2004 Touareg - Heaven to Drive
I have had my Touareg for two years. I bought it slightly used. It is a V8 with most all the extras. This is the nicest most fun vehicle I have ever had. The ride, comfort and aesthetics are great. I love the radio especially with the Phatnoise system I added. The fuel economy is not great but in comparison with similarly powered vehicles it is on par with them. I initially had only some minor warranty covered issues but not major repair problems. It really drives like a dream. The Audi engine is very smooth and powerful.
Frequent Repairs
My SUV trinks! The dealership drives it more than I do. It is in the shop almost every month. I have had the front axle replaced, window shades replaced twice, cruise control, airbags repaired, air conditioner motor and fan replaced three times, all the keypads for controls on the dash have peeled off and on the door handle. The navigation is not touch screen, only dial. This is car definitely a LEMON!

Touareg Life
What a brilliant design concept. Positively wonderful engine. Execution, however, and reliability of outsourced components is quite questionable. The transmission (Japan) and its programs are horrid -- herky-jerky. The transfer case is noisy. The rest of the driveline is noisy. The stepper motors have failed, and my dealer refuses to recognize this. Cheap Conti tires are almost worn out. Radio has intermittent connection problems. This past winter, the marginal battery caused computer faults that disabled the differential locking. Outside (heated) mirrors do not demist. Brakes are now marginal, with grinding and scraping sounds at lower speeds. Worst car ever owned (of 18). Never again.
Wish I never bought
Problems with locking on rear hatch. I have it that it should be unlocked with other doors...sometime is, sometimes not. Back passanger do sticks. Auto button sets temp to 72, not where you have it set. Air always blows on windshield even if redirected...causes condensation at night, morning, and rainy days. Wheel skweek. Volkswagen cannot figure out alignment problem on vehicle.
Touareg tweety
We purchased this vehicle new as a luxury SUV. Problems have been of the annoying variety. An on again/off again warbling noise when the air is on which the dealer says they cannot fix. System monitoring sensors that are faulty and a moonroof which vibrates noisily at speeds of up to 45 mph. There is a marked pause on hard acceleration, even to the point of the car revving up but the trans not engaging.I could live with the level of annoyance if this had been an entry level vehicle, say a KIA maybe, unfortunately for me this was a 50,000 vehicle and I expected more than I received.
