Eighty Six Years Old and a Tesla Model 3
I have driven and owned many vehicles over the last 70 years. These include a number of sports cars and pickup trucks. Now at 86 years, my wife and I own and drive a Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD. It is by far the most enjoyable vehicle that I have ever owned or driven. At our age, gas stations are not the favorite places to visit. Now we plug in every evening, charge the battery at the cheapest rate between 12:00 am and 5:00 am, and are ready to go the next morning. The process of purchasing a new 2021 Model 3 from Tesla was extremely simple and stress-free, and unlike any other vehicle that I have ever purchased. The car was delivered in perfect condition six weeks after it was ordered. All panel fits were tight. The multicoat red paint was perfect. The interior as well as the rear and front trunks were extremely well done with no misfits in the upholstery. Road noise, a major complaint for this model, is not severe and is at an acceptable level. Road noise is not any worse than other cars that I have driven. The lack of engine noise makes road noise more noticeable This is one thing that could be improved for more enjoyable highway driving. It took me about a day to get used to single-pedal driving and using the central touch screen. We have had the Tesla for 19 months and by my calculations, the 82-kWh Lithium-Ion battery has degraded in those 19 months by about 2%. The maximum battery capacity is now approximately 80-kWh for a maximum range of 346 miles as opposed to the Tesla specified maximum new car range of 353 miles. The Tesla 2021 Model 3 AWD is a great car and periodic upgrades to software continue to improve driving pleasure and safety. To date, the Model 3 has been absolutely maintenance-free. We could not be more pleased with our decision to buy a Tesla Model 3.

More of a novelty than practical
Purchased a 21 model 3 performance, the car was super fast 0-60 - that’s where the pros end. We live in a remote area with service centers being 100-150 miles away, and that’s not a warm fuzzy. Thankfully after 7,000 miles we didn’t have any problems with the car and moved it on down the road. Although we didn’t have any problems the car seemed very fragile. You need special tools, Jack pads, to perform tire rotation. Cameras do not perform well on dark nights, giving camera inoperative readings. My car gave ghost reports when using cruise and would brake for no reason. After you learn the quirks, the car is a good commuter, trips you’ll just have to live with range anxiety. The performance with low profile tires rides really rough, I can’t compare to the long range or standard range. Had to select long range on the drop down because performance was not available.

Best Value Fun & Fast
With all the cars I have enjoyed including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW the Tesla Performance 3 truly is stunning and fun to drive. The enjoyment with having the ability from your phone to warm up the interior on a cold morning is truly an event to savor. Having the ability to sit in the car and watch a movie while your significant other is in the market is a treat. The interior design is with phone chargers without plugs and audible voice command to get directions or turn on the windshield wipers is a joy to behold. No need to worry stopping at a gas station and getting grease on your shoes and gas fumes in your eyes when pumping fuel. The remarkable home charging in the comfort of your house is so easy to plug in so no worries about range. The handling, driving dynamics and speed with immediate acceleration improves your ability to avoid an accident. The trunk is so big that I do mot have to be concerned about grocery shopping with all the room to accommodate many shopping bags, gifts and suitcases. The trunk can accept more items than my Rolls Royce Phantom. The buying experience was a pleasure. Bought the car new exactly the way the buying experience should be. Tesla delivered the car to my home without me being there. No dealership waste of a day with high pressure to buy whatever the dealer could persuade you to purchase extras that jacked up the price. Tesla was smart selling direct. On line no muss, no wasted time with high pressure sales. Like the fixed price the same as buying a shirt on line with free delivery. Clearly Elon Musk deserves a high five for working so hard in building a successful company in America. He is a true hero.
Not for mainstream yet..
My partner has wanted this car for years…for me it was “meh, not so much”… fast forward with the stronger incentive to lower greenhouse gases it was time for me to endorse his want car. I have an X5 and will be trading in soon for a plug in or excellent hybrid, and not another Tesla. We test drove the Model Y and the Model 3. For me, and my “influence”, the Model Y was one of the worst experiences I’ve had test driving a car on the freeways of California. The visibility with the rear view mirror and side mirrors is horrible. I will offend a few with this comment, but not only is the ride quality worse with the Model Y it bobs up and down. The Model Y is a “jacked up” Model 3, plain and simple. Does anyone think this an engineered SUV? It’s not. Back to the Model 3, as it is the better of the two…. It drives like it’s on a rail! Definitely the fastest car I’ve ever driven. The seats are soft and comfortable, but I suspect this to camouflage the terrible ride quality over rough roads. And no, not all cars ride poorly over rough roads. Also, the road noise from a car that’s supposed to be silent, as someone else has posted is just unacceptable. Elon if you want to continue to own the electric space, you are going to have to address this! We installed the insulation kit, and we couldn’t tell the difference. We shouldn’t have to do this out the gate with a new car! And then there’s the tech….OK, I’m not 30 anymore, but geez, some it is impossible to see, the font is so small…with sunglasses, forget about it. And then there’s the touch screen. How can you take your eyes off the road while your finger is being positioned to land a bullseye spot on the screen while the car is jumping all over the road? And the glovebox…REALLY?! No lane change light on the mirrors, small mirrors to boot. Blind spots galore. Virtual lane screen does not allow enough space to see a car moving up quick left or right. Interior: Too bland, doesn’t suggest luxury at all. So back to the good. The sound system is simply the best. So, my partner says he “loves it”…he doesn’t know how much I dislike it….
