Used 2006 Volkswagen Jetta Value Edition 4dr Sedan (2.5L 5cyl 5M) Consumer Reviews
Great Car
I bought the car because my other three cars all got around 13 mpg. The Jetta was a great choice. It is safe, well built, and handles really well. I have owned it for about seven months and have had no problems so far. In mostly city driving I have averaged about 27 mpg and on highway around 35. I bought the car for $17,500 and it does not feel like a stripped model with its rich materials and high build quality. It has everything a person needs standard: power windows (w/express up on all four), an alarm, A/C, tilt/tellascoping wheel, and a huge trunk (I fit myself and three of my friends in there for fun!). As for the performance it is no Corvette but it has suprising power and torque. What a great car!
Great so far
Had the car for about a week now and no issues. I had a pebble stuck under the car and it made a weird noise for a few minutes, but now it's gone. The ride is smooth and excellent. I like the handling of the manual transmission. The interior is very nice and comfortable for passengers. The sound system is pretty good. Its got a whole lot of features you normally wouldn't get from a car at this price. Exterior window movement, heated side mirrors, diffuser climate control, rear vents, etc. Just a blast to drive, fun car but has a look of style.

Solid, fun, different.
I've had the Jetta for 3 years and am very satisfied. It's a good sized vehicle for me and the type of driving I do: trips around town, sometimes with people and things, and the occasional road trip. After 48K miles, I'm hard pressed to find any faults at all. It's reliable, fun & sensible, but not boring and bland like the Asian competition. The 5spd and 2.5 motor have plenty of torque to compete off the line if you are a skilled rower. The interior build quality is Teutonic solid, ergonomically correct for the driver. Pax might find it a bit "stiff" (mine have, but I don't care, because I'm having fun driving). Looking forward to at least 100K unless I upgrade to an Audi before then.
Comparable to Pre-2006 Passat
I bought a 2006 Jetta Value Edition 5M to replace a 1999 Passat 1.8T. So far, I think the Jetta is comparable to Pre-2006 Passats based on size, handling, safety and mileage. The fit and finish differ between the two models but I have to say the Jetta's interior is very nice. It has lots of storage space, no rattles, and no wind noise. I was concerned about the loss of Fahrvergnugen going from a Passat to a Jetta but I'm happy with the 5-cyl. engine. It has roughly the same horsepower as the Passat -- and it handles great, classic VW ride. The Jetta is also quieter and more comfortable than I thought it would be (I just did a 3 hour road trip). The stereo is good quality too. I love the Value Edition! It is very nice, I have no regrets.
Highly Recommended!
I've had my '06 Jetta Value Edition for just under a year so far. It has been a wonderful car. Its two visits to the shop have been only for oil changes. The car performs like nothing else in its class. It gets pretty good gas mileage. It's even smoother out on the highway than the Volvo that I traded in for it. I will definitely get another VW when this lease is up! You really can't go wrong with this car! VW really did it right this time.
