Wow just a beauty Fjord color looks way better in person no doubts. I had a 2016 XC 60 and this XC40 B5 Bright AWD Plus is so awesome. Just a stunning car to look at like it was some Harley and a work of art. 19" Diamond cut wheels set it off. Tons of safety So happy and the look will last.

2022 Volvo XC40 T5 Inscription 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

All the features, luxury and tech we wanted. Not the greatest selection of exterior or interior colors, but the Denim Blue with Blond interior is quite acceptable! Leather seats are infinitely adjustable, and the most comfortable of all the many, many other comparable small SUV's we tried. The AWD T5 is sufficient for the wife. I'll no doubt add the Polestar tune at some point. Wish they offered the T6 or T8. UPDATE: Went looking for an S60 sedan. No Chicago area dealers had one even close to what we wanted. Fortunately, we found this XC40 that had just arrived. It's a T5 Inscription, in Denim Blue (so sick of all these black, gray and white cars on the road!), with the blond interior and AWD. Gorgeous! Hate the electronic shifter that replaced the mechanical shifter on our old XC60 (and my 2013 S60). Hate it. Loving the Apple CarPlay and wireless charging. The touchscreen is not well implemented, requiring navigating through endless hierarchal menus for just about anything. But the voice recognition and steering wheel controls compensate pretty well. Seating is the most comfortable of any we tried, including Audi, BMW and Acura. As for performance, meh. My 5 cylinder T5 has way more low end torque, and faster 0-60 times. Once the RPMs get up to around 2,000-2,500 though, acceleration picks up nicely. Came with both carpeted and rubber floor mats. Steep learning curve from the 2012 we had, but we've adapted well. Not mentioned in reviews is the ground clearance, which is excellent for a small SUV @ 8.9" a big consideration in Chicago, which routinely snows at least that much almost every winter.

REGRET trading "up" to 2024 XC40 Mild Hybrid

LA, 03/22/2024
2024 Volvo XC40 B5 Plus Bright 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo gas/electric mild hybrid 8A)

I traded in my 2020 XC T4 for a 2024 XC40 Mild Hybrid - and have learned to regret my decision. How I wish I still had my 2020 XC40!! It was by far a superior SUV. So many changes that Volvo made that are a big deal to the driver - Clock moved from driver display to the center display; the driver display has a map right in the middle and it's so small that it's useless; direction (N/S/E/W) removed from rear-view mirror; downgraded the luxurious seats to "leather-ette" and not as plush; must use premium gas and the gas door is a hassle to open - have to practically stand on your head to unlock; no print version of manual; center display - another map, no notifications of missed texts or phone calls, google assist is a joke, and Sirius is different - can still see the stations but no longer what's playing on each station - you have to actually look over and press the station 1-2 times to see what's playing; can no longer adjust the audio sound balance from left/right/front/back - it can only be front OR back - that's it; and Carplay - the only way to use it is by purchasing a separate cord to plug into the USB (not wireless - it's like going back 10 yrs!) and then your phone won't fit into the phone cradle; also on the center display is the google "how can I help" - which is useless; all the Google stuff is good for 3-4 years and then what?; front collision notification is not nearly as precise; no hooks over back seats for clothes; … just to name a few things!

Good on tech, bad on gas

2022 Volvo XC40 T5 Momentum 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

I really like the XC40 but gas mileage is subpar. I’m averaging about 13 mpg city and 23 mpg highway for a combined average of about 20 mpg on each tank of gas. The pros are the technology and features. The car is also comfortable to sit in and fun to drive.

A shadow of earlier editions of XC40

2024 Volvo XC40 B5 Ultimate Dark 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo gas/electric mild hybrid 8A)

I own a 2020 Volvo XC40 T4 R-Design that came fully loaded when I purchased it used with only 25K miles. It was a dealer’s lease vehicle so maintenance records were pristine. I have had a 2024 XC40 B5 Ultimate as a loaner from the dealer. I could not help but compare this vehicle with the 2020 edition. Pros for the 2024: The electric motor makes restart in Eco mode totally smooth and transparent to the driver. Control for auto start/stop to conserve fuel is no longer available. Cons • Google interface is inferior in many ways to Volvo’s Sensus. First, the text labels with the Google interface are small and more difficult to navigate as a driver. Second, the Google interface is more complicated with many more sub-menus to navigate. Third, the 12 inch display does not provide as much useful info at a glance as the Sensus system. Fourth, drive modes are down from 4+ on 2020 to 2 on the 2024. And last, most of the software bugs are ironed out in my 2020 model whereas the Google system will need more time for users to report bugs that will need to be squashed. • The “get-up-and-go” with the 2020 model has “gone” in the 2024 model. The throttle response of my 187HP 2020 is so much better than the more powerful 2024 that I could not image buying the newer model. • Braking the 2024 takes more pedal pressure than the 2020 model, and the contrast is noticeable immediately. Now I had to get used to the brakes on my 2020, and having different settings through the Sensus system software helped me adapt to the XC40. That option is gone on the 2024. • The ride in the 2024 B5 Ultimate was noisier and not as comfortable as my 2020. This was very surprising given that my is a FWD vehicle with the “sportier” suspension that comes with a R-Design. I admit that ride comfort and quietness was substantially improved on my 2020 R-Design by swapping out the OE Pirelli’s for Michelin CrossClimate2’s. That’s an highly recommended upgrade for ride comfort and stopping distance, especially in wet or snowy road conditions. One final comment regarding the 2024 B5 vs the 2020 T4. The B5 is a AWD vehicle that requires premium fuel and will probably “eat tire treads” more rapidly than the FWD vehicle. That’s been my experience with another AWD vehicle, and in our climate, we just do not need AWD. On demand 4WD is fine except for the increased costs associated with servicing the differential. The T4 will run on 87+ octane gas; Volvo recommends 89 octane or higher for best gas mileage and performance. With Volvo’s recommended fuel for my T4 and with tweaking the performance using Sensus to customize the drive mode, I consistently get 27 MPG around town and 33+ MPG on road trips. I have experienced gas mileage as high as 39 MPG on the highway with worn Pirelli tires, but the aggressive pattern of the Michelin CrossClimate2 tires has reduced highway mileage to 33-36 MPG depending upon weather conditions and speed. Personally, I love the 2020 XC40 that I drive. I chose it over the small luxury options from BMW, Mercedes, and Cadillac because it simply meets my needs with all the luxury touches and safety that one expects with Volvo.
