This is my baby
This, in my opinion is one of the greatest all-purpose vehicles ever created. It is an absolutely fantastic, drama-free truck that rolls easily down the road, and is capable of crushing the deep mountain snows that fall in our area. I've got over 145k miles on mine, and she asks only for new brakes every couple of years, and a new battery every 4 or 5 years. The build quality is incredible. 16 years old and not one rip in the leather interior. Fuel mileage is kind of poor (avereage about 17 mpg), but incredibly low cost maintenance makes up for that and more.
1999 4Runner Limited 4WD
Great vehicle if you like the outdoor lifestyle. I love driving with all the windows and sunroof open. Feels like a Jeep but without the noise and rides much better. The V6 engine is weak once you start to load up the vehicle. Although it does have great off the line torque. The ride is truck-like but I am happy with it. The reliability and build quality is quite good. As long as you keep a good maintenance, this vehicle will practically run forever. Lots of aftermarket upgrades for the vehicle. I end up adding a TRD supercharger, URD fuel mods, Doug Thorley header, TRD exhaust, IPT valve body upgrade, 32" A/T tires, Bilstein shocks, and offroad armor. Overall, it is a very capable vehicle.

Great truck!
This is my second 4Runner, and again I'm not disappointed. Like my first (a 1997) it is a bit underpowered. Outside of that I have no complaints! I still get compliments even though it is 11 years old. The vehicle is fun to drive, handles great in all weather, and even 11 years old there is no squeaks, rattles, or wind noise. Michigan is known to use excessive salt, and yet the only rust on the vehicle is on the trailer hitch. Mine doesn't have many miles (69,000) as of this writing, but the ONLY things replaced so far since new have been one set of tires and a malfunctioning key fob. If you can find a low mileage 4Runner cheap, you won't be disappointed!
Grenade Proof
Bought my 99 4runner limited 4wd a couple months ago with 210k on the odometer. Will get over 300k with basic maintenance. Runs and drives better than my wifes 2015 CRV in my opinion. 4wd works great and wont allow you to get stuck anywhere. Love this BEAST!

Best all around
I have 240,0000 mi. On my 4runner. I replaced a few parts but saved money by doing my own repairs. Plenty of room inside for my gear and just enough power to tow my boat. Does well in the snow doesn't in the mud. Drive it hard and use it for commuting. Motor still runs smooth w/no oil leaks. I always loved the look of this generation.
