Used 2004 Nissan Xterra SUV Consumer Reviews
Very happy and Not happy!
Back in 2002 I had an Se model with a 5 speed manual tran.,and I loved it. Now i go to buy a new one this year and they dont have a manual tran in the Se. Now I but the tran i wanted, but not the model I wanted. I got the Xe instead of the Se.Why did Nissan do this?
Don't Be Fooled
Bought the truck thinking it was an off- road machine, wrong. Alternator died on me and the dealer said it was due to being dirty and wouldnt fix it under warranty. The truck has about 38k on it and it rattles like an Army truck. Gas Mileage is terrible. Installed a cold air intake and flowmaster and still don't have the advertised mileage. Highway miles average about 15.25 and city is 17.85 even with mods. Truck is sluggish at best on the street but does perform off-road. Watch out for front hubs coming un- lubed easily. DON'T GET THE 5 SPEED, i'll leave it at that!!!

Great for price, but...
I am a 27-year old male, living in LA. Commute's only a few miles away, never had a new car, always wanted an SUV, so I got the Xterra. Test drove several SUVs and while performance wise this would not be my first pick, for the price and the look I was sold. It fits me to a T this car. I got mine in black, it's rugged looking and compliments have been plenty. However the gas mileage is atrocious! On a 19 gallon tank, I've probably averaged somewhere between 210 - 240 miles before it starts to reach E. They can definitely do better than that. So while I'd recommend this car to the younger, hipster person w/ a short commute, it's not ideal for the practical crowd or folks w/ long commutes.
