Used 2020 Toyota Tacoma Consumer Reviews
Quality Tacoma
The 2020 Tacoma drips of quality. The ride is solid and comfortable with adequate power to haul. I am impressed with the updated electronics that enable me to be a safer driver. I purchased the four wheeldrive which comes standard with the composite bed which is rust proof. Great valve for the money

TDR Sport review
I love everything about his truck minus one thing. The acceleration could be a little better. You really have to hammer the gas to get it going. Might be better if I had the standard transmission. Overall great truck. Infotainment is great. Seat position is great. I’m actually averaging about 23 miles a gallon but most of my driving is highway. Not a plush truck like some others but the reliability and style are worth it.

Great Overall Midsize Truck With Toyota's QDR
We purchased our truck at the end of October 2020 in Canada. A TRD Sport Double Cab 4X4 V6 long Box 6' Truck door sticker shows truck was made in Texas. We opted for the Super White color. Selection locally was very slim due to Toyota year end incentives and low inventory because of the pandemic. I had to have the 6' box for our family of 4. We really wanted the TRD Off Road in the 6' box but the 6' box Off-Road's are not produced for the Canadian market. Only 5' boxes. As well, we have a much more limited package selection in Canada. Toyota.com shows a way larger selection, wish we had the same. Our last vehicle was a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. We owned it for 14 years. Prior to that we had a brand new 1992 Toyota V6 4X4 Extra-Cab we also had for it 14 years. Driving the Truck has been an adjustment after driving a SUV for so long. Also all the TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) and more modern amenities became a bit of a learning curve too. I also didn't realize the engine uses full synthetic 0-W20 oil. So used to 5W-30 after all these years. The TRD Sport is a solid, very good looking, well built and a pleasure to drive truck. Both in the city and on highway. The sport was even more at home off road! We were impressed at how well the sport trim level did off road. Around town It is a truck and we expected that it won't be as nimble as our 2003 Pathfinder. Especially while trying to park a long box. OK, most controversial part of the truck IMHO. The auto transmission. Yes, the auto transmission is counter-intuitive and can be distracting while driving. The computer is always trying to get you the best gas mileage. Driving up an incline my mind is thinking the transmission should gear down one gear but instead up-shifts into a higher gear. The computer realizes it's starting to lag the V6 engine then downshifts while I give the engine more throttle. This gets amplified as the Atkinson Cycle V6 makes it's max torque (265 lb-ft) @ 4600 rpm which is high in the RPM range. Max HP is 278 hp @ 6000 rpm, high in the RPM range as well. This programming would be okay if it was a torque(y) diesel. I'm guessing to make EPA ratings, Toyota engineers did this Auto Trans/Engine programming on purpose. I wish they would have made this a selectable feature in the cab as a "ECO" mode button rather than default programming out of the box. The selectable ECT Mode = (Electronically Controlled Transmission) Toyota's version of Tow/Haul Mode, helps a bit. It noticeably holds your shift points a bit longer but decreases fuel economy if used all the time. There is also the option to select "S" mode. Here you can control the transmission to some degree like a manual transmission. I like this mode for long hilly drives. Especially through mountain passes. So at this point I have gotten used to the A/T and it's not all that bad, just a little hard to adjust to at first. The engine and transmission have been proven to be reliable long term which is comforting. Fuel economy is average in my opinion. I knew this going into this. I wanted a truck and knew it would not be all that great on fuel, even with the ECU programmed "ECO" transmission/engine. Our 2003 Pathfinder was not much better on fuel so we are used to this type of mileage. Until they make a Hybrid or all electric there is always going to be compromises fuel economy wise. We had the OEM tonneau cover installed as there is only room for our family in the cab. All gear for outings goes in the covered box. Cab is roomy up front for us adults with lots of bottle holders. Yes, room is tight in the back seats for the kids but common roominess wise for a mid-sized truck in this category. The truck interior uses lots of durable plastic with just a few soft touch areas. I liked this as it should prove to be very durable and easy to clean long term. The gauges, 8" Nav screen and HVAC controls are well laid out and simple. I love the auto trans and parking brake location. Steering wheel is a pleasure to hold and controls well laid out too. Front bucket seats are awesome and comfy. The power adjustable drivers seat was a must or I would not have purchased the truck. I'm 5'-11" and my wife is 5'-4" so we can adjust the seat for her to comfortably drive the truck. Thankfully Toyota finally included this in the SR5 and up trim levels for 2020. Overall fit and Finnish is typical Toyota quality. The entire family loves the new truck. They always want to go for "Truck Rides." We are very happy to be in a Toyota Truck again to help us pursue our outdoor hobbies. The truck has a bit of a cult following. However, I can understand this as we really enjoyed our first Toyota Truck for 14 years. I wanted that feeling of QDR (Quality, Durability & Reliability) once again. Also, amazing re-sale value! I did consider a new F-150. Liked the V6 Eco-boost engines but worried about reliability. Hope to own this truck for a long time too. May be an all electric in the next 14 years. ******So, just passed 2 years and 32,000 Km's and my wife and I still love this truck. I still stand by this review. It's my daily driver. Many 6 Hour summer drives to the cabin. As well as a few long road trips. Not one issue to date. Just oil changes every 8,000 Km's. I did replace the stock highway tires for a new set of one size up, Toyo Open Country AT'3 tires one year ago. Made it drive and look more like a truck with a 1 MPG hit.******

Solid as a rock
I just bought my Tacoma a few weeks ago. This is my fifth Tacoma and only second with automatic transmission. I almost went with the 6 speed manual but did not need or want a 4x4 or a TRD model. The automatic transmission seems flawless to me. I really don’t know what some of the gripes are about this automatic, I think it’s wonderful. I used to own a SR5 in manual but they no longer offer that trim with manual. The features on the 2020 are awesome too. I love the Apple CarPlay, the auto drivers seat, and the new dark gray wheels even come standard. I just added the blackout lettering and black 5” tube steps and I couldn’t be happier. I hope to have this truck for a long time.

Toyota is a great go-to, but...
Love the comfort of the truck! It's a great ride. I prefer the ride of the 5' bed to that of the 6' bed. I am disappointed though that at the mid-level trim, there are no automatic lights and that there are no back up sensors. Yet, they put in a feature like automatic high beams. I was surprised, in this time, that there were no lane departure signals either. I own 2 mid-level Subarus, an '18 and a '19 and they both have all those things. Overall, still am enjoying the truck.
