Used 1999 Saturn S-Series SL2 4dr Sedan Consumer Reviews
Efficient and Comfortable Enough
Slept in car going/returning 1200mi to save money. Comfortable and restful enough for a powerdrive. I get 40 mpg hwy and 30 city. Manual transmission helps. Power and handling are great-- better than most cars with larger engines. I chose Saturn for the first car I bought new because 1)it has the highest US/North American content of any car; 2) I liked the quirky adverts; and 3) by 1999 Saturn had worked out the problems of excessive interior noise. Now that my wife's Honda Civic needs to be retired, it is VERY difficult to consider any other automaker. I have had no problems with this car and change oil every 3k miles.
saturn eval
Very reliable. It is fun to drive and gets great mileage. The 5 speed transmission is very smooth. I tow it behind an RV as well and it works out great.
I wish I never bought a Saturn
This has been the worst car I have ever bought. It has had on problem after another.
Good Car Value
I've had my Saturn SL2 since 8/98. Other than getting a bolt tightened on one of the windshield wipers ($19.50), I've had no out-of-pocket expenses except routine maintenance items. This is my 2nd Saturn since 3/1995. The 1st one was an SL1. I prefer the SL2 because the slightly bigger engine has more accleration and is more fun to drive.
Buying again
I cannot speak highly enough about this car . I bought it used with 44,500 miles on it. It is loaded with everything. I had a fuse block problem and that has been it until recently. It now has 150,000 + miles on it and I am looking at about a $700 repair as the rear main oil pan seal has completely worn away. I am looking to get another used saturn from the same dealership. Even with the oil issue at present I still get 30+ mpg. This has been a good, solid, reliable, and fun car. I cannot say enough about it or the dealership and its people!
