After owning the Touareg for over a year

This was my favorite of all time vehicle to own...for about a month. Before purchasing be well informed and do much investigating. Visit both nhtsa.dot.gov and peruse the complaints. I would also suggest the Forums on this site: visit the VW Touareg: Problems & Solutions forum for more insight before investing in this vehicle. This model has some very serious problems some of which involve safety that are not being acknowledged.

The car is great but costumer servie at VW is poor. Not aprpite with the Laxury type car and my expectations. I had 3 BMW before and never had these type of isses I have purchased my new Toureg not even a 1 year ago and had multiple problems with it 1.) Hesitation in acceleration when transferring from R to D 2.) Remote control would not open the rear hatch door unless you are in the front of the car instead of in the back 3.) Stereo has a glitch and projects electrostatic discharge into the speakers at 45mph 4.) The gauges signal indicators, oil level, gas level, engine temperature do not work at very low temperatures below 32F

Overall I am pleased with the Touareg, although I still haven't figured out why VW have adopted the curious pronunciation of the name for the US market. Complaints: After less than 3000 miles the "step up" motor needed replacing (diff. problem) didn't they launch this car in Europe some time ago? Why are there still problems? 2nd key should set the driver's seat to the 2nd driver’s position, it doesn't. 7 months later one of the largest automakers is "working on it." Sure! The Homelink is impossible to program, same answer. The windshield mists up if the inside and outside temps are too disparate. Why on earth isn't the diesel going to be available in CA?

The first week I had the SUV the electronic instruments went out. It took VW a week to get the new computer in. Since then they had to replace the stepper motor to control the 4 wheel drive. The stepper motor had to be ordered and that took a week. All tires had to be replace because of alignment problems. Door handles had to be replaced. The horn had to be replaces. The rear window wipers did not work.

We purchased this vehicle new as a luxury SUV. Problems have been of the annoying variety. An on again/off again warbling noise when the air is on which the dealer says they cannot fix. System monitoring sensors that are faulty and a moonroof which vibrates noisily at speeds of up to 45 mph. There is a marked pause on hard acceleration, even to the point of the car revving up but the trans not engaging.I could live with the level of annoyance if this had been an entry level vehicle, say a KIA maybe, unfortunately for me this was a 50,000 vehicle and I expected more than I received.
