Used 1999 Toyota Camry Sedan Consumer Reviews
This is Toyota, What more we need?
Bought this used car at 111K for $4.15K as my second car for wife's schooling. The previous driver is a student, never did the services correctly, I did the 90K service and timing belt change, etc. Changed 4 tires. Now still needs to get all the suspension system (approx $15K) replacement. In any event, Toyota is pretty smooth, quiet and reliable. It will never die on you if you take any sort of reasonable care. I trust Toyota, I trust my car.
Best used car I've ever owned.
Great commuter car. I owned the car for four years and really took it through the paces and it never gave me any problems at all. It's not a Porsche but it's dependable and the mileage is decent.
Don't buy a 1999 Camery
I bought a certified used 1999 Camery XLS 6 months ago. So far I've had to replace the brakes, fuel injectors, and a value spring. This car has been in the shop 6 times trying to get theses problems fix. After $1,800 in repairs I'm going to try and get rid of this car.
Disappointment
I was expecting Toyota quality, but what I got was a lemmon. The brakes vibrate violently when I stop quickly, and all four struts make a rattling noise (I was told this is a manufacturers defect). I have also had numerous other small problems as well. Knowing what I know now, I would not have purchased this car. It is smooth and quiet on the interstate though.
So So Sedan
I thought the Camary was going to be a good car having owned a Celica previously. The car is making clunking noises from the rear. Having taken it into the dealership for them to check it out they said there is NOTHING wrong with it and they heard nothing...hard to believe. It is starting to make a noise in the front left wheel now. I am looking into a Nissan Altima for my next purchase.
