I really really wanted to buy a Tacoma but my test drive was unimpressive. I found the Ford ranger to be much more responsive and smooth. The inside was also more comfortable although I did buy the lariat trim. The only negative is that so far the city mileage is about 18mpg. My first highway trip was 28 mpg, however so that was cool. I’ve been so impressed with the ranger, way beyond my expectations.

2021 Ford Ranger XL 4dr SuperCab SB (2.3L 4cyl Turbo 10A)

Ranger XL with extended cab (not crew cab) and 6 ft. bed. Beautiful metallic gray. Used it to move furniture day after getting it. Fits lots! Plenty of space for tools behind front seats. Great acceleration, smooth on hwy. Looks, drives, and carries better than Tacomas, for way less money. Good deal from Encinitas Ford. Very happy.

I purchased the 2021 Ford Ranger XLT Sport package in magnetic gray about 2 months ago. I have just over 2k miles on it. As of now, I absolutely love this truck. Here's some of the pros and cons I see: Pros: Fast little truck. After test driving many mid size trucks, the Ranger is way zippier than any of the other models. Comfortable. The Ranger is super comfortable to drive even on longer trips. I'm 6'2" and its not an issue at all. Gas mileage. I'm getting right at 23 mpg. With a mix of hwy and city driving. It's acceptable to me. Looks. Now this one is my opinion, but the Ranger is a nice looking little truck. Especially with the sport package that doesn't have a bunch of chrome that I'm not a fan of. But, if you are, there are packages with the chrome. Cons: Turbo. A little worried about the longevity of a turbo engine. I figured the Tacoma will outlast the Ranger, but after test driving both, the Tacoma was so slow and uncomfortable. I don't think I could drive a truck like that for 20 years. That's why I went with the Ranger. Oil Change. Just changed my oil at 2k miles to put some full synthetic in it. The location of the oil filter is pretty stupid. Not a deal breaker, just could've been done better. No bed liner. Not much storage. To me the Pros greatly outweigh the Cons. Cons are just little nitpicky things you will find on any vehicle. Overall, I love the truck. Would definitely recommend.

10 Speed Transmission Issues Ford Ranger

Terry, 06/29/2023
2022 Ford Ranger XLT 4dr SuperCab 4WD SB (2.3L 4cyl Turbo 10A)

I purchased a new 2022 Ranger XLT extended cab. Ever since I purchased it the 10R80 10-speed transmission can't find it's gears. Engine revs up to 3000rpm from cold start caused with a delay in the transmission finding first gear; gear shifting is hard until you get to cruising speed. Engine vibrates shaking the truck between 10-30mph. Taken the vehicle to the dealer no less than 4 times; Twice they follow 2 TSB from Ford to reset the computer controlling the transmission. The result is same- no change- problems persist way after time for the computer to 'learn' the computer re-programing. I learned that Ford has had numerous complaints regarding this 10R80 transmission (the product of a partnership between Ford and & GM). No less than two class action lawsuits have been filed regarding this transmission against Ford, one filed in Federal court just this April. Ford appears to care little about fixing the problems by coming out with TSBs to its dealers that don't address the problem. It appears they only want to kick the can down the road, let the warranty end, and leave the buyer holding the bag. I've given up on Ford and will NEVER buy a Ford product again, and I will encourage anyone who asks me to consider at other manufacturers.
