I read the older posts regarding the engine whining in Jag X-Types from a a few years ago. I don't see any recent posts however. I have a 2005 X station wagon and the whining I hear is not only during sub-freezing start-up driving. It has been happening more frequently and it is also happening during reverse (where it is actually louder.) I took it to jaguar last year and they ... Read More
Just bought a mint Jaguar X Type 3.0 with only 17K miles on it for only 12,400 and unfortunately experienced a thumping low frequency vibration which resonates through the whole car (but not the steering wheel) at exactly 70mph and above - the Dealer, not a Jaguar Dealer (but sells them often), has had the car for ten days now without a fix. A wheel balance and allignment did not remediate ... Read More
I was quoted 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty through Ford's ESP for a used 2005 Jaguar X for $2,040 by a Ford dealer. A Jaguar dealer quoted me $2,265 for a 2004 Jaguar X for the Jag Certified Pre-owned warranty, up to 100,000 miles through 2/18/2012. I hate negotiating but wondered if anyone could give me any advice on how much room I have to bargain for a lower warranty ... Read More
I would only buy a used Jaguar from an authorized dealer and it would have to have Jaguar's Select Edition warranty. Not some third party warranty either. She will have to pay more but it will be worth it for the piece of mind and the monetary protection. The Select Edition warranty was the top rated manufacturers extended warranty in several surveys. They are very expensive to fix. A 2003 is ... Read More
We took possession of a brand new 2006 X-Type 3.0 in October 2005 (first 2006's in the US, loaded, nav sys, etc.). Right away we had to take it back to have a crinkled window trim part changed under warranty, check the excessive wind noise and have them check a ticking noise like valves in the engine (ticks continuously whether hot or cold). We were told that it was the valves ... Read More
What is the name of the dealer that is offering the 72month/60,000 mile warranty for $1370? That sounds like a very good deal for the protection of such an expensive to repair vehicle. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I bought a 2005 X-type 2.5 Manual in 9/05, but was planning on selling the car prior to the warranty lapse. With another option like this, I may want to ... What is the name of the company that is backing the warranty? There have been a number of problems with non-manufacturer backed warranties, although I have heard that Warranty Direct is reasonably reputable. I have a 2005 X-type with 5000 miles on it (its been a great car), and I can get a 7 yr/75,000 mile warranty from them for about $2400. Apparently, it is relatively risky to own a Jaguar ... I bought a 2005 base Jaguar 2.5 X-type with 5spd manual in 9/05. The vehicle has about 5000 miles on it and there have been no problems at all. My jury of one says A OK! I do agree with previous posts regarding owning a Jaguar out of warranty. My plan is to keep the car only until shortly before 4 years or 50,000 miles, unless I can find a great ... Read More

I bought a 2005 X-type 2.5 with no options (list price $30,995) for $23,000 brand new in 9/05. I now have 12,200 miles on the vehicle, and the only time I have had it back for service was for the 10,000 mile complementary oil change. However, my plan was and is to keep the car only through the factory warranty period. I would be nervous about having any Jaguar beyond the ... Read More

Hi eaglcoach. Jaguar is currently providing $3,500 dealer cash on leases of 2005 X-Type 3.0L models through Jaguar Credit. Make sure to take this cash into account when negotiating your car's selling price, though it already looks as though it is. This car's lease money factor, residual value, and ultimate lease payment will depend upon how long you lease it for and how many miles per year you need to be ... Read More

I see that the last post was Feb. 05. I also just read that Jaguar came in 2nd in the most recent J.D. Power three month ownership survey. I'm considering buying the wagon, but am concerned about reliability. All of you out there - please advise. Thank you!!
We have a 2005 X-Type Jaguar and my in-laws have a 2004 X-Type. Oddly, within about a week of eachother, we both had problems with our front tires. They started thumping really bad like they were about to blow. Thankfully, they did not. When we took our cars in we were told the cars were out of alignment, therefore the tires were wearing wrong. Granted, neither of us drives on rough ... Read More
The X-Type was recently rated the highest quality car from Europe, with the X-Type assembly plant earning the highest Gold award from JDPowers in 2005. Jaguar powertrains were also rated the highest quality powertrains of any manufacturer in the world by the 2005 JD power survey. Jaguar was rated #2 in overall quality of all brands in the 2005 JDPower survey.
lovemyjag, I am thinking of purchasing my first Jaguar, a 2005 X Type with Navigation. I now own a Nissan Murano (2004) and have the navigation system included. The price is approximately the same, the jag being more expensive by about $500. They are both quite easy to use, after looking at and operating the one in the dealers lot. If you have not had one before, but are somewhat computer ... Read More
I did some digging on the WWW and found this article: http://www.theautochannel.com/F/news/2005/02/08/025948.html Yes, the 2.5 is going away. The 3.0 line is actually being expanded, with a wagon and an upscale van den Plas option. Diesels are being added to the line up as well. I think this is all good news. $23,000 Jaguars are not a good idea for Jaguar or for those who want the Jaguar name to carry ... Read More
So, they found a new 2005 that made NO noise and took those diffs and put it on mine. Surprise Surprise, IT Still Makes Noise. I guess we shall see. I think my next ... Read More
The $3500 is cash to dealer marketing support. It is for the 2.5 only...automatic is an option for that, but I was told by a dealer last year that Jaguar never applied incentives to the 2.5 w/auto...I was trying to find out if that was really true. I had not really checked into that last year as there were no auto 2.5s we wanted available at the time anyway. My ... Read More
Jeffyscott, I have a 2.5 with the all leather steering wheel. However, I think the wood on the 3.0 looks pretty cool. Do the low profile tires on the 3.0 give you less clearance in snow? I was of the mind that the 17" wheels give you more snow clearance than the 16" wheels. I took advantage of the $5500 discount but now I see it is up to $6000. I ... Read More
It looks like the $5500 is for the 2.5 and $5000 for the 3.0. That is from Jaguar, so there is still additional room for the dealers to discount from MSRP before they even apply the incentive. And they should since if they were hot-selling, there would be no need for the gigantic incentives in the first place. I wonder what this means for 2005 models? I can't imagine everyone is ... Has anything really been improved in quality on the 2004 X-Type? I know they added more standard equipment and lowered prices on the 3.0, but what have they really done to improve quality? Read somewhere (forget where) that the Jaguar X-Type Estate is on it's way. I think it was from an Edmunds newsletter.
