First and last Subaru for me
I bought this car because of the reputation for reliability. Wrong. Alternator failed at 60k miles. Multiple battery replacements. Brakes way too soon. Engine bearing failure at 90k miles. This car was driven on the highway, and was maintained better than required by Subaru. Be wise and drive something else.
Five in a row!
This is my 5th Subaru. I am completely sold on the car. I have never had any major problems with any of the Subarus I have owned. This is absolutely the best car for the money on the market today. It can be used in the city, on the road or on the farm...all of which I do. It's performance and smoothness of it's ride is far superior to my husband's new vehicle. My next car will be a Subaru also.

Brakes
I do like my 2002 Outback Wagon. BUT there seems to be problems with the brakes on the Outbacks. I drive a 5- speed standard, mostly interstate driving of 100 miles at a time. I had new brakes at 14,000 miles and another set of brakes at 25,000 miles. There also seems to be problems with needing to replace the head gasket at anywhere between 40,000 and 60,000 miles. This is unheard of in vehicles as this problem doesn't unually occur until 100,000 miles. I'd be interested to hear if other folks are seeing and having these problems.
Short time in new Legacy Outback ltd
I have switched from a Mercedes Benz ML320 to this Subaru Legacy Outback Limited. Other than being smaller, the ride is better, handling a little more precise, quieter, and somewhat better economy. I've only got 1400 miles on it to date but I drive 20,000 per year and I think this auto will be a winner.
Wonderful car!
We live in Colorado so this Subaru really gets tested during the winter and long trips up to the mountains. For the 3 years we have had it it has had zero problems with the vehicle and the 4 cylinder boxer engine runs fantastic.
