Hybrid and Driver Assist great; Nav awful

Quiet, comfortable and great mileage - all important boxes checked. Entune system on this model is terrible. No voice nav unless first sending SOS alert? Ridiculous! Updated Entune without success. Dealer says "We've seen this before..." but offers no solution but patience. Wrong answer for Toyota's top end Platinum Limited hybrid. UPDATE - researched on line and found Toyota Inc knew about an amplifier incompatiblility with the NAV system. Reported to dealer who verified and replace the amp. All worked fine immediately. 20,000 miles later, couldn't be happier with this car. Excellent value and performance. UPDATE: 45K at 4 years. Routine service, new tires. 26 - 28 MPG depending on driving. Excellent value.

Expected more from Toyota

From the day we drove it out of the dealer, it was apparent that the voice recognition was either of extremely low performance or inoperative. Turns out, after three runs to the dealer's service, that it was both. It is essentially unusable. Toyota ought to be ashamed for selling in 2020 a piece of technology that is little better than a 2001 Oldsmobile we owned. The other problem is that the vehicle doesn't start reliably! When the start button is pushed, we get a message stating, "hybrid system has stopped". It happens intermittently, but over the several times we have taken it to the dealer's service, they have not succeeded in duplicating the problem or seeing it on the error codes. We just had it occur again yesterday. And the dealer has been unresponsive to the problems.

Crosses off all the boxes

I don't know what more to ask for in a 3 row crossover SUV that doesn't wear a luxury badge. Fuel efficient, reliable, comfortable, stylish, awd traction, room for 8, all the standard creature comforts of modern cars like Bluetooth, power everything and then some. it doesn't attract attention nor does it offend anyone. i think this car will still look good in 15 years unlike others in its class that already look 20 years old still sitting in the dealer lot. and it'll run like its 5 months old still. there's complaints about the 3rd row space versus its competitors. in all honesty, if you were to use the 3rd row that often where it'd matter, maybe a minivan or full size expedition or suburban would be a better fit for you. just my opinion. overall, a great buy. i'll recommend a highlander all day long.

MPG is a farce

We’ve had the car for about a month and can’t seem to get better than 23.5 MPG, no matter what we do. Two different drivers, in or out of Eco Mode. Maybe we’re doing something wrong, but you buy a hybrid for the mileage savings and we’ve been really disappointed.

Absolutely nothing to complain about

Sensible, solid, versatile, reliable, comfortable, functional, smart. Not fancy or sexy. Just a darn good family car. I've had my 2019 Highlander Hybrid XLE for over 2 years now. I've had zero mechanical issues. I average 27.8 combined MPG. There is just nothing to complain about. Sometimes I wish I had gone with a pickup or fancier SUV, but then my sensible side kicks in and I remember I'm a father of 3 who has a long commute to work in a big city. Its great in traffic and on the interstate, and with this roof rack cross bars, ground clearance and AWD, its versatile enough to go off road and carry our kayak which my son loves. This is the perfect car IMO. I can't find anything wrong with it.
