GTO is awesome
I took one drive in the GTO and loved it. Pontiac needs a new photographer because this car is absolutely gorgeous in person. It is beautifully understated and the interior is exquisitely crafted. If you drive to work in this car, you'll immediately think your job is worth it. Few cars will cut you off while getting there, you'll be able to merge by going faster than everyone, no more stuck on the onramp. Yep, this is a car that makes driving a sheer joy.
MID LIFE CRISIS.
I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 6 WEEKS. I LOVE THIS CAR. I HAUL NEW CARS FOR A LIVING, AND WHEN I HAULED ONE OF THESE. I NEW I HAD TO HAVE ONE.A SILVER 6 SPEED BLUR ON THE ROAD. THIS CAR WAS JUST WHAT I NEEDED TO REVIVE MY YOUTH AGAIN. MY WIFE EVEN LOVES IT. SHE DID NOT LIKE MY VETTE. ITS LIKE VIAGRA FOR THE STREET. ANYONE LOOKING FOR A REAL RUSH SHOULD CONSIDER THIS CAR. ANYONE I LET DRIVE IT, CANNOT BELIEVE THE POWER. IT HAS THE BEST HORSE POWER TO DOLLAR RATIO YOU CAN GET.AS FAR AS THE STEREO IS CONCERNED, I WOULD RATHER HEAR THE MOTOR PLAY!!!

Return of the Goat
This GTO is the best GTO ever built. My dad bought this one and let me tell you it drives like a dream. My dad also has a 1966 GTO and he definitely likes the new one better because it's better, faster, more fun, an more reliable. All I can say is that it's awesome, and I sure as hell hope that GM builds their Ram Air 6 concept as the next GTO Judge. THE MUSCLE DAYS ARE BACK AND HERE TO STAY.
GOAT
This car is the best built Pontiac in years. It is very reliable. It is A BLAST to drive. My only complant is when my wife takes it. To all that complain about is fuel economy find a Sports car with better mileage. To all that hacked its exterior design why did you buy it?
once again
i have had over 400 cars numerous performance cars the 2004 GTO is one of the finer ones 60s performance, handles great,STOPS! styling grows on you get with the times A LOT NICER CAR THAN I EXPECTED
Very pleased
Patience paid off as I waited to buy until GM finally offered incentives. Car is comfortable enough for my daily commute, yet still has the power available when I want / need it. The only drawback to this point has been dealing with every 18 year old kid in a Mustang wanting to race at stop lights - I'm 32 and the tickets (and danger to other drivers) stopped being worth it long ago - although I have to admit I've had it up around 120 on open roadways and it purred along at about 3,000 rpm - plenty left if it weren't for the electronic governor! I've owned lots of vehicles and this is the first one I've had that's still a joy to drive every day six months later.
2004 GTO
A well built car with outstanding performance. Competitive with much more expensive cars.
What a Driving Machine GTO
I love this car, it handles well, it's a torque monster, the engine note reminds me of the cars from my youth, and the interior is outstanding Pontiac and the Aussies got it right! I have driven my GTO from L.A. to Las Vegas twice what a blast (26MPG) I had the car up to 110MPH and I had plenty of pedal left. I've had my GTO for 6 months and at least 2 times a week someone tells me how cool the car looks and sounds, bland exterior I don't think so. I just saw the 05 Goats at a local dealer and I don't like the hood-scoops. I have only seen 3 other GTO's on the road in 6 months but I see at least 10 to 20 Stangs a day on the road. Pontiac has brought the Muscle back to Muscle car.
Fast, Fun Head-Turner
Lots of fun to drive - and oh, so quick! It is comfortable and has lots of nice features. After having 1999 and 2002 Grand Am GT's, my GTO is an excellent step up and with all the great incentives offered, only very slightly more expensive. I also like the fact that there are very few on the road. Hopefully future models will incorporate suggested improvements so my next GTO will be even better!
Had it a month, it's PERFECT
I've had it a month and I LOVE it. It's fun to drive, comfortable to ride in, and unbelievably fast. It's not for everybody (family with frequent use of the back seat, someone who needs a large trunk, etc...). But, if you want a fast, fun car in a 2+2 configuration, this is the car. For me, it's a dream car. I've wanted a fast car for 30 years. For me, this one is perfect. Even the stereo is fantastic... 6 in dash CD, 200W and 10 speakers... I look forward to driving it every day.
A Great Goat
I bought my 04 goat 6 month's ago and it has been a great car. Performance is excellent, Not a mustang around wants any part of it !!! We traveled about 150 miles with a Mercedes running with us from speed's 90 to 110 mph and average 23.4 mpg. yea 23.4 at those speeds I couldn't ask for a car more fun to drive for $35000.00..... Thanks Pontiac
The best sport car ever
I love the gto and the car is just sweet. I love the power and exterior and interior design.
M6 Impulse Blue 2004 GTO
I purchased my 2004 GTO in November 2004. I have 2600 miles on the car and to date have had no problems with it mechanically. I do have a few concerns in the fact that the drivers and passengers windows do not defrost when there is inclement weather. Also the fact that you have to shift the 6 speed manual transmission from 1st to 4th (CAGS) under certain conditions is a pain in the neck! There is a bypass kit to eliminate this feature so I will probably install one soon. Also the fuel economy isn't close to what is stated on the window sticker. I thought that the power would be better but with a heavy car I guess its not too bad. In general I like the car very much and for the pricing it is great.
04 GTO
I'm not crazy about the looks, for sure. It has plenty of performance but not much better then my 66 442. I think Pontiac ruined their resale value when they were selling them for $26,000.
Stealth performance
Car is an awesome driving car. Quite comfortable for 4, though getting into the spacious back seat can be a challenge. If a trip anywhere is on the agenda, pack light... as the GTO has a shockingly small trunk. I have the 6-speed, and it shifts OK except when cold. But what I really dislike is the forced 1-4 upshift under light throttle.
this car rocks!
The car is simply awesome! As an everyday driver, it more than gets me from point a to b, but also actracts thumbs up from many. At the drag strip, I reigns supreme... stock times were 13.3sec.s @ 104.9 mph. which is much better than the advertised time of 14 sec.s. Ride quality is great in all 4 seats, during long or short trips... it is a ride to look foward to.
Just try one, once.
This car is an absolute blast to drive. Drive one just once and you will be hooked. The 5.7L V8 is a great engine that's well-suited to this car. It handles great for a large coupe and delivers better performance for your dollar than probably anything else out there. The interior is very nice, especially for a Pontiac. There is nothing cheap-looking about it. The seats are large and supportive. I've had mine now for 6 weeks and can't think of a thing I'd change.
04 GTO
Excellent fit and finish. Fun performance from an understated package. Great low end torque with smooth, quick trips to 6000 rpms. Simple air, heat & audio controls. Super stereo.
Fantastic Car
Got a great deal on the car and could not be happier. Worth way more than what I paid. About 9000 miles on the car and no problems. By far the best car I've ever owned. Great handling, greater power. I am costantly being stoped and asked about the NEW GTO. A friend has a 2004 Corvette and the GTO is pretty darn close in fun factor.
Best Muscle Car
Quite frankly the most comfortable and best built muscle car you can get. Drives like a Bimmer and pulls like a freight train.
Nearly perfect!
I love nearly everything about this car! The power is outstanding, the comfort of the seats and controls is fantastic. I love the fact that you don't see a lot of them on the road. My first time in the car, i drove it 900 miles to get it home. I averaged over 27 miles per gallon! The power is very addicting and that doesn't help with the rising fuel prices.
great car
tight car, made well, great to drive. the radio is the worst thing about the car, the radio doesn't come in very well, but I guess no one purchased this car for the radio.
Yellow Jacket 6spd
This car has 1960's Muscle car performance with all the modern comforts. My last GTO was a 1970 and the 04 GTO puts it to shame in just about every way except for looks. The new GTO is reliable, fast, gets good milage (for a performance car) and is very comfortable. I drive this car all through the Michigan winter (traction control and all season tires make this possible with RWD). My zero down 24k 2yr lease is $300/month. A lot of car for the money.
'04 Goat
Great car to own. Gear shift is not as smooth as the Vette or other sports cars, but is still good. Handles well on dry pavement, but gets loose easy. Not good in areas with snow. It is great quick and is truly a sleeper. Most people don't notice the car until they hear the rumble. This a great car for a mature adult. DO NOT BUY FOR ANYONE THAT IS NOT MATURE. Performance, as stated before, is unbelievable. This car rates well in its class, but don't think it is as fast as Vette or Viper. It can be modified to push 600 hp for $6000 at some custom shops. Thank you for your time.
Fun to drive...But quality issues
Currently at 20k miles-loved the car for the first 15k, but going downhill. Electrical issues, transmission is giving off spinning noise in neutral, u- joint not sounding healthy, front end vibrations, coolant warning light coming on, automatic lighting (int/ext) has failed. Grateful to have leased instaed of bought.
The Australian M3
I had named this review the American M3, but that would not be entirely accurate. I purchased my GTO late in the 2004 model year when GM was offering great incentives. The GTO has been a joy to own. I now have just under 21,000 miles on it and I couldn't be happier. This car has plenty of power on tap, yet can achieve over 30 mpg on the hwy. (6- speed manual). Around town, driven with care, I average 21 mpg. The interior is among the finest GM offers with a clean design and rattle-free construction. The handling is decent for a car this size. The car offers a comfortable ride and feels solid, as it should with the weight this car packs. Overall a nice, clean powerful car.
Still Love it
Its been a year and a half. Had only one problem, pass side door lock stopped working. Car is a blast to drive. Don't care for the blaupunkt. Should have bose system. Otherwise very happy with car.
2004 GTO
Great "grand touring" car for the money. Plain styling, but the overall performance and built quality (not your typical GM car) make up for this.
GTO = FUN !
Great FUN Car! I Love It, everytime I drive it I get a big smile on my face. Very well built, really close to a BMW in quality and performance at one half the price. Makes a wonderful Modern Muscle Car, that why I want a 2006 - 50 more ponies means that smile will be just that much bigger!
Why the GTO is a sleeping Giant
In, my opinion the 2004 Pontiac GTO is very underestimated. The Car exudes inpressive performance for the price and the interior is spot on. There is no other way to discribe it. Many people argue that its not a muscular as they wanted. My question to them is have they actualy driven one? Now i agree that it seems as thought it could have a faster 0-60 time or that the engine could have put out more, but and this is a big but if you could ever take one out on a track you would see where Pontiac was trying to go. It seems as though you and the car are comunicating with one antother. It was one of the best track cars for the money i have driven. It gets a big two thumbs up from me.
I Love my GTO
I bought my GTO with 18,000 miles on it. Took it to the 1/4 mile track in Ennis, TX. Ran 14's stock. Should've been better, but I guess my reactions are a little slower now that I'm over 40. I've had it up to 145 mph, knowing there was plenty more, but almost missed my exit. Looking at getting an '06.
My GTO is Good Enough
All GTO owners that I have talked to grows more pleased as time passes. Initially I was impressed with the muscle and speed. After a year of driving I began to love this car's European look! My car is black w/red upholstry, Calif.Chromed stock wheels, L&N air filter, best set of headers made, you can imagine the compliments that follow this classy and sassy road machine! When I purchased it I thought I might change it after 3 years, but it's the best car that I have owned. I plan to keep it. I have bought Pontiacs since the 60s, that includes Trans Ams Gran Prixs. All were good for their time, but none compared to my '04 GTO!
The new (albeit dead) face of Gm
This car is arguably the most solid car that have driven, or even been in. It has an Audi grade interio, and has 1 important feature imports do not have: The legendary 350 chevy in the form of LS1. The amount of refinement in this entire car is almost appalling from a muscle car standpoint. I am 22, just got the car about 3 weeks ago ans simply love it. There is a strong possiblity that after I graduate college (in 1 year) I will by a 2006 also.
Awesome 04 gto 6 spd
I bought my 2004 gto 6spd with 28,000 mi. The car has been running great ever since I bought it. No problems at all and for one of my cars to have that last that long with no problems. That says a lot about the car, I like to drive the car the way that it was meant to be driven if you know what I mean. 175 mph stock and I was just shifting into 6th gear at 160 it was still pulling for more. Tires don't last the longest but you have to do a burnout here or their its a muscle car. Everyone underestimates the car until they go for a ride in it a true sleeper around town about 19 mpg on a recent trip up to Canada I was getting about 26 mpg doing 80 mph+. The 6 spd tranny really gets the job done.
Great car
Bought car used with around 29,000 miles. I have put almost 10,000 miles on it and have had only one problem--gas cap went bad (???). car runs great. It's a blast to drive. The interior is good too. The styling isn't great but it grows on you. Also gets pretty good gas mileage (around 20 city/hwy avg).
Please Bring it back Pontiac
Most reliable fun to drive car I have had to date. The interior quality is one of a kind for a Pontiac. The six speed is a blast to drive.
Not what I expected
Car has been back to dealership 7 times, 3 of those times towed in. Electrical issues, transmission won't go into reverse after sitting, rear end noises, coolant leaks, battery. What else can go wrong. Very disappointed. Paid 34K for car 2 months later they have rebates and incentives. You can buy them for 24K now. So I'm 10K upside down from the start!!!
Goat Junk
Too many initial problems: 1) Blemishes in paint 2) Lights misaligned 3) Gear shift knob rattles 4) Needs New rear end after 1500 miles 5) Weatherstrip not attached to door Also, the car is not fun to drive for a performance car. It handles like a very heavy car. Too much plowing into corners. This has to be the worst new car I have ever owned in initial quality.
Goat with Gremlins
As the owner of a Porsche and Nissan Z, I was innitially impressed by the quality and performance of the GTO. The power and torque are great, but the gas mileage should and could be much better. I'm averaging about 15 miles per gallon mixed driving. Only 20 on the highway. The six speed manual forces you to shift from first to 4th at certain speeds. I find the feature annoying and dangerous. It's very distracting and requires too much effort. I hope no one has an accident. Secondly, my glove box 'fell off' with fewer than 900 miles on the car. Bad sign. Additionally, the defroster does not defog the driver/passenger windows. And the paint is flawed on the front bumper.
GTO- Geared Toward Oppression
Paying $30,300 I was really hoping that Pontiac would at least stand behind their product if something were to go wrong. With only 250 miles on the car the transmission started coming out of second and first gears and would not go into reverse without some coaxing. Along with dark gray paint spots all over the bright yellow exterior, I have already attempted on 3 different occasions to allow Pontiac to correct the problems but they will not even acknowledge them. From Showcase Pontiac's Service Mgr explaining to me that I was not driving the car hard enough to Don Mackey Pontiac telling me they do not know how to work on the car, I CANNOT be MORE DISAPOINTED! Lemon vehicle meet Lemon LAW!
Cheap Piece of Junk
The nose of this car is cheap plastic. It pulls off whenever the rear of the nose comes in contact with anything on the ground. The interior is also a very cheap plastic along with the siding under the car. Overall poor build quality. This car is not as fast as it should be with this kind of engine in it and the poor gas mileage it gets. It is heavier than most SUVs so power to weight ratio is terrible!
