If the head gasket was replaced without having a machine shop check the head to see if it was cracked or warped when the motor overheated; then there still may be coolant leaking into the cylinders. And that could be why the exhaust pipe is wet. (But it is also normal for the exhaust pipe to become wet when the engine is first started. However, it should dry out after a ... Read More

Zaken1: Do you know if there is an online source where I could obtain a wiring diagram for the ignition switch for 1993 Geo Metro 3 cylinder-1 liter?
If you had read the description of the ignition control module in the Rock Auto listing for the 1993 Geo Metro LSI; you would have seen that the part in the picture was only used on Canadian models (and even then; not on all Canadian models). That's why you can't find it on your car. Sometimes it pays to read as much as is avaliable about a given item; particularly when ... Read More
Two of the most likely possibilities are that the timing belt has slipped or broken; or that the distributor cap or rotor have become defective. Your observation that the engine turns over very fast, with no sign of firing, sounds very much like what happens when the timing belt breaks. So here are the ways to sort out those things: Remove the distributor cap, and watch the rotor while someone runs ... Read More
thanks for the help. There are two wires. One is green with a black stripe and the other is white with a gray stripe. The unit is beneath the air cleaner and mounts horizontally into the throttle body. The vehicle is a 1993 with a 1.0 liter 3 cylinder engine. It has a 5 sp. standard transmission. It problem happened before a few months ago and if I let the car ... Read More
Dan, I wanted to mention that there is another option to sort out this problem. There is a brand of repair manual called Mitchell, which is used by shops which specialize in fuel injection and electrical work. They publish a huge, thick, book each model year, which covers each individual brand of car in complete detail. This is the Mother Lode of diagnostic information. For example, I was working on a ... Be careful how you define "high mileage" for a Geo. I'm the second owner of a 1993 that is still on the road every day. During the Summer it gets between 45-50 mpg which drops to 40-45 mpg during the Winter. It has the original engine that has only been opened-up once during it's life. The little car will be retired this Summer, when I get a replacement car, as the ... Read More

had similar problem w/95 GEO but was automatic. It was the fuel injection system. Once that was fixed it ran great.

I have a 93' Metro that acts like it's not getting fuel? It's a 5-speed, so it will run when pushed, but when you try to stop, it tries to die( kinda hard to keep it running and not run over people in front or behind me). We have changed the fuel filter. Any suggestions would be helpful. Cindy

I have a 1993 Geo Metro XFI 5sp manual hatchback that I bought brand new back in Aug1993. Currently has 132,000 miles and still runs like a champ. 3cyl that still gets 40plus mpg. Change oil about every 4000 miles. Mostly highway commute miles here in the golden state. Paid about $8,500 for it brand new. No complaints. Hard to believe you found a 1992 with less than 30,000 miles. If ... Read More
Got a 114,000 mile mitubishi alternator OE from a 1993 geo metro and it fit the 1994 fine. The bracket broke which caused all the 7 years of belt noise prem belt wear final death of the second. So check the bracket easily removed from under the car passenger side of car. The bolts that hold it were loose I suspect this is cronic with Geo maybe lock washers would help. ... Read More
I've had my '92 Metro LSI since January 1993, when it had 25 miles on the odometer. It now has 85,000+. It has always had a rough idle when the tach showed less than 1,000 rpm. My take is that this is perfectly normal. After all, it's a 3 cylinder engine, running as a 4 stroke engine. I suspect that is the "cause" of the rough idle. Just figure it this ... Read More
1993 Geo Metro....replaced engine, thermostat, temp sender and water pump.....car runs in the middle of the temp range on the highway but at the top of the temp range in town. fan comes on but doesn't bring the temp down past 3/4 normal range. used to run mid normal all the time befor the above changes. I have a 92 Metro LSI convertible. With no wind, no AC, highway driving I get just over 40 mpg @ 70mph. In town, no AC, I get around 33 - 34 mpg. In town I always accelerate as fast as possible, consistent with safety & traffic conditions. I can get around 37 in town if I drive conservatively. Have had the car since January 1993. I still have the original ... Read More

My wife and I had a brand new 1993 red 4 door Geo Metro. One of the most reliable cars we ever owned, and those four door models had a ton of head room (I'm over 6 feet and was very comfortable sitting in the four door. The two door was much harder on me, though). Auto tranny, so no pickup but my wife did average around 37 mpg or so ... Read More
I just bought a 1993 Geo-metro Convertible with a 127000 miles on it for my daughter....it's very clean. the only problem seems to be at low end....when I start off it coughs and seems powerless...but at higher rpm it's fine...anyone got any ideas...thanks.. beneb
and I'm willing to pay no more than 1000 (Canadian) dollars for it. If anyone would have any word of advice on this engine, please contact me at my e-mail address: gogy_3@yahoo.ca Thank you, Goran
The Metro Convertible was made from 1990-1993. While the rest of the Metro line-up was being made in Canada the Convertibles were still being imported from japan, Ive heard that in a few years they will be worth a good bit of money thats why I plan to hold onto my 1992 convertible as long as possible.
I don't know about price "new", but I do know that the Geo Metro has been discontinued for the 2001 model year (a quick check of Chevy's website revealed that). If you can find a leftover 2000 on a dealer's lot he or she will probably be happy to see you take it away. They are a good buy used IF you get as much info as you can about the ... Read More
