Used 1996 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan Consumer Reviews
My first car...
I bought my 96 Jetta GL in the beginning of January, used at 56k miles, in 2003 as my first car. I've had some trouble with it since I bought it 8 months ago, probably due to the previous owner's neglect, but I love it regardless. So far I've replaced all four tires, repaired an oil leak, re- glued side moldings, and replaced its brakes. The transmission isn't exactly top-of-the-line, but what more can you expect from a 4-cyl? Still, I love the car. The sunroof is great, and the trunk is roomy. Overall, I'm glad I picked it as my first car.

My Jetta has been extremely reliable. No mechanical problems other than normal wear items such as tires, muffler, and brakes. Great gas mileage. Fun to drive - very zippy.
Solid and Reliable Vee Dub
The '96 GL was my second Jetta after I traded up my old one, an '86, with 200K miles. I bought this one used (returned from lease) with around 40K miles on it. I love the German engineering and absolute solid feel of this car. This one has 100K miles on it and is as tight as the day I bought it. Although no frills, it's peppy, good in inclimate weather, gets around 34 highway MPG, and is very dependable. Other than routine maintenance (brakes, exhaust, battery etc) I've put no money into this vehicle. If you're looking for a no nonsense safe solid car that's also stylish and fun to drive try a Jetta. This has been the best car I've owned.
SWEET CAR!
I bought my Jetta with only 60k on it now has 170000! I Dirve my car VERY hard. and beat it. only thing that has really been a prob. is the fact that the trans has a cable shifter and after this many miles numb dosent exactly describe it.. other than that I love the car still just as fast as the day I bought it!

Since purchasing this car, I have had ZERO problems. I love VWs, my husband also has a VW in GREAT condition (1993 Corrado). Driving a VW is like a certain genre of music, some like it, some do not. If you do not, do your poor car a FAVOR, and SELL your VW to a GOOD home who will give your car the love and care it deserves! VW has consistently been on the forefront of technology, and practice their philosophy of continuous improvement. PS: I have also owned several new GM and Honda products. GM=Poor Quality, even with proper maintenance; also love HONDA--funnily enough, on my 1999 Honda Civic, the only part to break was a $100 a/c piece made by, GM.
