I've had my 3.6R for just over a year now and have about 15000 miles on it. I've been on long drives over the Sierras down to Mammoth 2x and drove in some nasty conditions this winter (did you see the record snowfall this year in Northern CA?). I've owned a Grand Cherokee Limited and also have an MDX. The Subaru dominates in terms of traction, confidence, and obviously in mpg (even with the 3.6R). I had a 2002 2.5L in the past and the upgrades Subaru has made over that model is noticeable. The 3.6R is not lacking in power. The HK stereo system is solid and bluetooth streaming my spotify app never fails. I've used the XDrive in the summer offroad and it just grips into the dirt/scree. Love the folding crossbars and ease of access to ski racks, cargo box, and bike rack. The only complaint I have is the gas pedal is a little sensitive coming out of first. Also, while you can deactivate, the various eyesight warning systems are a little annoying for this experienced driver. I've had the system brake on me a couple times while parking at about 5mph going into the rising sun...must be a glare or something. With that said, the eyesight works....possibly too well to a fault. Bottom line, I needed a utility vehicle with power, storage, comfort, and the ability to get me through chain controls and big pow days. The Outback hits all the marks.

The V-6 version rides like a different car than the V-4. The gas mileage is less, of course, but imo it makes up forthis by these other factors. The ride, noise levels, and acceleration are all superior to the V-4.

Other than Subaru uses recycle vote batteries on new vehicles had to be jump started, twice under 500 miles once new battery was installed no problem! Developed an annoying rattle in dash that has gotten worst.Dealer tried to elimate rattle & made new rattles!

This is a very sound and sensible car not exciting and sexy but safe and reliable. I'd highly recommend it.
