I have recently bought myself a 17 golf gti. I have had several cars in my past 68 Olds 442, 66 Chevy Impala, and a 77 Chevette to name my first 3 cars I owned (starting with the latter and going backwards) anywho I liked the chevette for its 4 speed (but very slow without it) the Impala was nice to look at plus convertible (forgot to mention) then the oldsmobile which was the power house. Combine all 3 of these vehicles and you have a nice sporty car with great gas mileage. When I first got it I was getting nearly 42mpg(with old tires) bought a new set of Michelin pilot sport AS plus which is much louder ride now and mileage dropped from 42 to 32mpg with premium fuel. Saving 60 plus cents on the gallon buying regular gasoline I was getting 34-35 mpg. At the car performs really well, handles corners like it's on a rail. I have been into it occasionally (seeing what she will do) and has been great. I don't know how the previous owner used it but I am using it as my everyday driven ride. I have the oil changed every 3000 miles, tented the windows for the ac doesn't cool down the interior very well on 90 plus days(now it does and kids even ask me to turn off the ac a time or two when I had it only on 2 notches and their vents closed off). Pros: performance and handling is great. Decent gas mileage if you keep the foot out of the gas. Cons: ac not able to keep the interior cool on really hot days. (Must tent windows if in a hot climate area). Update: I've had the car now 4 years (bought May 2020) only thing I have done to the car mechanically was upgraded the clutch and brakes, besides that it has now over 100k miles on the odometer. I see a lot of people talking about how the car is junk, after putting $3k-$4k and drive it like a race car and expect everything to never break. I've had the car twice around 3500-4000rpms. Most people say they have redlined their cars as if it's meant to do more often then not. I wouldn't never buy a used gti or r Volkswagen because of people's treatment towards these cars, unless you knew the owner very well. They are great cars or mine has been the 4 years since I owned it, it has been hit 3 different times (while parked, hit and runs) with very minimal damage.

I have wanted this car for a long time. My old ride finally died this year, so I got the 2017. This is a GREAT pick for anyone who wants a sporty hatchback.
