Used 1999 Toyota Camry Sedan Consumer Reviews
Great car for the money.
I bought this car used in October '04. 92000 miles on it. I paid $8250 for it and I think I got ripped off. I guess overall it's been a decent car, but don't listen to all those reviews about Toyota's reliability. Every car has its faults. Two days after I bought the car the check engine light came on; I took it to three mechanics, none could figure out the problem. After 10000 miles it's still on and off. I've had the starter go bad, the motor knocks like crazy at times, and I have various other electrical problems. The front struts make popping sounds, but they're factory and I've yet to change them. However I believe these faults are due to a previous owner's ignorance.
Good Car
This is a fine car for most everyday commuting and long distance travel. Have had no problems with it since we bought it new. Had a small problem at first with the speedometer lens developing a crazing. Gas mileage could be better in city driving. Handles very well in snow and ABS is great in icy conditions. Console layout is not the best and would prefer a column shift. Roomy though.
I will pass this on to relitives
I love my camry. it is a 99 Xle v6 and i bought it in sept. of 01 and i got a deal on it!.It only had 20000 miles and it it fully loaded with rare options on the camry like automatic climate control and dealer instaled jbl sound for only $ 14,500 and it is still worth more than i bought it fore now almost 1 year and 20,000 miles later.Nothing compares to the smooth power and luxurious ride of the camry...well maybe exept for the lexus es300.So if you are thinking about getting a camry go for it they are great cars but i have heard that the 4 cyl. is dissapointing
99 Camry Great Car
Great Car. Reliable. Could use some improvements on gas mileage. 26 highway, 20 city. Comfortable interior for tall person.
not a driver's car
If you like driving, as I do, this is not a car for you. No throttle response, no steering feel, terrible (soft) suspension. Makes me ask "Am I actually driving." I take corners at 40-50 mph, and still no thrill. This is a boring car. Only consider it if you absolutely hate driving or do not like cars at all. If you like driving, or think a car should be responsive and a little sporty, go for the Accord.
