I have been reading through this forum since my 2007 Saturn Ion started having power steering issues. It suddenly started one day when it shut off all of a sudden while I was driving. From then it has been off and on for no reason. I tried replacing the 60 amp fuse that controls the power steering (though the other one wasn't blown) and that didn't help. Then all of a ... I am having a similar problem with my 2005 Saturn Ion. The power steering stopped working, the speedometer stopped working (it remains at 0 regardless of my speed), also the odometer doesn't seem to work either - my mileage does not increment when I drive. There is an engine diagnostic code of P0502. I saw posts from 2007 Saturn Ion owners who say that they received letters from GM in 2009 ... Read More
Jennifer, Dream on! Just kidding of course. If GM had a plan to hav a recall, why did they then let this problem remain for all this time! We encounterd this specific problem in 2007 on one of our dozen plus ION's, less and one thousand miles out of warranty but still within 36 months. The dealership mishandled the repair, could never show what parts (lock-cylinder etc) they replaced but charged ... Read More

I have had my 2003 Saturn sitting for 3 months because of this. I researched it last year and the problem is the ignition switch solonoid. They are easy to swap out and cheap ($25). I don't have the tools to do it and had bought another car and I am lazy; so it isn't fixed yet. It is the lubricant (grease) in the switch that is the failpoint and causes ... Read More

Hi, I just ran into a problem this weekend when I went to the store and tried to turn my car off and it wouldn't turn off. Its the holiday and no one was open. This seems to be very good information. I looked in my 2007 Ion manual and could not find details without reading the whole manual. Can you post where the info is located? I called AAA and the driver opened the fuse box and pulled the ECM (engine control module?) fuse to shut the engine down. He replaced the fuse and we re-started the engine. The engine ran VERY rough. Hope it ... Read More
Saturn Ion ignition key stuck? A possible solution is to replace the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) SOLENOID. The Saturn dealership pronounced it "bitsy cell-a-noid" - It is the circuit that tells the keylock mechanism that the car is parked and allows the key to rotate to Off. I was experiencing intermittent problem whereby ignition key would not remove from ignition switch after automatic transmission is placed in Park. Replace the ... Read More

I've had several Saturns. Generally the older ones were better. I've not had major engine trouble with any of them, but the dealerships generally can't fix anything - even the little problems, unless you really complain about it and force the issue. The Insurance Institute's test involves crashing a pickup truck or SUV height vehicle, with contoured front end, into the side of the tested vehicle at 31 mph. This is different from the NHTSA's side impact test, which uses a mid-size passenger car as the impacting vehicle. Since the point of contact with an SUV is higher than that of a car, and since they weigh more, very few vehicles can pass ... Read More
briefly, as this is an ION forum, Saturn will be building its 2007 version of the Malibu Maxx as an L series replacment at the GM Fairfax Kansas plant.
