  • Power Steering/Electrical Issue (Won't Shift Gears)

    Written by: edw061000 on Dec 27, 2011 2:26:03 PM

I have been reading through this forum since my 2007 Saturn Ion started having power steering issues. It suddenly started one day when it shut off all of a sudden while I was driving. From then it has been off and on for no reason. I tried replacing the 60 amp fuse that controls the power steering (though the other one wasn't blown) and that didn't help. Then all of a ... I am having a similar problem with my 2005 Saturn Ion. The power steering stopped working, the speedometer stopped working (it remains at 0 regardless of my speed), also the odometer doesn't seem to work either - my mileage does not increment when I drive. There is an engine diagnostic code of P0502. I saw posts from 2007 Saturn Ion owners who say that they received letters from GM in 2009 ... Read More

Jennifer, Dream on! Just kidding of course. If GM had a plan to hav a recall, why did they then let this problem remain for all this time! We encounterd this specific problem in 2007 on one of our dozen plus ION's, less and one thousand miles out of warranty but still within 36 months. The dealership mishandled the repair, could never show what parts (lock-cylinder etc) they replaced but charged ... Read More

I have had my 2003 Saturn sitting for 3 months because of this. I researched it last year and the problem is the ignition switch solonoid. They are easy to swap out and cheap ($25). I don't have the tools to do it and had bought another car and I am lazy; so it isn't fixed yet. It is the lubricant (grease) in the switch that is the failpoint and causes ... Read More

Saturn Ion ignition key stuck? A possible solution is to replace the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) SOLENOID. This is different from the NHTSA's side impact test, which uses a mid-size passenger car as the impacting vehicle. Since the point of contact with an SUV is higher than that of a car, and since they weigh more, very few vehicles can pass ... Read More
