MAHWAH, New Jersey — Land Rover today announced that it will unveil its new Discovery Vision concept vehicle at this month's 2014 New York Auto Show.

Land Rover says the new concept will "showcase the essence of a future family of SUVs built on Land Rover's key principles of emotive design, unrivaled capability and ultimate versatility."

Gerry McGovern, design director and chief creative officer for Land Rover says, "Discovery has been pivotal in helping to build the foundations of the Land Rover brand. It is admired all over the world and loved by its strong customer base. We have created the Vision Concept to share the essence of Land Rover's new age of Discovery and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow."

The Land Rover Discovery nameplate has not been sold in the U.S. since 2004.

The New York auto show is open to the public April 18-27.

Edmunds says: Now that the Range Rover segment of its lineup has been fully revamped, Land Rover is turning its attention to the midrange Discovery, a vehicle that desperately needs the help.
