Amazing Value - 2nd VW!

2019 Volkswagen Jetta
I previously had a 2011 VW Jetta that got me through college and I loved that car everyday. As soon as I saw this model, I knew it was the perfect replacement (7 year old VW with 135,000 miles with no issues!)
I admired the sunroof and habanero metallic paint the most. I enjoy all of the high-tech features, particularly the drivers assistance aids. However, I will note that the lane … assist can be somewhat frightening on unclearly marked roads (starts to veer into other lanes unexpectedly.) However, it takes minimal effort to defeat the vehicle’s attempts.
The fuel economy is phenomenal. I’m averaging 40.2 over 2,500 miles in an even mix of highway (traffic), and city driving. The turbo is fun; I don’t miss my old car’s extra 23 horsepower whatsoever. The 8-speed automatic isn’t the fastest shifting, but meets my expectations for a $28k car and keeps the turbo in the torque band easily. The suspension absorbs bumps well, but doesn’t lean much during sharp cornering.
I was unpleasantly surprised to find several small things missing from my last Jetta. These include trunk hooks, glovebox lighting, power port or door lock switches in the backseat, and the light switch looks very cheap. I am, however, pleasantly surprised by the increase in materials quality (to include genuine leather seats.)
The Corolla doesn’t compare to this vehicle in my opinion, the Civic makes for great competition but isn’t as high of quality, the Sentra is a joke, the Mazda 3 is probably this car’s biggest competition (actually it’s smaller than the Jetta), and the Hyundai/Kia twins don’t provide similar refinement.
Overall, I’m very pleased with this upgrade and continue to encourage friends and family to join the VW family (we have cookies [my dealer actually sent me cookies in the mail from a charity that helps place disabled workers].)
Update (8/3): 10k miles, 2 road trips, and one $45 dealership oil change, this car keeps a smile on my face.
Update (2/26) 19k miles, more road trips, a $23 dealership oil change, and I (easily) changed the cabin air and engine air filter for ~$40. Still love the car and the Habanero Orange still shines like when it was new.
Update (8/26) 29k miles and the 30k service complete. There was a transmission recall, so VW gave me a loaner Passat for the day. I’m still very pleased with my purchase, and have averaged 42mpg over the last ~3k miles!
