Awesome Car 2 own, Best I've ever had
This car is awesome. I have owned it for only 6 months now. I bought it was 203,000 miles. It was VERY well taken care for. I couldn't believe how well the people before me took such great care of it. It does have high millage however it still drives like it only has 10,000miles on it. However I am having 1 small problem. I can't seem to adjust the speeds on the heater blower, not sure why! Other than that I would totally buy another just like it. I have never had it break down on me.
Awesome ride
Bought the Olds last March & have taken it to AZ & back and Denver & back. Averaged 29.8 mpg, super comfortable ride & excellent power when passing. Like the way it handles, looks and low or no maintenance. Love my Car....
It's like driving a sofa
I keep reading about this 29 MPG crap! No way... not even close. But what do you expect from a full-size car with more than adequate power? Mine's 20 years old with 139K, and I'd rather drive this than most new cars. I wanted to write this review right away, but I waited until I've owned it for three months, which is basically the kind of guarantee you get from a used car dealer. Smooth, comfortable, and without a doubt, THE most quiet car I've ever driven. Everything in this stoic ride works right. You won't often say that about a car that has a lot of amenities, 20 years down the road. As a superlative of smooth and quiet, I was waxing the driver side front door, and didn't even realize I still had the engine running. I used to see these, with their split front door windows that resemble the old sidewing windows on early 1960's cars, and thought, and still do think, that it looked stupid. But it's absolute genius! By narrowing the top of the window, they seal up real nice and tight, and certainly have a lot to do with how quiet the interior is. The driver's seat is so big, plush, and comfortable, that it is literally, more like sitting on a sofa. You really need to be careful not to let all of this comfort and quiet distract you from the job at hand... driving! But with it's spectacular, panoramic visibility, you always know where you're at. So let's talk about driving. Every day, on my way home from work, I have a stop sign, at the top of the highway ramp, headed slightly uphill, where I need 0-60 in a hurry. NO PROBLEM! Accelerating from 60-75, and giving it gas to get up the hills on the highway is ... good. If the AC is cranking, it backs down to 'better than adequate'. But it's nothing like the doggy old 305 ci 8-cylinders that used to drag these boats around. And speaking of boats, this is nothing like the ones I've owned before. There is very little sway, pitch, and yawl when you have to actually maneuver this thing. Dare I say that it is damn near ... nimble? Effortless, precise steering, seems to be another of it's wonderful qualities. If you've ever owned an Olds, you certainly won't be disappointed with one of these beauties! Edmunds sent me an email, and asked me to update my review. Unfortunately, after 10 months of owning it, and putting nothing into it except an upper radiator hose, it started leaking fuel under the hood. We bought the proper kit to fix it, but it still leaked. So we did an old school fix with a piece of hose, which passed our inspection, and we considered to be more than OK. Two weeks later, I started it up one morning, and saw a small flame shoot out from under the hood. I tried to snuff it out with a blanket, but it got out of hand real quick, and the Fire Department had to put it out. I now carry a small fire extinguisher under the seat of my Aurora.

oldsmobile
this car was gave to me and it only had 44k miles on it when i got it now has 70k and ive already replaced the transmission in it and now im having problems with the fuel system and cant even drive it. it spits and sputters and stalls when u start it for about 15 min then it will run great ive had so many problems with this vehicle
15 Years of reliable Service
Bought the car new. It has now 161,000 miles. The car is very comfortable and reliable. Even after 161,000 miles the engine burns no oil and transmission works like new. I installed a external oil cooler which keeps the temperature of the fluid below 160 F. I change oil+ STP every 3000 miles and replace transmission fluid about 2 - 3 times a year by pumping out 1 gallon (thats all one can pump out through the dipstick). Repairs: Cracked head, leaky bypass tube.Replaced trunk lid springs twice. Even now excellent mileage: 29 mpg/ on highway. Best car I ever had.
Great Car
I have owned this car for 7 years. It has GM's legendary 3.8 Liter V6. Puts out 200 spunky horses. Nice space in the cabin. No cheap plastic console to sit next to. This is a great car. It is no "accident" that GM hit the skids shortly after they stopped making Oldsmobiles. The car has rubber cushions on the bumpers - not just a cheap piece of plastic waiting for the first nick. Until GM can (or anyone) can build a car this great again - I will just keep running it.
very pleased
I bought this car with 115000 miles on it. It now has 141600 on it and has been fairly trouble free. Its fuel efficiancy for a large car is remarkable. The 3800 series II moves this big car very well. I have been very happy with it since the day I bought it and I'm afraid to get rid of it someday. Other than the upper intake plenum blowing apert one time and sucking all the coolant into the engine, I have'nt had any other big problems with my 88.
1995 OLDS 88 HISTORY
I HAVE OWNED MY 88 1995 MODEL FOR SEVERAL YEARS. VERY RELIABLE BUT HAS HAD SEVERAL PROBELMS THOUGH. WATER PUMP,POWER STEERING PUMP, EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKET,FUSE BOX MELTING,SPARK PLUG FAILURES,ARM REST BROKE,WINDSHIELD WASHER HOLDER BROKE, DRUM BRAKES IN BACK ARE OLD IDEA, GM DEALER SERVICING IS POOR, ENGINE HAS LEAKED OIL SINCE DAY ONE.
Full Size car with plenty of room
Attractive car with great head and leg room front and back.Pretty fast for a V6. Adequate gas mileage. Adequate trunk space.Horrible suspension SUPER SOFT. I bought car for I wanted a good car for long trips. I am very tall this car is super easy to get in and out. Spacious interior. One of the most comfortable cars to sit in. Average reliability but I have never owned a car with a softer suspension which is one of the main reasons I got rid of it. They no longer make Oldsmobile's so trade in value low. Had major repair bills after 60k traded car in a dealer gave me next to nothing for the car. Most disappointing car I ever owned.

Loved my Olds!
Inherited this car from grandparents at a bit under 100k miles...drove it constantly, first highway and then mostly horrendous DC city traffic, while there were some repairs (water pump, strut, new brake lines, few electronics) I loved the car, and the Engine was always roaring to go. Only reason I am not still driving it at around 150k is because a tree fell on it in a storm last week. Would buy another but I want something a bit flashier :D
Save Olds / delete Pontiac
good reliable auto! very little trouble, nothing major!
Old Olds 88
3.8L II V6 is strongest motor developed by GM. Impressive performance, economy and duarbility. Vehicle has 64k miles and drives like it were new. Style is acceptable and performance is better. GM had a winner with this combo.
Comfortable, Fun Ride for the Road
Owning this car has been a dream come true for the driving experience and all the creature comforts. Unfortunately the repair costs are outlandish. But this car is worth every penny I put in to it. Its sound system is excellent, it has been reliable, and fun to drive. If only there were more experienced mechanics who knew more about the repairs and complex mechanical and electrical problems that can and do go awry.
great used buy!
Bought car for $6K and love it. Changed ignition module and horn stopped working. Had to install universal dash- board horn to pass inspection. Cost $65. Module cost $250. It just runs like a charm.Has security chip and security theft protect radio. Had local co.repair drivers seat to firm it up. Seat makes popping noise. Plastic near windshield vibrated, so put cardboard there and noise stopped. Engine is GM3500 and runs flawlessly. That's why I bought car. I expect 10 more years on it. Electric windows, seats, antenna work flawlessly. Don't let gas get to empty. This car is indestructible. Love it!
An Excellent Olds 88 1995
This has been an excellent auto. Gas mileage in town 18 MPG, on the interstate 30 to 36 MPG. The only thing I have had to replace are the struts on front and rear, disk pads on front, rebuild of water pump, new fuel level sending unit in gas tank. Leather interior has held up great. After 81,00 miles they are showing some wear. If I could find a new one I would buy it.
88 keeps on rollin'
I bought my 88 with 110,000 miles and it now has 155,000 miles. I have replaced the front struts and water pump. Just recently, the anti-lock brakes light came on, but brakes work ok. The car runs good and averages about 21-24 mpg.
My 8T8
I have had an excellent experience. It has been fun and I have enjoyed the high performance of the Supercharged 3.8L V6. Besides some typical maintenance since it has over 104,000 miles on it. My Olds has been a great vehicle and I plan on keeping this for my kids.
Great car until the engine locked up.
I loved this car. Loved it. It rode beautifully, was fast as hell, and offered the comfort of a lazy boy. Engine locked up. Car's done for.

Father's Oldsmobile
This has been an excellent vehicle for us. We purchased at 52000 miles and it now has 123000. Excellent road car. Gets 27-30 miles per gallon on highway. 3800 v6 is troublefree. We have had few repairs other than oil changes and spark plugs and recently a master cylinder. We are still on the original exhaust system. The interior is comfortable with the leather. All the bells and whistles in a used car for only$11750 three years ago- our best buy in a used car. We plan on keeping three more years.
Family Car
I purchased this car when it was four year old. It had 38,000 miles on it. I picked it because I thought it would be a roomy reliable family car plus I liked styling. Unfortunately, it was plagued with mechanical problems. The alternator went at 43,000 miles, as did the starter and water pump. It had electrical problems, excessive oil consumption, the transmission leaked etc. The car's door didn't even close properly. It got disappointing gas mileage. I sold it at 78,000 miles because of the mechanical problems. I can see why they stopped making Oldsmobiles, with this kind of reliablity record. At least it was very comfortable, had excellent visibility, a very strong engine, and a huge trunk. Its suspension was like a slinky, it had excessive body roll and wallow.
