Engine quit the same day of purchase

Frustrated owner, 09/10/2022
2022 Toyota Corolla Cross L 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

The vehicle began to vibrate on the way home on the first day. As I pulled over on the side of the road, a message appeared on the display that the engine had stopped, steering power was low, pull over to a safe location. I parked on the shoulder and the vehicle would not start again. The dealership has confirmed the engine needs to be replaced. I understand that, percentage-wise, there will be some issues in any vehicle line but I am incredibly frustrated to be dealing with this after waiting months for it to arrive.

In all my years of owning different vehicles from Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Honda, Mazda Subaru, and Volkswagen I have found Toyota Cross to be my number one in choice of all the cars I have owned. I ordered it in June and had to wait until the last of September for it to arrive but it was worth the wait! I have not found any thing that I don't like about this vehicle. It is tight and does not have any rattles or noises. The seats are comfortable and everything works the way it was supposed to work. The gas mileage is amazing [34 mpg] around city driving and 41 on a longer trip. I chose the silver color and the dealer applied the paint protection package and it surprises me that it stays clean as though it just came out of the show room. I added some after market products to add to my car [$50 for a cd player that works beautifully through my sound system, for instance] and they improve its looks considerably!

Love my baby rav!

Got this last month and I am over the moon for this vehicle. I had owned a Camry but wanted to downsize to something that would give good gas mileage and a few more modern gadgets. I bought the L because I am the only person in the world who doesn’t like the push starts. So mine has a key. This vehicle checks all the boxes for me except one. When on the highway, you will notice it’s a bit sluggish. The engine really works when you are getting the speed up. A bit disappointed by that. But it is beautiful to drive, it has a lot of space, the sound system on thd l model is wonderful, it’s just a well designed visionary vehicle that is made for people who don’t want the cost and intimidation of buying a rav….it also has the incredible Toyota name and I really believe this will be a game changer in the North American market with fuel prices on the rise. I hope they come up with a camping tent to make this extra cool for nerds like me:)

L Model - Base FWD

I had watched the Toyota press conference on the Cross and eagerly awaited it's release. I always have done the base model for past Toyota's as they have more than enough tech/performance/etc.. Super happy with the Cross. Handles amazing, good acceleration and great gas mileage. Great standard sound system, leg room is ample and prefect storage space in the back. This really is a great sized vehicle not too big but not small and the ground clearance is really high up. Really only 1 big CON so far is that on the L Model there is no rear window wiper. Seems odd to me that Toyota did not have this standard. Cannot say enough good things about this vehicle.

In a bind

We were driving to Florida when my beloved 2013 Highlander broke down. Fixing was going to take a day and a half away from our family trip. Inventory at all Toyota dealerships have been scarce for months now. We figured all costs and age of my car and decided to trade. The only small SUV on the lot was a Cross Hybrid. We bought it and boy do we have buyers remorse. Stupid idea of no spare tire, a repair kit in the trunk. The backseat is not spacious, cheated out of one back seat pocket, middle console can only hold a pair of glasses. Too many gadgets for a person over 60 to learn. When you change lanes it is quite difficult because there is a type of force that makes it scary in high speed traffic. Wireless charging pad is not compatible with every phone. I'm sorry to say that from our experience with Toyotas, this car is a hard pass.

Aside from the fact that this thing doesn't have enough power to get out of its own way I started having problems before the second month of ownership. Shaking in the front end, plastic pieces on outside of door come loose, pocket in front wheel well allows snow and debris to get in then the plastic rubs against the tires, plastic accordion in sunroof popped off track and got crunched up in sunroof, driver window was cracked open and was clearly making a noise of hitting metal however I was told there was a pebble inside my door, (how does that happen,) engine runs rough at idle, and it jerks into drive from a complete stop at times. I fully do not recommend this vehicle for anyone. Especially after having it looked at by a field tech and being told it is normal! Sadly because of this, I will never have another toyota! *Update@24 months. It is in the process of being bought back by toyota. Standing water in the back floorboards under the weathertech mats caused MOLD To grow on the upside of the carpet. When they took it apart it was found that the mold was significantly worse underneath and there was more standing water there.

2022 Toyota Corolla Cross XLE 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

I’ve had my Corolla Cross XLE AWD for almost 7 months. i love everything about this vehicle. I was looking for an SUV and this was my perfect match. it’s comfortable for long trips as i do a lot of traveling, it gets great MPG, and on the cheaper side for gas for an SUV. the only down falls i would say are it doesn’t come with a sunglasses holder so i have to keep them in the center console, the AC/HEAT power is not very strong, and the acceleration is pretty slow but for me it doesn’t bother me that much. the pros to the car is it’s very comfortable while driving long distance, you do get a lumbar support. a lot of reviews say the cabin is loud at high way speeds but i don’t think it’s very loud since my previous cars were sedans/low to the ground so the cross is a lot quieter for me. The ABS system is wonderful as it helped me in a situation of icy roads, apple car play/android auto is a very nice feature. it has blue LED interior lights that are in the cup holders and door handles and they get brighter when parked. The rear view mirror dims at night when headlights are shined behind you, i wish they made the side mirror dim but they did not for this car, but having that one mirror dim is definitely nice. auto high beams are a very nice feature and the headlights are VERY bright. overall, wonderful car, the cypress is a lot prettier in person. wonderful job Toyota. I had to update my review but i wanted to say the Lane Keep Assist is wonderful!! it’s one of the best ones i have seen. the vehicle does a wonderful job keeping the vehicle in lane and does a great job even on turns. if you have this feature on your cross, turn on your cruise control and use your lane assist and witness it for yourself. it blew me away!

I drive a 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross for work. I'm a Medical Courier and this vehicle really stands up to the high mileage. My personal vehicle is a 2002 Toyota RAV4 and I loved it. My daughter bought a 1018 RAV4 and as far as I'm concerned, that was the last good year for RAV4. We have a 2019 and 2021 RAV4 at work and they accelerate slowly and shift chunky. The Corolla Cross is more like the old RAV4's. I always thought I would buy a RAV again, but not anything after 2018. Now I would buy a Corolla Cross. I find it handles well and I hit the freeway on ramps at freeway speeds. It does just fine. I also have a leather steering wheel in my 2002 RAV. I missed that about the 2019 and newer RAVs. This 2022 Corolla Cross has a leather wrapped steering wheel. If I were to get a new car now, it would be a Corolla Cross.

Don't know what people are talking about love my cross has plenty of power for what it is I think people are expecting too much power for what they're buying the computer-simulated shifts are well-simulated compared to other cvt's out there good ride for what we are buying also I just don't know why people are being so hard on this compact CUV? I mean its a Corolla not a Highlander

Transitioned to crossover - love it

This is my first crossover vehicle - transitioning from a 2017 Subaru Impreza. I've driven the corolla cross LE with AWD for 5 months now and I really love it. The interior is very comforting and while I wouldn't call it luxurious, it's definitely nice and a big upgrade from my previous car. I opted in for a sunroof, and it is great. It's definitely a bit slow at accelerating but is fine once it hits your desired speed. It drives SO smoothly and has a lot of safety features which I like. Soundsystem is great! And pretty decent on gas for a larger car. Highly recommend if you are looking for a crossover vehicle.
