new 2024 q5 sportback. We previously had a 2016 q5 which was a far better suv in every category. Bottom line we hate this new q5 and cannot wait to get rid of it. We will never buy another audi. So the list is too long share in whole so I'll hit the highlights. The technology simply does not work. Specifically the adaptive cruise, auto braking and auto start stop. Audi northshore in Milwaukee recommend we dial down the settings, but in reality they mean turn off or disable the safety features. Should I have to disable the safety features on a 63k suv? Other things that do not work are apple carplay and the parking sensors. Lastly, the car will slow down by itself. Bergstrom audi in appleton (where we live) says the suv is reading the speed limit signs and slowing you down if your over. This does not not seem right to me. We have 3000 miles on it and are just about to book our 3rd service visit. Miserable experience at every turn, Please do not consider a q5, we regret purchasing this suv.

Driving is almost free in the Q5e

I have put almost exactly 1000 miles on my Q5 e (plug-in hybrid) and I really like it. I bought BMWs for years but the recent BMW designs turned me off so I decided to try an Audi. My first Audi was an S5 (coupe) and it impressed me very much. A solid ‘thump’ when I closed the door; very good motor; good transmission; good interior materials. When my X6 got totaled, I decided to look at the Audi. I am not a tree-hugger and did not go shopping for the plug-in version to save the planet, but I actually got the Q5 e for less than the comparably equipped Q5. Tax credits and whatnot, I guess. Just like the S5, the Q5 gives you a satisfying thump when the door closes and is more reassuringly solid than the BMW. The engine is quiet and good for 260 HP or so, and the electric motor is good for another 100 HP. Seats are very comfortable and made of good quality leather; perforated for cooling. Ride is very comfortable, which it should be in an SUV. I don’t understand why any auto manufacturer would tune an SUV to supply a harsh ‘sporty’ ride, except maybe Porsche. The Audi ride is comfortable and well-controlled, even with 20 inch wheels and low-profile (45) run-flats. Cabin is fairly spacious for the segment and four adults can ride comfortably. Second row space isn’t cavernous, but reasonable. Rear seats can be reclined (some) if desired. Not a lot of cargo space. Infotainment and driver’s display are good and I think the Audi app is pretty good. The B&O stereo is very good also. The icing on the cake is that you can get 35 miles or so out of a charge, which just happens to be a round-trip commute for me each day. So I’ve been driving back-and-forth for 5 weeks and still have ¾ of a full tank (which is only 14 gals). I got the vehicle with a full tank and 132 miles on the odo and drove 150 miles on the gas engine. I have now put almost exactly 1000 miles on the vehicle and filled the tank to get a true measure of efficiency. I have burned 13.55 gallons of gas to drive 1000 miles which works out to 74 MPG, but for the daily commute the MPG figure would be well over 100. I recharge the batteries each night after use and have a ‘free nights’ plan, so the electricity to recharge is gratis. I’m paying $3.70 for premium, so I’ve spent $50.14 to go 1000 miles. Pretty cheap but YMMV. My Honda Ridgeline gets about 24 MPG and the wife’s Ford Explorer gets about 22, so the Audi is much cheaper to drive at this point. Again, this vehicle’s battery range works almost perfectly for me and my daily commute to minimize burning gas. But, I can still set off cross-country and refuel in minutes so the vehicle is still practical. As far as I can tell, Audi provides three modes for power: default (first choice) is battery, third choice is ‘maintain battery’ (aka use the gasoline engine), and the middle ground is ‘auto hybrid.' Auto hybrid attempts to use the battery and the engine in the most efficient manner. Battery runs things until you get to 35-40 mph and then the engine takes over, quite seamlessly. Pressing the accelerator pedal brings the gas engine on sooner. I'm amazed at how smoothly the engine and battery swap in and out of use. Obviously, once the battery is depleted you go back to dino-juice. Recharging at 50% from a 220V outlet gets back to full power (35-40 miles of estimated range) in < 3 hours. Audi provides cables for 110V and 220V. You can set up a preferred recharge time window if you want to manage when the battery is recharged. My biggest complaint is the steering wheel. Material feel is good but the profile is weird, like a tube that has been flattened about 20% and given pointy sides. Interesting choice by the folks at VAG, but, whatever. But that’s a small complaint. Ingress/egress are easy enough, a/c works well (and I’m in central Texas), there’s plenty of headroom for a 6-footer, infotainment is good, the display resolution is good, overall visibility is good, blind-spot monitoring is very good, road/wind noise is minimal, ride quality is very good, and the vehicle looks good with the black optics package. I’ve always liked the volume knob in the center console so the passenger can turn down the volume if desired. Generally speaking the interior is uncluttered. There are knobs and switches but not an overwhelming number. Steering wheel controls are easy to master. I am quite pleased and look forward to more miles in the Q5e. (Update) 2,000 miles and still very impressed. Drove cross-country a few days ago (400 miles +/-) and averaged 33 MPG according to the onboard computer. Tracking my mileage through Fuelly, I am averaging 68 MPG overall, not counting the electricity consumed (which, I think I mentioned earlier, isn't showing up on my meter because I charge at night when the electricity is 'free.' Very efficient for 30 miles per day of electric driving while being a comfortable long-range cruiser. And it looks nice, IMO. (5K update in the spring) Still love the Q5. In the colder weather the onboard battery life estimate dropped from 30 - 32 to 25 - 27 which makes sense. Of course actual results depend on driving style just as with an ICE. But with the return of 70 degree weather, the estimate has popped back up to 30+. Wonderful vehicle.

The drive feels very solid. Compared with Japanese cars, it feels more like feet on the ground. But the design of MMI is awkward, even chaotic. If you want a “car” that drives well, then Q5 won’t disappoint you. But you will have to live with that badly designed MMI.

The Q5 PHEV is a disaster & Audi Service is Worse

I bought a Q5 PHEV thinking it would be a lovely car. It never worked properly and was in the shop six times during the first year. Audi and VW treated me very badly - at two dealerships and at the corporate level. It took a full year to resolve the situation and I was dismissed and belittled all along the way. STAY AWAY FROM AUDI.

My Q 5 has all of the bells and whistles available . Double insulated glass make it whisper quit. I traded in a 2021 Honda Accord EX-L because of the loud road noise and no true Navigation without the use of a smart phone. The new Audi is so quiet that we can once again listen to the radio while driving the interstate at 70 MPH. I also love the air cooled seats on a hot day along with the heated seats when it's cold. The only thing is you will have a learning curve to go through because of all of the Technical options available. If you don't like learning about all of the dozens of ways you can tailor your new car to your driving experience you may just want the salesman to set it up for your needs and forget about all of the options. All in all you will love the experience of a true luxury automobile and enjoy every minute of every drive. However I am perplexed as to why Audi has decided not to have an oil dipstick but instead you have to go to the touch screen and navigate to the page that gives you the oil level . Seems like it would be much easer to check a dip stick but I suppose Many Audi owners prefer not to open the hood and get their hands dirty checking the oil level.--- Not Me.

Turbo Spooling Noise

The turbo blow off in the 4 cyl Q5 creates an extremely annoying cabin noise that sounds like someone on a ventilator in a hospital room. The constant hiss on acceleration and the whoosh when you let off the gas is unacceptable for a luxury vehicle. Audi central acknowledges the issue but has no plans to do anything about it.

I do not recommend buying an Audi Q5 (2024) model (sportback). I have had issues with my front drivers door not closing properly. The sound system is poor, speakers sound burst. The transmission slips when in reverse, and stutters sometimes in drive. I regret purchasing this car brand new. I hope I am not stuck with something not worth the price tag.

Coming out the 2020 version of the same model and similar options, the MSRP is more. A consequence of global inflation and higher interest rates. I do like the updated body style and touchscreen infotainment system. However, the options available like Navigation are few and far between unless you upgrade to a Prestige model or happen to find a Premium Plus with that option (at greater overall cost than before). Not really needed in the era of Apple Car-Play etc, but I do miss the feature, especially the map display in the instrument cluster. The Q5e drives about the same, maybe a bit more buttoned down and maybe slightly quicker with the higher kW battery. I really like the features and look of this model and will be happy for the next few years until my lease is up.

My New 2023 plug in hybrid Q5 never worked properly. It had one problem after another the whole first year. Even worse the dealership treated me like I was making it up. I missed family events because I couldn’t drive my very expensive unreliable car the distance needed to get there. Audi and VW shouted ashamed of the way they treated me.

Audi needs to have toyota redesign their MMI.

I have had nothing but problems with the MMI. It drops connection and then you have to restart everything to get back to what you were listening to. If someone in the vehicle says something it will start making a phone call to who knows who. Mr. Google will break in and say how can I help you, no one said anything it must be the music playing. Then it stops playing in the city I live and says on screen reconfiguring WIFI because of local laws. I use android auto and the only way to stop all of this is to turn off the microphone permission in the AA app. This is my 2nd and last Audi.

This vehicle has been my personal evaluation of whether I could move on to a fully electric one. I really enjoy the electric driving experience of this hybrid. It is nice to know the gas engine is there but I find I wish there was more electric mode available. My only frustration has been the occasional hiccup where a drive train warning appears and the vehicle loses power and there’s no adaptive cruise available. It’s usually as I’m accelerating onto a freeway so I end up having to pull over, shut off the engine and restart it to clear the trouble and symptoms. The Audi dealer can’t seem to solve the problem since it’s random and they can’t duplicate it. I really do like this vehicle and I anxiously waiting for the opportunity to move up to a fully electric one with the kind of range I need.

2023 Audi Q5

My husband suffers from lower back pain and was looking for a vehicle that offered lumbar support and the Q5 fit the bill. Not to mention, we have a teenager at home and the built in safety features puts us at ease when he’s behind the wheel. We love the way it drives, quite and smooth, and how it hugs the curves - we are very pleased with the purchase of this vehicle.

The '23 Audi Q5 S Line Quattro is our first Audi and we love it. From the car's overall aesthetics to the luxurious leather and walnut interior it's such a fun vehicle to drive. Audi's well-known tight integration of technology and ride quality is prevalent in this vehicle especially considering how the 2.0L Turbocharged Mild Hybrid-assisted motor is so adequately powerful and delivers that smooth acceleration when needed all without sacrificing a solid and quiet ride. Audi is also known for it's safety features and add all that in the Q5 package it makes for a sound car to own.

The Audi Q5 plug in hybrid was a nice vehicle. It was comfortable to drive and had a looked good. After driving the Q5 for a while, I realized I wasn't happy with only getting 25 miles per charge and really wanted a fully electric vehicle, so I traded for a Q6 etron. Also, I wasn't crazy about the color I selected.

This car is very comfortable to drive and can haul a decent amount of cargo. The interior design is good. Space in the back seats is quite limited; be sure to sit back there before you buy. Performance and handling are decent in "Auto" mode, and become quite exhilarating in "Dynamic" and "Sport" mode. Overall, a very satisfactory vehicle.

I had a 2021 SQ7 and with my job I will be putting a lot more miles. I went with a Q5. Already put 1000 miles in less than a month. Everything works great did 35 mpg at 75 mph for 110 miles. I put Ceramic tint on all windows and roof a must in Texas. Very happy eventhough the sq7 was one heck of a car.

MMI issues

I leased my Audi SQ 5 August 2024. I’ve had it back to the dealer five times for the MMI system either not activating going blank. They have no fix for it. Sometimes my power tailgate works sometimes it doesn’t. Please read reviews of this vehicle before you’re thinking of getting one I didn’t. I just fell over when I was negotiating for this car as I just had open-heart surgery a three months before sold cars for 12 years and did everything wrong on the lease deal I’m trying to enjoy it but you just never know from day-to-day. What’s gonna go wrong next Audi refuses to buy it back at all and now I regret getting it

Every time I drive my Q5, I feel happy. I traded in a 2020 Toyota Camry XSE AWD and don’t regret it at all. The Audi has very comfortable seats with extenders, handles well around curves, has a smooth and quiet highway drive (which I do a lot of), has quick acceleration, and obtains great gas mileage. It usually gets 28-29 miles to a gallon. I love the gray interior and blue exterior colors. This is my first Audi but have owned and currently own a couple of VWs. Audi is definitely worth spending the extra money and step up from VW but still love my 2012 VW Eos(nothing handles like it) and 2021 VW Tiguan.

Traded in our Q3 for a 2024 Q5 S-line 45 with all the options. Two months use so far and I am impressed (again) with Audi’s attention to ergonomics throughout the car (cockpit, controls, seats, etc.). This is our 7th Audi and we have never been disappointed with German engineering and finish. Audis aren’t cheap to maintain but they perform at a high level for a long time if you take care of them.

Wonky electronics (and two recalls) = bad choice

I'm six months into the Q5 and - unfortunately - wish I hadn't gotten this car. First, the electronics in this car are awful - Audi REALLY wants you to use MMI, even though CarPlay is better. So if there are multiple phones in the car, it's not easy to choose the right one. If you connect one through Bluetooth and plug it in to charge, it will completely disconenct from the phone. It's maddening. There's no good place to set down a large phone in the car. The slot they have looks like it will fit an iPhone 4. So get used to giving up a drink holder and/or having the phone fly all over the car (it's happened several times.) The regenerative braking on this car is awful - it's not even close to one-pedal driving. It seems like they didn't want to give up the service revenue from brake jobs. The electrical plug on this car (one of the recalls, as it can catch your house on fire) is always confusing to disengage. The pickup -for an "S" Audi with an electric engine - is surprisingly awful. The electric range is 30 miles or so (which is about 80% of our usage.) Limited, but passable. All in all, this car shows all of its compromises...and not in a good way. I really wish we had picked another vehicle - one that seems committed to electric power rather than the slapdash approach of Audi.

Thus far, I’ve driven my Q5 55 TFSIe from Boston to LA, and all through the mountains and desert of California. This vehicle absolutely tears the road up for me. My favorite is when some idiot is tailgating me and swerving at 85mph, throwing his hands up, I just move over and once he goes to fly past me in a fit of rage, I just blow him away for the fun of it. The combined performance of the 2.0 turbo and electric is amazing; while the turbo spools, the electric pushes me right through. 0-60 is great, but for me the 80-100+ is amazing. The drive is extremely tight. Fingers crossed I haven’t had to deal with Audi/VW yet.
