Working on the car

This car is a absolute nightmare when it comes to even basic maintenance. Hope you never need to replace the spark plugs on it. What typically would take me 1/2 hour at most, took 4+for a single plug. To even get to the rear ones be ready to remove the intake manifold and all the hoses. There’s no room to even access the rear components that require removal. It was a debacle and I will never buy another Nissan for the rest of my car buying days. Unless you have the means to have a mechanic do your basic maintenance, look for something else. Anything else. I’m dreading the day I have to do a actual repair. Makes me miss my vw rabbit. Will update if I find any pros pertaining to this vehicle.

I had bought my 2007 Murano S new in July 2007. The car looked stylish and was comfortable. No lack of power with the 3.5L V-6. I noticed no sluggishness with the CVT. A broken front motor mount was replaced under warranty at 34,214 miles. The left sun visor began dropping down at 50,571 miles and had to be replaced. The frame in the driver's seat had cracked and needed to be welded at 64,659 miles. At the same time both sun visors had to replaced again. A troublesome dealer-installed alarm system was removed at 69,106 miles after I learned that the car already had the factory alarm system. (I was ripped off agreeing to add the alarm system while financing the purchase.) However, my car was comfortable to ride in and was a good freeway commuter. Struts and shock absorbers were replaced at 111,753 miles. New spark plugs soon followed. Radiator had to be replaced at 132,796 miles (in 2014), while a top engine mount also had to be replaced. At the same time I needed to replace both lower control arm bushings and both front lower control arms. Car rode smoothly again after the suspension work. The valve cover gaskets were replaced in 2016 at 178,093 miles. Headlight issues plagued the car starting at 187,000 miles. In February 2019, I lost coolant from a failed hose, so all radiator and heater hoses were replaced. New struts and shock absorbers were again replaced at 206,615 miles. Two front axle bearings were replaced at 209,810 miles in 2019. The #3 cylinder coil pack went bad at 210,492 miles. New spark plugs added again. In October 2020, at 219,409 miles I needed to replace an air intake manifold runner control solenoid valve, and I replaced the valve cover gaskets again and camshaft position sensor o-ring to stop oil leaks. In October 2020, I replaced all the ignition coil packs and 3 fouled spark plugs at 219,734 miles. The throttle body and MAF sensor were cleaned at the same time. The last repair at 220,112 miles involved replacing both camshaft sensors. Fortunately, I never had to replace the CVT transmission at 220,000 miles, the catalytic converters remained original, and the oxygen sensor tubes never failed me. I was fearing that the CVT would not hold out, although I never experienced any shifting or shuddering problems with my Murano. By this time in November 2020 I traded in the car at $2,500 for a 2018 Mazda CX5. Because I had paid to paint the hood and right side, the body looked immaculate and helped me to negotiate a great trade in price at the dealership. My Murano was dependable despite the repairs needed. I kept up the maintenance and ensure that the car looked new and cared for.

I have been purchasing cars since I was 17 years old, and now at the age of 52, I have to say this is the absolute worst car I have ever had the disadvantage of owning. This car is literally a money pit with problems from the horn, to the repeat repairs on the alternator (which cost ALOT), to the rattles, catalytic converter, and ect. Do yourself a favor and run if a salesman even suggests purchasing one. I am looking for another car and I’m going back to a tried and true Toyota or Honda.
