2007 Camry SE - I4 - Auto
Purchased my 2007 Camry SE, 4 cylinder, auto brand new in December 2006 to replace a car that was totalled in an accident. The Camry SE with the factory ground effects/spoiler/6-spoke alloys has a much better look than the other Camrys and that is the only reason I purchased it. Chose it over a slightly used 2005 Acura TSX-auto. The black cloth interior and special gauge lighting specific to the Camry SE also helped seal the deal. The Camry SE was comfortable, quiet, reliable, good on gas and as stated earlier, easy on the eyes.
Faulty Engine
At about 100k I noticed that the engine was starting to burn oil. I was having to add a quart then 2 quarts in between every oil change. I mentioned to the dealer who handled all my oil changes and was told that they could do some sort of tune up for a couple hundred bucks that should fix it. It didn’t work. At 137k the engine blew, threw a rod. It was at this time I learned that Toyota new about this faulty engine and did not do a recall. Instead they supposedly sent out a notice for a warranty enhancement option to cover the engine. Funny that the dealer never mentioned that to me. I ended up dropping 4k and put in a new 2.4 liter engine. Same sluggish performance and poor acceleration but maybe I can get another 130k out of this one. If the body and interior hold up which is a whole other story.

Reliable car
I bought this car brand new in 11/8/06 with 107 mile on the odo. Never did anything to the car except for oil change and tires. Replace brakes, spark plug at 100,00 mile and I replace the serpentine belt at 155000 mile. Now my Camry se have 175256 mile on the odo and still counting. i'm waiting to hit 200,000 mile then i will be replacing the water pump, do tune up, brakes all around + rotor, trans flush + filter and coolant flush. then go for another 200,000 miles lol
Poor take off
I like my 2007 Camary Toyota. But there are a few things I do not like about it. (1) it has a very slow take off. It could cause some accidents. Thinking you have enough time and room to pull out, when in fact you do not. I wait rather then take chances. (2) my check engine light came on twice. First is was when I filled up the gas tank and was told that I did not tighten the cap UNTIL it clicks. 2 weeks later it happened again and they had to replace something under the hood. (3) I do not get good radio stations. There is a lot of static. (4) no automatic rear view mirror. I drove a Toyota Avalon, before I guess I got spoiled. (5) I am disappointed with the gas mileage.
Engine is garbage
The rest of the car is good, but the engine is bad enough to make this car not worth it. Insult to injury is the way Toyota handled the situation. The engine burns oil. A lot of oil. Apparently there was a problem with the piston rings. They never issued a recall. If you got your oil changed at the dealer and complained enough, they would make the repair and put in new rings to fix the problem at no cost. If you change your oil yourself, or at a quick lube place, and didn't make a big stink, they did nothing. As I said before, no recall. I found this out too late, as they would only make the fix if the car was under 100,000 miles. I had only ever bought Toyotas. The Camry was the fourth. Other manufacturers had made great strides in their reliability, but I stuck with Toyota. So very disappointed.
