poor quality and poor executive response to concer
I thought Volvo was synonymous with quality and customer service. It turns out that I was sadly mistaken. While helping someone practice for their license, the passenger side mirror hit another car’s mirror at very low speed. The other car’s mirror had not a scratch but, inside the Volvo mirror, a piece of hard plastic that helps anchor the mirror snapped. The mirror worked fine in every way other than it was loose on it’s mooring I approached my volvo dealer for a repair. Apparently fixing this seemingly small problem required replacing the entire mirror and was $1300. I went to a different dealer and they quoted $900 for the same work Shocked by the poor quality of the mirror and extortionate repair price, I wrote to Volvo executives and received a response from someone called Taj. At first, I was mollified that Taj offered a 30% rebate on the repair by submitting the receipt of the invoice. I did as instructed and did receive a cheque. Except, contrary to the 30% Taj had clearly stated in his message, it turns out the rebate was only for parts... so effectively 15%. I wrote to Taj again. At first, no response (did he realize his error and was hoping I would not follow up?). A couple of weeks later, I sent a reminder. Taj responded rather rudely that “we do not reimburse the rebate on our end “ So, to recap - Poorly engineered mirror where a rigid plastic part snaps easily at light contact - Very high repair costs for something seemingly minor - A misleading offer of 30% rebate as compensation which turned out to be closer to 15% - An unresponsive and somewhat rude executive office contact So, no, Volvo’s reputation for quality and customer service is hollow and, while we like the car, we do not recommend buying one
