Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsAll gauges are attractive and easy to decipher. The split tach and speedo is cumbersome. Redline is tagged at 6000 rpm with cutoff coming at 6500 rpm. Smooth engagment when the limiter does come on. No wheelspin while brake torquing, even while in 2WD. Very underpowered. Auto shifts come right at 6,000 rpm. While in "D," vehicle shifts to 3rd before 60 mph. In sport mode, holding 2nd gear past 60 mph does not help 0-60 times. Brake torque to 2200 rpm. Hits 1/4 mile in third gear. Without brake torquing, and just doing a casual street start the 0-60 time is within a tenth of a second.
Braking commentsDistances are decent for an SUV of this size. Pedal travel is unexpectedly short. Pedal is firm, but there's no feedback. It's almost a complete blackhole. ABS noise is unrefined but controls skidding fairly well. Strange ABS...it's arhythmic but does the job. Bobs up and down quite a bit when coming to a complete stop. Straight line stability is good, but not perfect. Fairly consistent.
Handling commentsSlowest ratio steering ever tested. Nice thick rim. Communicative steering, but far too many turns lock to lock. Suspension is sloppy and too softly damped. High center of gravity. All runs were perfomed in third gear. You must prepare way early for each transition due to the slow steering.
