Amazing Car - Horrible Service
Lets get the service part over with first. We took possession 3 months ago a la the Covid 19 hands free protocols. What a joke. Our phones were linked and we were given the key cards and they waved goodbye. Had we not studiously watched the You Tube videos and had some practice on our sons Model 3, we would have been lost. There is a much to learn about this car before driving away but the Las Vegas Tesla dealership could care less. There were some slightly misaligned panels and the factory paint job was, well, not perfect. We brought the car back after about a week of ownership and boy are we sorry we did. They held the car for over a week, let the battery drain to near zero and when we got it back there were more mistakes than before including paint over spray over the entire vehicle including the glass, paint on the drivers seat and exterior paint drips everywhere. What a mess and to this day some issues are still unresolved. The shop at the Las Vegas dealership scares me. I'll live with what I've got. Now about the car. Smooth as silk. We recently purchased the enhanced auto pilot and supersonic Speed enhancement software upgrade. Outstanding stuff. The interior is quiet by my standards, the car handles great, the sound system is awesome the seats are comfortable and the AC works well in the desert heat. Model Y with Gemini wheels filled to about 40lbs. is not a harsh ride at all. Navigation is spot on. Room galore in the Trunk, Sub Trunks and frunk. Charging at home beats waiting on gas lines at Costco. Fast Fast Fast car. What can I say. The Model Y is great. 10/6/22 Update. Our Model Y is still great. No problems whatsoever. Been to South California from Vegas 6 times. One Supercharging stop each way. What a breeze. 4/7/23 Almost 3 years on the road. Needed 12volt battery replacement. The car notified us that it was starting to fail. Evidently Tesla knew too. Repair was done buy Tesla tech in my garage under warranty. I thought that was pretty cool. No other problems to report. The car is still a dream machine. Small conveniences come in through updates such as auto turn signal stop after lane change, car wash mode, Apple Music etc etc... Love this car but uniqueness factor is gone. Greater Las Vegas is a beehive of model Ys. 10/7/2024 Update: We tried out FSD when Tesla offered one free month and then we bought it. FSD works extremely well now not like what it was when we first bought the car. We use it often especially at night when my 70 year old eyes have difficulty with night vision. I intervene with it rarely for minor driving adjustments. 25,000 miles. Tires are still good. Had tires rotated and cabin air filters replaced by tech in my garage. No other service required. Now gets Apple Music and YouTube Music along with Spotify. The sound system is superb. Even F.M. comes in great. The original paint job was poor but at least it doesn't chip like the Japanese cars do. The wheel rims stick out from the tires and are prone to rashing. But I got some rubberized door trim on Ebay that fits perfectly around the edge of the wheels. Looks good and protects. The Model Y Dual Motor Long Range is awesome in so many ways and inexpensive to own.

A good commuter car but lots of issues
Own a long-range dual motor model Y in around a month. Decent volume of interior space. lots of power, good handling, tech rich and good sound system. Noisy ride, it shows true colors of the road on any drive modes. Tesla claims 316 miles range but I had to time it by 0.75 for real useful miles (for 75 miles ride the #s of reserved-miles on computer drops 100 miles for example). Bad assembly quality. Tesla service center fixed misaligned lift gate but left big uneven gaps in between tail lights and body untouched and said it “are within specifications”. Now I just wish assemble works on invisible areas are truly within specs.

Sudden Unintended Acceleration problem
Our brand new Model Y accelerated without prompting and drove itself into the back of our garage damaging the car and knocking the wall off of the garage foundation. The car has less than 450 miles on it. We had the car towed to the Tesla service center where it sat for 3 weeks until the Tesla unintended acceleration team evaluated it. Of course Tesla denies any problem with the car and will not release the event data recording. They did tell us we could recover the data ourselves if we bought a $2000 set up from Tesla. We also own a Tesla Model 3 and are very familiar with the Tesla platform so driving an electric car is not new to us. We have reported the problem to the National Traffic Safety Administration and hired a law firm to represent us in arbitration with Tesla. None of this would have been necessary if Tesla would just admit the car is flawed. We had no idea that this is a pervasive problem with all Tesla models and a quick online search will verify my point. Do not buy a Tesla until they can verify this problem has been resolved. We do not trust their brand after this horrible experience.

Love it
Not sure why people complain about the ride quality on the performance version. We love ours. It handles incredibly well and it loves to lay waste to gas guzzling cars. So fast. Never going back to a spewer. Electric cars are the future.

Incredible Car and Technology
Ordered a Black Model Y in October. Picked up in November. Whole process is easiest I have ever experienced. All done from my phone, order, trade, and loan. Pickup took about 20 minutes. Way better experience than a traditional dealership, sitting in an office for a long time being pressured on extended maintenance and protective coating lol. Car at pick was flawless. Sales associate offered to overview everyone but I said no, figuring it out is half the fine:). Car is easy to drive, yes takes a while to figure all the cool technology out but its fun (I am 57 so don’t say only young people want to do that) :). I was driving a BMW X5, Model Y blows this away in all aspects. The instantaneous torque is a blast. Very sporty suspension, quiet, a blast to drive. The technology is incredible. Autopilot is very impressive. Being able to turn on the climate/seats from anywhere is fantastic, I I’ve in Chicago. I turn on the climate in my office which is a decent walk to the parking lot, remote start would never work. Car corners on rails, very sporty suspension. Can make fart noises and target by seat, lol, my teen kids love it:). Has Netflix and Hulu built in so plenty to do if you stop for charge on the highway. One pedal driving is also nice, won’t need brakes for a long time. Not ever going to the gas stations!!! Charging at home is very easy and convenient, yes some costs to set this up. Model Y has more legroom in the back than my BMW X5 did and it hauls more, very good utility. Seats are way comfortable on my back. Ergonomics are incredible, best I have very seen, controls on wheel well thought out and simple. View from driver’s seat is So wide open and spacious. The ALL glass roof is incredible, only Tesla to have this. Design inside is space age like being in a Star Trek shuttle craft lol. Sleek and simple, you will never want to go back to cluttered design again. Overall, very happy with this car, its just incredible. If you drive one you will buy it.
