2021 Crosstrek Limited, a really nice car
Originally, I was going to get the Premium model. I drove it and liked the cloth seats and the 2.0 engine seemed adequate for my needs. While I waited for the car to arrive from the port, I started looking at the other models online. The Limited model provided so many more features for relatively little more money, that I just had to switch. I now have the 2.5 engine that has quite a bit of power, plus I'm averaging 32.9 MPG combined. I have the 8" touch screen, leather seats and nicer looking 18" wheels, instead of 17". Some people complain about the transmission, but I actually like the CVT transmission. I find it pretty smooth. I chose the grey interior, so that it would lighten up the inside and I'm glad I did. I love the Eyesight and how it can keep the car in the lanes and the cruise control paces very accurately and will even apply the brakes if someone cuts in front of you. All things said, I feel safe in this car and I really like the quality of the car. I had a Forester 10 years ago, but didn't like it, cause it felt too big. This car is small on the outside, but has a lot of room inside. Its really a great size. Now it's been 3 years and 50,000 miles later. I've had an ongoing problem with the radio. Periodically, when I start the car, the radio has no volume on AM or FM even though its set for #12 volume. If I turn it to Sirius, then there is sound. This is random and may happen once every 2 months or sometimes twice in the same month. It seems to occur more in cold weather. The sound may restart itself in 2 minutes or 10 minutes or never. I can always restart it by turning off the radio & resetting it or turning off & restarting the car. The dealer has replaced the radio twice, but this doesn't change the problem. The last radio had a failure the next morning and I drove right to the dealer and left the car running for 2 hours till they opened so I could show them. They scheduled service and had the car for 2 weeks trying to start the car & see the failure, but of course, it didn't happen. The Factory has no solution & right now the dealer wants a factory tech to come & check it. Other than the radio, I've had no other problems. I still have the original tires, but replaced the rear brakes. I also changed the air filters, cabin & engine several times. I'm averaging 32 MPG in the "I" mode, but do 3/4 miles on the highway and usually do 60 MPH in the right lane to work & 65 MPH home. I no longer like the leather seats as they're too firm without enough padding and are uncomfortable on anything more than a 1 hour trip. I think I would like a bigger rear trunk area also. I usually don't drive in the winter till the roads are plowed, so I really haven't had any issue with traction. On another note: While I had a loaner for 2 weeks, the dealer let me use a Forester Wilderness model. The car is pretty identical inside to mine & has the same engine, but it had softex seats and they were better. I drove it the same way as always, but the all-terrain tires took 4 MPG from what I get in my car, so I only got 28 MPG. I really like the way these tires ride and grip, but I don't like the loss of MPG. The factory had the tires inflated to 40 PSI, if I lowered it to 33 PSI as recommended, it would probably lose another 1 MPG.

2021 Crosstrek
We purchased a loaded limited model and absolutely love it. The new 182hp engine vs other vehicles in its class has a lot of get up and go. The safety features and quality are top notch. It also gets great gas mileage around 29mpg combined. We have now owned for a year with 18,000 miles. Still enjoy driving and have had no issues

4 stars solid - Base CVT
I like honest reviews that help normal people. I just got a 2021 Crosstrek and plan to keep it for 9 or more years. I will have plenty to say. After my first 100 miles, I LOVE it. It is lacking in power a little, but I don't have any negatives yet. 8.7" of clearance. One of the best AWD systems out there. The CVT is FAR better than my last one in a Corolla. Mines a 2.0 152 HP. Safety features are amazing. Ride is great. I will re-do this review when I get some miles on it. Update: After 18 months from purchase and 6400 miles driven. 1/2 of miles were long 300 mile trips (12 so far) 3600 miles...and 1/2 were around town going 15-35. It rides like a sedan, but can handle 6 inches of snow without issue. Even in 4-6" of snow going 70 on the freeway (not recommended but there were no other cars around) It has a really good "feel" No slippage (or so little I didn't notice) The AWD system makes it feel like no other car I've driven. It feels solid. It's still early in my ownership. I'm accustomed to Toyota. As a company, Subaru is WAY smaller than some others....and you can tell. (although Toyota is slowly buying Subaru, and even share some parts in 2021+ models) It seems to be well made, although my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is a BASE model with CVT. The switches and buttons for heat and cool seem and look like they haven't changed since the 1990s. I don't mind this and actually wanted a simple system. Works great. Looks fine. I knew all this before buying except about the color LCD on the upper screen. Missed that one. I also was told by the dealer I could turn off the auto start / stop system. It's terrible! Every stop sign your car quits only to immediatelly start. Turns out you can disable that, but it resets every time you turn the car off, so it's become habit to push a button quickly right after starting. That disables the auto start / stop feature. It's a gimmick to get better gas mileage numbers from the NTSB or EPA some other bothersome government BS.. I even have a real "KEY" Not a fob. That's rare in 2021 cars for sure. It's no bother. exactly what I've done since I learned to drive in the early 80s. One more thing about interior storage. There is not even nearly enough. The cavity below radio and buttons for climate is WAY to small. then you have center cupholders and ones in the door. But you do have a lot of room in back, just not the seats. Passengers don't even have cupholders in back. Not good for some. Lot's of room in the back. I've hauled bikes, boards, and all kinds of stuff. No problem. Seats fold down and a smaller person could sleep in it easily. I'm 6'2" and could sleep in it, but it might not be the most comfortable. One reason I wish I had looked at the step above the Base to the Premium closer....I still would have gone with the Base. It's what I wanted. The Premium package comes with a few things I would use. #1 being a color LCD for the screen in the upper-middle. I have the base 6.5" color touch screen. The BASE comes with a B&W upper screen with less options. In upper trims (All other trims I believe) it's a color screen with a few more options for personalizing. #2 is heated seats. These are a couple of other things the Premium had that I really don't care about, but you might. Do some research before buying. Don't trust sales people. I still give the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Base 4 stars. It's a #1 for value. I got mine in 2020 before the major upheaval in the car market. Glad I missed that, and now my Crosstrek is worth $5000 more than I paid. I hope great resale values follow the Crosstrek. I have had great value from the 4 Toyotas I've purchased. I hope Subaru is even close to the unbelievable resale I got for my Tacomas and even a Corolla. I have had no issues, just good times so far in the Crosstrek. I recommend it highly after 18 months. Lets see what happens after 4-5 years. Almost nobody has anything bad to say about the Crosstrek except it's underpowered. I drove a 2.5L in a Crosstrek as 2021 was the 1st year you could get a 2.5L vs 2.0L. (For almost $4000) I saw no upside in getting the larger engine for one person and rising gas prices and inflation. I've never had problem with too little power. I will continue to let you know my experiences with the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Base. Basically the same info as any other trim, just remember they have heated seats, and some other useful and more useless stuff vs BASE models. June 2 2022 - 6500 miles I am a lifetime Toyota owner. My only new cars purchased have been 2 Tacomas and 1 Corolla. Now I add Subaru to that list. I’ve got 6500 miles on my ‘21 Crosstrek Base. I can’t complain about much. I was aware of most of the downsides when I got it. The build quality (if you’re a perfectionist) is not quite up to Toyota or Honda standards but it’s still good. I’ve had no issues with any major system. There have been times when my phone wouldn’t pair with CarPlay or Bluetooth. I went to the dealer once and they said it’s common and disconnected the + terminal on the battery and grounded it saying that resets something. That was a year ago and it hasn’t happened again. I’ve also had the eyesight be disabled in heavy snow and sleet. Only two times…it comes back on as soon as the cameras can see out of the glass. Not a big deal. I’m a perfectionist and have noted a few places where the design and build could be better. That said, it’s still good. I never thought that when I owned my Toyota vehicles. I have taken it off-road a few times and as long as you don’t push it , you’ll be fine in most spots. I can’t compare the off road capabilities with a Tacoma, it’s not fair. The Subaru 4WD system seems great. (Until you have to buy tires) Has a very “solid”or “ground hugging” feel. Handles well in ice and snow. I’ve been caught in 3-4 storms that being in a car without 4WD would have been hard. The Crosstrek handles it like a pro! Sound system IS one place where I can complain. It works, but is terrible. Most people won’t care but I’m a musician and audio nut. Need to upgrade sound if that’s something you need. I also only have one USB to charge and use phone with CarPlay. It should have 2 or more. I am always alone so it hasn’t been an issue. One step up in trim gives you 2 USB and another sound connection. November 15 2022 update. The ‘21 Crosstrek Base CVT has been excellent so far. I will keep my review going as long as they let me. I only have 8160 miles on the vehicle. It’s not burning oil or leaking. I have had no problems at all. The ‘21 Crosstrek is a pleasure to drive. Next update in a few thousand miles. 3/1/2023 - 2021 Crosstrek Base 9550 miles. I still don’t have much bad to say. Build quality of the interior is not as good as Toyota. The interior of my 2015 Corolla was nicer. Apple CarPlay works and that makes things better (until wireless CarPlay is widely adopted) The interior and exterior of the car is not as good as Toyota. It’s noticeable after decades of driving Toyota. Subaru is trying to compete with giants and they offer one if the best values in the industry. Good features inside like the in house AWD built from scratch instead of adapting 2WD to 4WD as its competitors have done. Major competitors simply offer front wheel drive and charge extra for 4WD at a steep price. Subaru base Crosstrek came with Subaru’s award winning AWD and amazing capabilities with Eyesight. Auto cruise. The car can get through stop and go never touching gas or brakes. 3/1/25 17060 mi

Love the car, had some issues early on
I love my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport. The car is comfortable and fun to drive. I just returned from a trip to Colorado from Mississippi where I got an average of 34 mpg for the whole trip, with 38 mpg on the flat parts from Mississippi to New Mexico. Down side was that in Colorado with less than 6000 miles it started making a chirping noise when accelerating. Took it to a dealer in Colorado and found out the drive shaft was bad and had to be replaced. Up side was that the dealer was fantastic. Fit the car in for diagnosis immediately, went out of their way to find the parts before I had to leave to return home, and gave me an identical car with less miles on if for a loaner. While I was disappointed with the drive shaft failure, the fantastic customer service from a dealer that I didn't even buy the car from more than made up for it. Assuming no more early mechanical failures, I am a Subaru convert. The extent to which dealer customer service can affect how you feel about a car is amazing. Subaru nailed it with their customer service for me. Shout out to Flatirons Subaru in Boulder, Colorado.

Traded an HR-V for a Crosstrek
The Crosstrek is a better built SUV than the HR-V. Feels solid, quieter and handles 100% better. Awesome AWD best in the market. Best of all Made in Japan, Vin# begins with the letter J. After 6 weeks of owning the 2021 Crosstrek I regret not buying it earlier.

Transmission Failed
Owned my new Crosstrek 2.5 Sport Model for 2100 miles and transmission has failed. Car started lurching and you could feel CVT chain not engaging properly. Problems start to happen after driving for an hour or more once transmission warms up. Subaru dealer has no ordered new transmission. This is a big fail as Subaru has knowingly sold these vehicles with faulty transmissions that carried over from Ascent and Forrester and Outback. Otherwise no other issues, but my confidence in the brand as a first time owner is shaken.

Excellent Value & Best AWD System
We've had our 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport for a week now. What a great little crossover! Comfortable, spunky, very capable off-road, tons of cargo space with the back seats folded down, great tech, and compelling styling combine to make a tremendous value. I got $2,800 off the sticker price and 1.9% APR financing. No brainer purchase. My wife loves it and it will be her daily driver. Looking forward to taking it on road trips. If you are looking for a small crossover with solid road manners and the ability to handle some light to moderate off-road work, then be sure to add this one to your test-drive list.

Rating based on an accident experienced
My car was parked on the street between a 2021 Ram Cargo van (a really large commercial vehicle), and a small Toyota Matrix. In the midst of a police pursuit (I live in Los Angeles), a police car crashed into the van in front of me, destroying it completely and breaking its two front tires, causing it to crash *onto* my car, which made my car crash into the Toyota behind me. LET ME TELL YOU, for the severity of the accident, my car, while it sustained front and back end damage, could have been ***so much worse. *** Any other car of its size would have ended up like an accordion, but even the coffee in my cup holder didn’t spill which amazes me. I am posting this review as a testament to the fantastic framrwork of Subaru, specifically my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek.

Amazing value
In contrast to other reviews we have the base convenience model with eyesight. The smaller engine provided more than enough power for every day driving. This vehicle impresses for the price offering a unique look, a stellar AWD system and excellent quality. Depending on how it holds out long term wouldn’t be surprised if we remain loyal to Subaru.
Traded an Impreza sport(2017) for the 2021 limited
My Impreza sport was a good reliable comfortable car. My new limited looks like the start of a love affair. Still great workmanship, but new power and features are a real step up, I enjoy more than my wife’s outback premium, with the same engine.

I was going to buy it but ….
I am in search of a new car since last year I got rear ended and my beloved 2005 Subaru Impreza ( with the 2.5L engine) which was awesome and very reliable got destroyed so it’s a time to look for a new one …well I find out that since 2021 Subaru started to install the 2.5L engine on the two model of the Crosstreck Sport and Limited so I wanted to test drive one so I went couple of dealer and did test drove both model….Cool car overall, not impressed on engine power change you have to floored the gas pedal to get some decent acceleration, plastic feel with the fake leather…interior it’s ok but cheap materials. Now the interesting part……during the test drive the Automatic engine shutoff when the engine going to restart makes a clonking nice…but it doesn’t when you use the push to start button..weird…then during the maneuver to park the car shifting from a D to R and viceversa the shift lever It’s kind of jammed and hard to make it disengage for one position to another one. Very very strange. Note: the two models that I tested where brand new and I tested from two different dealer with the same exact issues….after all I decided to back off from getting one …

Value for what it is!!!
Just bought a 2021 Subaru crosstrek limited with the new 2.5 engine , of course cvt transmission , Most cars now are cvt transmission. Feels safe and performed well , living in Chicago AWD is a must., easy to drive got more power now a bump of 30 hp you can feel it , no slouch here , fun car , made in Japan fit and finish are tighter it’s like Japanese made quality car tolerances are more accurate, test drive it with AWD handling all four wheels always on.resale on this cars are very good too.

New to Subaru
I just purchased a Crosstrek Sport 2 weeks ago and I wish I had done it sooner. This is my first Subaru. I've had several cars, trying to figure out what will best fill my needs. Honda, Toyota, Ford, Jeep, ETC... (You name it, I've owned it.) My main issue is that there is no one vehicle that does "everything". So after trying almost everything, I listed what I wanted MOST from a vehicle. I needed AWD. (I live in the NW) I needed good mileage. I wanted common comfort features.(Not luxury) I didn't want anything too large. The 2021 Crosstrek Sport fits my needs perfectly. Nice size, plenty of power, nice features, and decent fuel mileage. Read so negatives about it's handling and have not found that to be the case in real life. Have traded in a more upright vehicle and small commuter car, the Subaru is the perfect bled of both. No, it's not a sports car but it does corner/ handle great in daily driving. Features are easy to use and ones I really do use. Heated seats, linked garage door opener, starts from the phone, Apple play are all used daily and appreciated. I'll be totally honest. Almost purchased the Outback. It was very comfortable too, just too much car for me and I didn't need the extra size. Like I stated earlier. I test drove and owned a lot of vehicles and (finger-crossed) I'm hoping my search is done and that I have many years of happy miles with my new Subaru.

Little Big Man
We purchased a 2021 Limited and we find it to be excellently built with higher grade materials in the interior especially the seats and dash. It's quiet for a small SUV. The larger 2.5 engine makes a big difference in drivability compared to the meek 2.0. The Limited weighs 3600. The standard Legacy and Outback with the 2.5 weigh 3900 and 4100 respectively. The handling is not as sharp as the Mazda competitor, but when I installed the STI flexible strut bar...it made the Crosstrek handle serine on the curves with less inherent body roll due to it's 8.5 inch clearance. I did not drive the turbo Mazda though, it is a very good car with less room and outward visibility. So, get the strut brace and it makes the car handle much better and its ride is surprisingly controlled and compliant. The Limited Crosstrek has all the high performing eyesight safety technology like its larger sisters and brothers. Plenty of rear seat room and front seats are very comfortable. The seats are designed for smaller drivers, so try it on first. The outward visibility is first rate. I changed out the sock Falkens and mounted Continental LX25s because of the frequent weather changes where we live. The Conti tires improved the ride, handling on curves also, plus the tire noise is less. Tires are so important to the handling, ride and performance to a car. You don't put low rate running shoes on your feet and go for a long run!? Your feet will bark! This is a great value if your looking for a small SUV. Currently, the Crosstrek's reliability is the highest in the entire Subaru group and when compared to others it's very good except the Mazda has a little better rated reliability score. So, check the proximity of your dealers. Subaru is near us and Mazda happened to be twice as far away from us living close to nothing and not much else. Get the larger engine in the sport or better yet, the Limited model with the noise reduction front windshield. We are getting 35 mpg on the hwy. We live in eastern Oregon and drive many canyons in 4 season weather. It is the right car for this kind of country and us. Enjoy! Update.....10/20/21 We completed the first oil change on our Crosstrek Limited 2.5L at 6 months and 5600 miles. The dealership technician overfilled the engine with 4.7 quarts of synthetic oil. They thought it was a 2.0 liter engine and it requires 4.7 quarts with filter and fill. However, the 2.5L takes 4.4 quarts of oil with filter and fill. They missed the fact that Subaru put the 2.5L in the sport and limited modes. No one in the service department got the memo from Subaru and management! Not good! They drove to my home 70 miles to correct the overfill. Nowhere in the Crosstrek's engine bay is an identification of what size engine is in the 2021 Crosstrek limited and sport models. I suppose VIN numbers would indicate if check on a computer data base. I assume the technician didn't and he was using printed resources at service time. I notified American Subaru headquarters about my incident. The appreciated my feedback to avoid the possible mistake of a technician not identifying the engine size. They both literally look the same from the top plenum configuration, filter location and size. Subaru Customer Service sent me some accessories for my car for notifying them of the possible mistake made on other Subaru Crosstreks at servicing. All is well! The less than half a quart overfill did not hurt the engine. If it were 3/4 quart or more that could/would be an issue. So, 2.5L owners...check before you leave the dealership and ask how much oil they put into the engine or, better yet, make a declaration before service you have a 2.5L engine and it's oil capacity is 4.4 quarts. I wrote in black marker under the hood of the car, near the inner lip, where you place the hood rod to support the hood up......"This is a 2.5L engine, 4.4 quarts oil capacity!" Also, on the filter near the fill port I wrote "2.5 Liter engine." I did have that written on the filter the first time...the technician admitted he did read that...but thought I was incorrect and disregarded my written info.... So much for owners who read the manual and technical workers don't ask questions. Doctors ask questions...I did all the time in my work! The car runs beautifully and drives and rides nicely. Average 34.5 mpg on the highway. No noises, everything is working well. The Conti tires are a superb combination! Onward!

Love This Car
Purchased a Sport model this spring with the 2.5 engine. Very happy so far. It has plenty of zip and gets great milage. I drove down the NYS Thruway this past week and got over 39 mpg going east. Coming back I got about 36.7 mpg going west. Its easy to drive and very comfortable, even for long trips. The only con is the infotainment system. The memory stick only plays songs in alphabetical order. Also the car keeps turning on the radio when I shut off the ignition. I'm not sure what the designers were thinking, but the electrical/software people have some work to do. Update after 1 year: Still very happy with the car. No complaints except for the ones mentioned above. Update after 1 1/2 years: Still happy, no problems to report Update after 2 years: Ditto

New engine rocks!
I was first drawn to the Crosstrek due to it still offered a stick shift in the base model. Unfortunately the new engine in the larger size is only offered in the automatic transmissions. So I bought the Sport model. LOVE it so far! Fun, sporty, and the engine can really kick! Every time you start the car it defaults to the more fuel efficient mode, but if you hit the Sport mode, it's even more fun! Also like the higher ground clearance that is part of the Crosstrek. Only negative, should have offered an option of LED headlights for the Sport model. It's only on the Limited model.

2021 Premium manual transmission
My last car was a 2013 Honda Fit Sport, manual transmission, leather seats. Great car but it is built for smoothly paved streets and I felt every bump. The Crosstrek is an upgrade suspension and interior finish-wise. Quieter, more comfortable. The engine and transmission are not as fun and zippy but get the job done. If the manual transmission were not available I would’ve gone with the sport trim and the 2.5 liter engine. But the stick gives me enough enjoyment with the 2 liter pulling the 3100 lb car. It works fine. I have not sweated it while on ramping. If money falls in my lap I may install leather (that’s how I did the Fit) but the cloth has its virtues on very hot and very cold days. What I miss most from the Fit ... zippiness and the rear seats that fold up like movie old movie theater chairs. Every car should come with those! What I like most about the Crosstrek ... the ride quality (smooth) and how it does the most for me in its price range. Great vehicle! I recommend it!

Mr.
Subaru's are known for their safety and reliability and this Crosstrek seems no different; my wife and I are giving our daughter our 2015 Crosstrek which is still in excellent shape and without any significant issues. This is our 9th Subaru and this 2021 Crosstrek we purchased seems every bit as well put-together and solid as other models. We bought the Sport Model with a stronger engine and I will say it does feel stronger off the mark but also quieter on the highway than our 2015. Seats have better length in the seat and improved lumbar support making longer trips even more enjoyable to drive. The controls are laid out like the 2015 so it was easy to get accustomed to. We were new to the Lane Departure feature on our Crosstrek and that took a little getting used to but after some highway miles, the car virtually drove itself as long as it could see the stripes. Certain glare or sun angle issues caused the Eyesight to turn off the Lane Departure feature until it could regain where the stripes were. Back seat comfort was good as is cargo space being adequate for most tasks - not as much space for cargo as other small SUV's but for my wife, more than enough. Heated seats reacted quickly and the heater/AC system has been great in the South Dakota Winter. Rear and side mirror heaters work well too. Overall, this has been a great purchase and I know this car will be comfortable and safe for my wife over the next several years...probably until it dies as we have no other children to give our cars too!

Great, except the comfort of the front seats
Out of 1,000 reasons I wanted to buy this car, the seating was not that comfortable. If I were younger I would have bought in a heartbeat. Alas, 4 kids and collegiate tennis have given me a tricky back and there is not any lumbar support in the front seats. I still love everything about the car, but it wasn't going to age well with me or my back.
PLASMA YELLOW!!
I did 2 test drives of the 2.5L Sport before going for one. 1st test i was not impressed, i guess was expecting too much for $29k. 5 or 6 wks later i tested one again (after testing all kinds of other x-overs). Decided it was good enough, almost fast enough and above all THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. Steering is lighter than i would like, the rear hatch is finicky when trying to close it....other than that it’s fine. And the colour is a fun departure from black/silver/grey/white. WARNING: the autonomous functions! OMG, straight onto the freeway after purchase and heading home. But what’s happening? Did they put the tires on backwards? Did i get a lemon? The car was veering all over the place, i thought i’d crash :( So after 7 or 8 miles i pulled over and called the salesman. ‘What the heck is going on?’ (I asked) ‘Did you maybe activate LANE KEEP ASSIST?’ Came the reply. WHEW! That fixed that. And on a subsequent outing i began to feel comfy using that function. You can get away with just a pinky resting on the lower part of the steering wheel w/o the car scolding you and cancelling LKA. Coupled with adaptive cruise, it reduces the fatigue factor A LOT. I live in the northeast and i’m trying something different with this car: i’m just leasing for 3yrs, so rather than purchase snow tires and have to put on/take off 5 or 6x over the course of the lease, i’m trying a set of VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 5. All weather tires (as opposed to all season). Snowflake-rated. We’ll see if the tread life holds up. Tires are very quiet, smooth. No squeaks, rattles or malfunctions so far after 400mi.

Transmission Issues
I had a 2019 Crosstrek and put about 21,000 miles on it with no issues at all. Loved the car except for the sluggish acceleration. I got a great deal on a 2021 Crosstrek Sport so I bought it about 2 months ago. I was driving back from Colorado, car has about 3000 miles on it at the time, and out of no where the dash lit up with errors. AT Transmission Oil light was blinking, check engine light came on and eyesight quit working. There was no warning or anything. We had already driven about 400 miles that day out of 600 with no issues. It was very scary. I pulled over for a while and then started the car again. All the warning lights were off and we continued on our trip. We did make it home, but when I took the car in to get it looked at they said it was a solinoid that triggered the error message PO977. I asked them what they were going to do about it and they said I would have to wait for it to happen again. WTF Subaru? So next time it happens I can be stranded in the middle of nowhere. I think I am going to have to take the car back and see if I can trade it in for a Honda or a Toyota. Huge Subaru fan, but this is an epic fail in my books.

Vehicle and Corporate Let me Down
I purchased a new 2021 Crosstrek hybrid plug-in vehicle. The first three months it was mostly in for repairs. I called corporate and they were not helpful or concerned. At one time, they just ignored me for a week and kept saying they would call and never did. This was Subaru America. I did write to Subaru in Japan and never heard anything back. I thought Subaru was supposed to care about their buyers, but that was not my experience. I am still trying to work out what to do with the car as it is still glitchy and I do not feel at all comfortable about the mechanical stability of the vehicle.

Exceeds all expectations
I purchased a 2021 Crosstrek Sport with the 2.5 engine. Power is more than adequate, and Fuel economy is better than advertised. I'm 6'3" and I find the car downright roomy. The Technology is Sick, this car has me wondering why I never purchased a Subaru before. I couldn't be happier!
Can't quit Subaru
This is my third leased Subaru. Every time I shop for a new car, I test drive other well reviewed cars of that year. They're not bad but all come up a little short in one area or another such as acceleration (not bad in Subaru sport mode), handling, ride comfort, quality of materials, gas mileage, and safety. I'll admit my previous BMW was more fun to drive, but not worth the extra money to own, not just buy. People who own Subarus seem to love them.

Exceeded my expectations
I have only owned this car a week but it has exceeded my expectations. I chose the Limited and highly recommend this indulgence. The leather, BSD, navigation, adaptive cc, x-mode, Eyesight, and on and on. Love it. I have no regrets!

Splendid little SUV
Our new Subaru Crosstrek is the best car my wife and I have ever owned. It is roomy inside and very comfortable. The seats and sound system are great. The modern digital apps and driver assists are a real 21st century trip, yet simple enough for old folks like us to master. The ride is smooth and peppy. It tracks straight as a bullet, and has nice ground clearance. I am delighted with this wonderful little SUV. We have had some heavy rains, and it is a wonderful bad weather car, handling slick, puddled roads masterfully.

Awesome vehicle
If you’re looking for a practical, durable car you can use in virtually any weather, this is the answer. The AWD system is fantastic, and if you get at least the premium trim, you get all the cold weather goodies like heated seats, windshield wiper de-icer, and heated mirrors. It’s not the fastest, but the new 2.5 engine puts it at least on par with competitors. I wouldn’t even consider the base 2.0. It’s not the most luxurious, but the materials feel nice and it’s all about durability. There’s a certain charm to it. The space with the back seats down is excellent for this size. I’ve put a large sized, full suspension mountain bike back there with no issues (laying down of course). Lots of people complain about the base stereo, but I’ve found it to be so much better than Ford’s newer Sync systems. The optional stereo upgrades sound even better. Fuel mileage is excellent, the average for me has been 30 with a mix of city and highway. Another bonus is that I’ve never had a bad experience with Subaru’s service. The one by me regularly has owner’s events and really treats you like family. They also offer a legitimate full coffee and snack bar for free while you’re waiting.
Crosstrek
I love my Crosstrek 4 door SUV AWD! It handles well in any weather and even on gravel roads. I'm so pleased with the smooth ride and comfortable interior.

Great new ride
We bought a loaded Crosstrek Sport in the amazing Plasma Yellow a few weeks ago. Love it! Super nice driving experience. Smooth and plenty of power. The color rocks, though not all my friends and family agree at first glance. I’m all about being unique. Drives great, nice features, smart look and feel. I moved away from a Mini Countryman and kind of miss the slightly more luxury feel of my last few European vehicles. I’m driving this one for a few years, and will see if I stay a fan. So far, good experience, but still feels like a step down, especially the interior. That aside, which is more my own experience, it’s a great vehicle and no issues at all so far other than Apple CarPlay being intermittent. Sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn’t. They blame that on Apple, of course. On the other hand, using CarPlay is a non-negotiable for me, so it sours the experience no matter who’s to blame. The sales guy convinced me I wouldn’t need the nav feature upgrade because I had CarPlay, but when I’m driving in a dense unfamiliar urban area and it randomly disconnects, I wish I had the nav system.

Most UNcomfortable car ever!
I really want to like this car, but I can’t take the pain. Driver’s seat is rock hard and even though seat can be raised, the angle doesn’t change. Like sitting in a concrete hole! Tried every seat cushion available, nothing helps. Not being able to open the hatch from the inside is also irritating. Bought it new, but going to get rid of it. (BTW, I’m an average size female: 135#, 5’6”). It does look nice, safety features and headlights are good. So disappointed!

You need a Crosstrek!
Purchased at the end of May, now 6 months and 9000 miles, I have never had a better "vehicle" experience. From the showroom, my salesman and the entire dealership have responded to any questions. The re -delivery, about a month after my purchase opened my eyes to some of the unused features. I purchased a Sport model, 2.5 engine. I drive about 60 miles daily commute, the mileage has settled on a very consistent 31 mpg. My previous 4 vehicles have been Honda's, 2 Fits, a Civic, and an Element. The Crosstrek impresses me daily, from city driving handling and maneuverability to handling inclement road and weather conditions. The CVT AWD was a big selling point for me, the numerous safety features ACC, EYESIGHT Technology, Lane departure all have been reliable and the ease with which you become accustomed to them is phenomenal. I performed the oil change myself at about 6000 miles, thoroughly inspecting everything I could see or put my hands on undercar. I really feel the compact SUV designation this model has is a misnomer, it feels much more substantial on the road and behind the wheel, and fits me very well at 6'1' 225. Seat, visibility, climate and cabin comforts and amenities are all superior to my previous Hondas. I appreciate the ease of accessibility, the cargo area and driveability. I had only one issue in the first month, one taillight malfunctioned, I called my dealer Dave Wright Subaru, they had me bring my vehicle in at my convenience and quickly changed out the light assembly. I should have bought a Subaru many years ago! In fact I remember my driver's training vehicle in high school was a DL coupe There are SUV'S with more, and many with less than my Crosstrek. The Boxer 2.5 is efficient, and has great acceleration. I am very pleased with my Subaru Crosstrek, my dealer and Subaru. I am already looking to the new model Solterra Electric. Subaru wowed me with the Crosstrek. Interior, seating, heated mirrors, tinted glass, environment-friendly Startex upholstery, visibility, smooth shifting and fuel economy, safety features, remote starting with my iPhone. You get a lot of vehicle and value with the Crosstrek. Give it a drive!

Sube. Cross 2.5 Subcompact
Love the New Subaru Crosstrek Subcompact. It's not an SUV. I've driven an SUV and this is nothing like that. It has a little less cargo space then my past Impreza, but it has a nicer ride and taller ground clearance.

Pacific Northwest Crosstrek
An all wheel drive car with a powerful 2.5 engine. What a great car! I bought the Limited with power sunroof, heated leather seats and lots of other creature comforts. The XMode has proven a winner for winter driving in the Pacific Northwest along with the great heated seats. Very comfortable and the handling is amazing. Sun roof open during the summer - great fun. This car is tons of fun and we love it. For everything included, the price seems good. Glad I bought this car. We moved some stuff up north from California and with the rear seats down there was an amazing amount of space in the back. Crosstrek is a winner all the way around!!

Worst car I have ever owned
I’ve had my Subaru cross trek hybrid for a little over a year now, and buyers remorse doesn’t cover it. The gas mileage average is 20mpg if I don’t plug it in (which I can’t in the winter because the port door freezes up when left open) and 40mpg plugged in (which is worse than my moms non plug in hybrid got 15 years ago). My check engine light, eyesight system, and radio fritz out for no reason. Every time I have a new problem (about every 2 months), and look up the issue online, there are pages and pages of others with the same issue Do yourself a favor and buy something else. I will never buy another Subaru

To Noisy
I really wanted to buy this car. Test drove a Limited model with the 2.5 engine. Car rides really nice and smooth. But, the road and wind noise is excessive. The loud noise from the wind and tires plus the engine killed the deal for me.

Jumped on the bandwagon without doing my homework
Bought my car brand new at the end of July 2021. Since then, the seats have started to fade, and so has the black plastic molding around the doors on the exterior. Car is not parked in direct sunlight, and I’m the only one that occupies the cabin, so it’s not like I have kids and pets in there causing premature wear. Transmission making a whining noise which is amplified if the radio is off; the transmission also is a bit “jerky” if you have to step on the gas to merge. Steering wheel leather wrap starting to develop wrinkles, and there is a strange clunking noise coming from the rear when shifting from reverse to drive. Car has 3972 miles, and this is absolutely unacceptable. Spend an additional $5000 and get a Toyota or something else, you’ll make up for the additional cost with less aggravation and fewer headaches.

worst car i ever had
the car has so many issues that i regret buying it every single day: 1) very weak engine 2) random jerks at low speeds 3) usb works on and off 4) weird noises and rattles everywhere in the car 5) fuel consumption is terrible 6) subaru service is the worst and they will constantly downplay your complaints
Great car, often overlooked Brand
This makes my 2nd Subaru and I will probably own this brand regardless of model from now on. I've owned it for a while now with no problems, my opinion of Subaru has not changed.

The right car at the right time in our life!
We are in our seventies and don’t drive as many miles as we used to. I’ve owned Outback’s in the past but nowadays they seem to be larger than what we need. Subaru has a dealership in town so that has always been a factor to own Subaru’s. They are well built, safe, come with standard all wheel drive, and are great cars for the northern New England climate that we have. There’s also enough cargo room for my wife and I to take our dog and all the necessities for a visit to the in-laws for a couple week's stay. We were both so happy with this Crosstreck that before getting home we ordered a Crosstreck hybrid to replace my truck.

Great little car
This is my 3rd Subaru, 2nd Crosstrek. My new Crosstrek is the sport model with the 2.5 litre engine. It is full of pep and handles like a dream. I traded in my 2019 Forester, which was also a great car. I no longer needed a bigger car (husband now has a pickup). I think the Crosstrek handles great on corners and snowy, icy road conditions. Great pickup getting onto the interstate, and super easy to manuever in parking lots. It has plenty of room for my husband, myself and our dogs.

Premium trim 2021
Bought a new 2021 Crosstrek Premium trim in August 2021. Would probably have gone for the Limited or Sport models but the dealership had no Crosstreks in stock and the vehicles that were coming in all were Premium trim so I went for it. I'm not sorry that I did. The less powerful engine in the Base and Premium models is not an issue to me. The acceleration seems just fine for my needs. I'm pleased with the 6 speed manual transmission..The car feels solid. There is little noise and the automatic climate control feature is a nice one. The gas mileage is a bit disappointing as I'm only getting about 27mpg combined city and highway. I got a good deal from my dealer despite vehicles going for over the MSRP. I am happy with my purchase

Got rid of it
I bought the base Crosstrek with Eyesight. Love the exterior styling. But the interior looks cheap and there's creaking noises around the dash and door trim. Paint chips easily. Update: engine sometimes will make a rattling noise under light acceleration at low speed (Like marble chips inside a soda can) I was told that it was a fuel problem, but after many stays at the dealership proved unsuccessful because "they couldn't replicate the noise", I traded it in for a CX-5 before the warranty expired.

'21 Subaru Crosstrek Sport 2 Year Ownership Review
It's been almost two years since we've owned our '21 Subaru Crosstrek Sport in Kool Grey Khaki and since it's a Japanese car, it's been rock solid reliable. No mechanical issues and no recalls. However, there are certain components that aren't holding up so well. There is a constant rattle from the center console and one of the sun visors that will not go away. Every time I go over bumps the car rattles like crazy which makes the car feel incredibly cheap. Also, considering it was almost a $30,000 vehicle when new, why doesn't it have LED headlights? Or at least LED running lights? It's a 2021 vehicle and has poor halogen lights that look like they were pulled from a 2004 vehicle! Only the Limited offers LED headlights (that also turn with the steering wheel called adaptive headlights) which is not good value. They should be standard on all trims. There's also an issue with the weather stripping in the windshield cowl. I went to open the hood to dust off the engine bay and noticed that the seal came detached and was difficult to reinstall. I didn't think a component that's out of the sun would fall apart like that. I also figured it's a Japanese car so quality should be a strong suit but with the constant rattling and trim falling apart, I'm not very impressed. Mechanically, it's sound but cosmetically, it could be better. Despite its shortcomings, I would still recommend this car to anyone looking for a compact crossover who doesn't want to lug around a big S.U.V., has standard AWD, and just enough safety features to keep someone happy and reassured. Since it's essentially a lifted hatchback, it's also quite fun to drive, especially around corners. The upgraded 2.5L Boxer with 30 extra horsepower is a noticeable difference compared to the base 2.0L. Anyone who is interested in a Crosstrek, I would recommend either the Sport or the Limited. They're the better value out of the bunch.
