What more could you ask for?
This car has everything you could want from a sedan--reliability, unreal MPG, and low maintenance costs. It's definitely not the sexiest thing out there, but the money saved on fuel could be spent on YOU instead of some oil exec's salary. The seats are a bit on the proletariat side, and you'll defeinitely notice their stiffness on longer commutes if you're used to leather seats. Overall, I love this car, and would reccommend it to anyone.
Love the Prius!
I have owned this car since May 2002 and I absolutely love it. I'm so happy I got it before the big "prius craze" began. I paid $20K for it -- just about have to double that to get one these days. I'm in that mode where I'm ready for a new car, but am not willing to give up the perks of owning this car. My only regret is that I didn't get the GPS system - boy how I wish I had! I'll probably keep this car longer than any other -- my gas mileage varies between 37 and 47 mpg depending on the time of year.

I must like it I'm buying my third Prius
I've owned a 2001 which was in an accident, a 2002 and am now buying a 2004 Prius. The Prius is wonderful. I get 55+ MPG. My driving style suits the Prius. I drive mostly on trips of 20 minutes or more at 35-40 miles per hour with limited traffic stops. Freeway miles are less at 46mpg. I also get less milage in winter, 45-50. On the other hand my record is 64mpg on a tankful (confirmed at pump not just the computer screen which tends to be off by a consistant 2mpg). The Prius will not get the best milage during the first five minutes or so as it warms up, often only 35. Performance is good, comfort levels high.
Buying another Prius!
We do a lot of driving between towns in CT, and this has been a great car for that. We put about 20k miles/year on the car and have had zero problems. Our mileage has averaged between 42-50 mpg (more in summer, plus I have a tendency to speed). We're selling our '02 Prius, and have just bought an '05 Prius. We're loyal hybrid fans.
109,300 miles, 11 years - reliable, but not as long lasting as other Toyota cars
Have had this car since 2004 CPO buy -- early adopter on hybrid technology. Excellent reliability, with caveats. MPG ranged from 45 to 50 MPG in the first 4-5 years -- huge money saver for someone commuting in heavy Los Angeles traffic. Main hybrid battery replaced under warranty around 80K just under 10 year warranty; again replaced battery around 90K after replacement battery saw failed battery cell (replaced by Toyota out of warranty, no charge, for failure analysis @ factory). Currently getting 39 to 45 MPG -- but have had an unexplained failure to start. No other major repairs. Great car, but don't think will get it to the 250K+ you can get from other non-hybrid Toyotas.
