I'm not privy to the "statute-of-limitations" regarding "Recalls" concerning safety items like this, however I will post what little info I have found "so-far" regarding the subject. GM Recalls Millions of Vehicles 1997-2003 April 12, 2009 NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 09V116000 EA07008 NHTSA Action Number: EA07008 GM RECALL NO. 90047. I made the original post for this thread about my 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP that dies mysteriously. Posted Jun 08, 2008 (11:11 am) What fixed my stalling issue was having the crank sensor replaced.
my grand prix had the same problem. i installed a bypass switch from the positive battery cable and ran it into my car just under the dash and when i turned off my car i would just hit the switch and kill all power to the car. (great deterent for car theifs too) and it only cost me $10 bucks for the switch and 0 guage wire. hope this helps
My '03 pontiac grand prix GT is not starting.I replaced the battery with a brand new one and have the alternator checked in two different shops (Auto zone and O'reily). There is no problem with the alternator too. I didn't leave any switch open after I turn the ignition off.The car works fine after jump start but the battery is dying after 10 hrs. I believe something is draining the power from ... Read More
Ok I have a 2003 grand prix that is having a starting problem. It will not crank at all sometimes and when I try to crank it up sometimes the starter scratches and then it starts, but when I throw it in gear it shuts off. I had read about the ignition switch recall but pontiac claims that they don't see a recall on my car can someone please help
That happened to my 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, eventually the 4 stopped and yesterday nothing at all. I had the dash torn apart and was told that Pontiac did not put the cabin filter in so there was dirt and paper in the fan. He cleaned it out but never got around to getting me the part I needed to repair it. Good luck

Hi, my name is Ivan and I had the problem of my 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L brake lights not working. I had no idea what to do. I finally came across this website and found out how to fix them. Thank You very much.
Good news! Today a recall was issued for all 97-03 cars with the 3800 series II engine. Here is what it says: (CNN) -- The possibility of engine fires has prompted General Motors to recall nearly 1.5 million passenger sedans manufactured between 1997 and 2003, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Monday. The recall covers certain mid- and full-size passenger sedans under GM's (GM, Fortune 500) Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile and ... Read More
The recall is NOT only for supercharged engines. Last Mon Apr 6th, I was driving to my daughters school to pick her up. I drive through the neighborhood the whole way there. I pulled the car over, turned it off, and got out to inspect ... Read More
Thanks Jeff, no I never recieved the recall notice. GM says it probably because I purchased the vehicle used and GM system of owner addresses might not be up to date. sly guy, sorry to hear about your disaster. Did you have the safety recall warrenty work done by Pontiac on your 2003 GTP? I'm curious and want to know if fires are still occurring after the repair work has been completed. Thanks, Jeff
That's a difficult issue to solve. There are several different things that could cause the problem. I've seen it happen w/ a faulty ground to the fuel pump on a similar car. It could also be a faulty relay, bad crankshaft position sensor, or some other electrical problem. Either way it could be very expensive to fix unless the problem makes itself evident, whence leaving you stranded. A lot of intermittent ... Read More

Pontiac and Buick are facing a huge recall, 207,542 are to be recalled over fears of a engine. Well, it looks as if I'm getting nowhere with Pontiac CAC. My Grand Prix GTP burned last January. My insurance company totaled it obviously. Been through 3 levels of their management so far with no luck.......
My car that burned was a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT not GTP and when I stopped the car I didn't smell ANYTHING.
Well..Just an update here. I recieved my "Huston we have a problem" letter from GM saying thier "still gearing" up on "supplies" needed to replace. Within 5 minutes of parking my car in Feb of 2003 it burned to the gound. There were no malfunction indications, not over heated and ignited while I walked away. Fire Marshal and independant investigator said the fire originated in the engine compartment, near the drivers head lamp area. It had a bumber to bumper GM policy in effect as well as full insurance. Pontiac laughted. The GM insurance underwriter called ... Read More
