As a good Aunt I thought I was doing my 16 year old Niece a favor by buying her her first car a 1993 Saturn. It's turned into a nightmare. I purchased it about a year ago and it sat in my driveway until her birthday in the spring. I would go out and attempt to turn it over every so often and it would be dead. I figured it was ... I have a 1993 saturn and i am having trouble with the idle speed, when i put the car in drive or reverse the engine idles too low (approx 800 rpm) and the engine rattles and squeaks, especially if i have the air on. Isn't the engine supposed to idle back up to 1000 rpm"s when i turn the air on. I believe this problem is caused by the idle speed ... Read More

I have both Saturn and Mazda, and the Saturn is the best. It is a 1993 and the Mazda is a 2002. The Mazda sits while I drive the old reliable saturn.

I had purchased a brand new 2000 SW2. The following items had to be fixed in about 3.5 years. 1. transmission quill bearing. 2. intake manifold coolant leak. 3. clutch failed at 42 k. 4. battery went dead (AC Delco battery) at 3 years and leaked acid ruining cables. 5. electrical short that kept the lights on. The first two years of ownership went well and then the car needed all ... Read More

  • My First Saturn (Here's Hoping)

So,I bought myself a Saturn (and so far, no buyers remorse)! I owned a 1993 Ford Escort that has done well for me for the past five years, with nearly 100 thousand miles on the clock. I was going to keep it a while longer, but the automatic seat belt system broke on the drivers side, leaving me without a shoulder belt. I was given an estimate of 500 dollars to ... Read More

Luckily, I haven't had the engine problems discussed by many visitors. I too change my own oil every 3,000 miles, and have had to add 1/2-1 quart of oil beginning around 50,000 miles. My 94 SL-1 has 148,000 miles. I purchased the car in part because it was plastic and would not (presumably) rust. The metal parts of the doors (painted black) are rusting on the inside and outside of the ... Read More

We purchased our 1993 Saturn SL1 used with 63,000 miles from a dealer. We also purchased a 2 year warranty that included the drive train. After driving 2000 miles we checked the oil and found it to be low. This observation was repeatedly found every 800 to 1000 miles. We brought it back and the response was that it was still running and couldn't honor the warranty until the engine failed ... Read More

  • Saturn trade-in policy cheap?

One more question: The sales rep looked at our Toyota Tercel 1993 4-door, 135,000 miles, said they would give us so little for it she wouldn't even put it in the numbers she was working up as a trade-in. But doing the calculations on edmunds.com and the kelley's blue book (kbb.com) the trade-in values were calculated as $1,600 and $2,250. That's so little it doesn't count? Or is Saturn being tough ... Read More

While it is definitely useful for everyone to share their Saturn experiences, good and bad, it seems that I've recently read more negative than positive remarks. And that is understandable since we voice our complaints more than we relay our satisifaction. So, I wanted write about my Saturn experience. My wife and I bought a brand new 1993 SL1 in May of that year, just 10 days before our wedding. It ... Read More

Hello all, I am currently shopping around for a new (well... new to me, anyway) car, and I've stumbled across the 1993 Saturn SL1. I like the look of the car, and it drives quite well. It's a manual transmission, which I really like (and it's amazing how few manual transmission cars I've been able to find on the used car lots these days!), and just seems like a good car. ...
