I'll be driving it 10 years from now
This a great basic car, no frills but all you need. I don't need a lot of the electronics they put into most cars, I just want dependable basic transportation andthe Nissan Versa fits that bill. It preforms well for what it is, I'm a little tired of critics that want to turn everything into a sports car. If your looking for reliable transportation that should last you fro years to come, check out the Versa. Six months later the car continues to perform up to my expectations. Gas mileage is far and above what was listed on the sticker. I'm am presently getting 35 mpg in town and 46 mpg on the highway. I have the standard transmission and take it easy, rarely going above 4,000 rpm. Still highly recommend the car for the money. It's a great deal.

You gotta' love it...
I drove my new 2015 for three years. No problems, no recalls; just fantastically cheap, reliable, comfortable transportation. I gave it to my "new driver" granddaughter and bought a new 2018 for myself. She doesn't need a TV screen, custom sound system, or three hundred horsepower to distract her. I sleep better at night.

fantastic commuter car
Not every person requires a 'fun' car with a 'personality'. I laugh reading car and driver reviews of the nissan versa. It's as if they were describing a person. I know it's so hard to believe that most of us commute to/from work, pick up kids etc. Where exactly are you supposed to put your high performance car to the test?...35 mph city streets with traffic lights every 1/8th of a mile:). At any rate, I digress. This car offers everything you need to get from point A to point B safely, reliably and very economically (low cost of ownership combined with 40mpg) even in some of the worst winter weather Wisconsin has to offer. It has some of the most cabin and trunk space in its class. I've had my versa 4 years now, bought it used with 10k miles. It has 85k mi now. I have not had any issues with it at all, I change my own oil (I think that helps). I used to take my cars in to the mechanic for oil changes and it seems like not long after an oil change something would break. Once this car breaks down bad enough that it cannot be fixed I'll probably buy another versa if that tells you anything. Quick update... 105000 miles on the odometer. Still loving the car.

Great economy car except handling in wind
Only negative from 1500 miles driven as rental is lack of road feel from steering in any amount of wind except tail wind. Constant attention needed to stay in lane.

Simple car with reliable technology. Has a conventional key that can be replicated for $2. Reliable transportation without all the gadgets that break down.

Utilitarian
A good basic roomy car for a low price. Most reviewers don't like the hard plastic interior but it is rugged and easy to keep clean. Gas mileage is well above the 27/36 advertised. My ONLY complaint is the electric power steering on the highway, too much effort is required to make the fine corrections necessary to maintain lane position. In all other conditions the steering is fine. Update: I wrote a review earlier where I mentioned poor steering characteristics. That has gradually improved over the 10,000 miles I've driven it since. Now its pretty much like any other small car with EPS. I suspect something like tight ball joints or steering rack that has loosened up with use. Whatever the case, the steering is much better. There have been no problems of any kind with the car and I recommend it for anyone who wants a good car that is inexpensive to buy and to own. Careful of the CVT model because of reported failures, mine is the 5 speed manual. Update after almost 3 years: Nothing new to report. Total miles about 28,000. Everything is working fine. No squeeks, rattles, or clunks. Gas mileage is still in the low 40s. 4 year (almost) update: OEM Continental tires worn out and replaced at 34,000 miles. New Michelin Defender tires are a definite improvement. Also replaced windshield wipers at about 35,000 miles. No other issues with the car. Average gas mileage still at 41 mpg.

Economy at it's best
I bought a 2017 Nissan Versa SV brand new. I liked it so much that I bought another "new" one in 2019, this one is also an SV, but it's the "Special Edition" which offers a few nice features. I've learned a few important aspects about how to get the most out of a car, especially something that's toted as the least expensive car in America, meet the Nissan Versa. Consumer ratings for the Versa haven't been great in some key areas, one such key area is the X-Tronic CVT transmission. There has been an on going history with this transmission in which they've been completely failing as early as 50k miles, and even sooner in some instances. Here's what I've learned over the past 5 years of driving a Versa. FYI, I bought my Versa's specifically for driving for Ride shares, Uber & Lyft. That said, I log approximately 6k-7k miles per month. I live in Southern Arizona, so the car is driven primarily during daylight hours in summer temperatures of 105° - 110° for about 4-5 months. This particular point is very important, I'll explain later. Let's begin by focusing on the X-Tronic CVT and how to avoid experiencing problems for many miles. It begins with maintenance that needs to be done immediately after purchasing, if possible have the dealership do it, but make certain they actually do it, as this is a brand new car so they might just fake it if you don't verify the work some how. The reason I suggest having the CVT completely flushed and serviced is two fold. 1. When I drove my first Versa off the lot I noticed the transmission was shuttering and not wanting to completely down shift when coming to a stop, this would result in very slow labored starts that causes it to shutter and shake. I took it to the dealership at 40k miles and was told the tranny was toast, blown and needed replacing. I decided to take it to a private shop that specializes in transmission and had them completely flush and service it. The mechanic told me and showed me that there wasn't hardly any NS3 fluid in it, NS3 is the type of fluid that tranny uses. So he did the service and the transmission never gave me another problem, and I have it flushed and serviced every 40k miles, thus far it has never used any NS3, which can only mean one thing, the manufacturer didn't fill it to specification, which could help account for the horrible consumer reports regarding early transmission failures. So, I took my 2019 Versa in for a tranny service immediately after driving it off the lot, as expected, the tranny barely had enough NS3 to even function, and it was shuddering right off the lot. At present I have logged just over 175k miles on that transmission and without a single problem, service them every 40k. The other thing that will break a CVT very quickly is by how you use it. Never ever shift from any gear to another, such as when going from reverse to drive, or drive to reverse when the vehicle is still moving, it must be completely stopped. And never put it into gear if your foot is on the gas pedal, in other words it should always be at a flat idle when putting it into drive or reverse. When driving up a hill don't let it bog down, give it enough gas to allow it to down shift to a more torque friendly gear and higher engine RPM's. The engine in the Versa is a DOHC and is designed to operate efficiently at higher RPM's, so at 3500 RPM's these over head can engines are right at home, they don't even red line until 6500 RPM's. Fuel pumps in these Versa's are prone to failure due to over heating issues. For folks that live in a mild summer climate, like some where it doesn't reach triple digit, you might not have a pump fail prematurely. But if like me, you live in triple digit territory and regularly drive for several hours during the heat of the day, expect to be replacing $589 fuel pumps every 40k - 50k miles. But there is a way to extend the life of these pumps, simply spray the bottom exterior of the fuel tank with spray foam insulation. What happens during the heat of the day, is that the scortching hot pavement heats the fuel up super hot, which heats the pump up super hot. All that heat causes excessive resistance in the electrical circuits. The pump will start making a lot of noise, then you'll start noticing some hesitation when accelerating. Change the oil as necessary or every 3k-5k miles, flush the cooking system every year, and change the spark plugs at 80k miles or when you start to notice it idling rough or slow acceleration. Clean the MAF sensor about every 10k miles. Add a Lucas fuel system cleaner about every 15k, this helps prevent leaking injectors, which can literally result in engine failure. The fuel drips on the piston, it pools up, then when the engine is started the liquid fuel gets forced down into the rings cause luquids don't compress, this break them, and can crack a piston or warp or crack the head to. DO NOT TOP OFF THE GAS TANK WHEN FILLING UP! You can ruin a carbon canister just by doing this a couple times. All the fuel you keep clicking in is going straight into the canister. Once the canister is saturated the purge valve begins malfunctioning, this causes the engine light to come on. Don't do it.
New 2018 Versa for 10499 with 5 speed stick & a/c
I enjoy a fancy car that truly impresses or a basic car that doesn't pretend to be fancy. The Versa is basic and looks good with plenty of real room inside. You never feel cramped in the Versa sedan nor do you have a lack of trunk room. You also don't get the erie feeling that a rear end collision will crush your back seat occupants. This car is almost as big as some compact and mid sizers namely the Mazda 6 from early 2000s. The car handles the road well and the stick is the way to go. I hear the cvt is an issue. Id actually would have liked the 4 speed auto that they offered a few years ago, but its gone. So I shift and save and save I did. I drove to Ohio from Buffalo to save 1400 on the car and paid 10499 on a 13200 msrp model. I was very happy with that price. No qualifications to get it/ 1500 rebate and the rest was discount. The last time I paid around 10k for a new car was back in 2011 on a chevy aveo for 7000 new at Christmastime. But that was with gm card roundups. This Versa is way better than an Aveo and I hope to get 200k miles out of it. I actually have seen some 200k mile Aveos around! The Interior issues on older Versas have been solved with better seat materials and a tach along with Bluetooth. So this inside is Very good and comfortable. I had a Mirage and I liked it but I like the Versa better. UODATE! I sold the Versa for 10k to a nice lady in central NY. I got sick of the ugly speedometer, crappy stereo and touchy clutch pedal. Otherwise I did like the Versa. I did go and buy a Mirage for 9988! Brand new. And I like it alot better than the Versa.

2019 versa
Just bought a 2019 versa so far so good! I like the fact that its a simple car. I was looking for a new car that got great mileage at a great price. I feel the lack of electronics and power windows etc. Will aid in the Long Jevity and future maintenance costs. They say it has plane styling but I think it's OK looking car. Very happy with it. I hope it lasts me a very long time Update: have had The versa over a year now almost 20k no issues so far. Mpg 33 combined.

Great little car that gets the job done!
The car is everything that I expected..Usually all the reviews that are given by auto organizations are always bad..but the owners, real people are favorable,If you want 300 hp, 17inch wheels, Bose sound system, look for something else, but if you want a basic affordable car, this car would satisfy most.

I was surprised
I drove this as a vacation rental in Florida. I am not a small car fan, but I was instantly amazed how COMFORTABLE it was to get in and out of the car. I have a midsize (Camry/Accord/similar- i.e, what rental companies call full-size) vehicle from another manufacturer and always feel like I am squatting down to the ground every time I get in. The versa felt like I was sitting in a captains chair.. so easy to get into and out of the car! I was also surprised by the interior's roominess, although I did notice it was much more narrow than my midsize car. However, it was much more comfortable. The back seats were also super roomy. With a small engine with the CVT, the gas mileage is what you make it. The previous users got 29 MPG; I got 36.5 for my trip which included 30% stop and go city driving. The city mileage portion kept me from getting 39+MPG. If you are heavy footed, you'll get the 25-29 probably.

It keeps on tickin'
I purchased the bottom of the line, base model with a 5 speed manual transmission and crank windows. Chose Versa for it's reliability. My son is still driving the Versa I purchased in 2009, which is still going with over 200,000 miles and only routine maintenance. The 2018 stops, goes, and cruises the interstate at 80 mph for hours, delivering 38 mpg (if I stay at 70 mph, it gets 40+ mpg). Heater and A/C are great. The sound system is a real bonus, hooking up to my iphone and playing my mp3 library, and the bluetooth works well on phone calls. I haggled and get it out the door for under $11k (plus tax,) and it is well worth it. Don't believe the unflattering review. I stopped believing Motor Trend when they named the AMC Pacer "Car of the Year" in 1975, and I bought one, and lived to regret it.

Just fine !
I purchased my Versa in November 2018. I traded in my 2007 Nissan Murano. Definitely a huge change for me. After driving the Versa for a few weeks, it quickly came to my attention of how light the car really was! The stability in windy conditions seems poor. To those who complain of how weak the acceleration is, you must have not driven CVT before. You have to know how to accelerate correctly, you can't just floor it. All in all it's a great car, for the value, but I do regret trading in my Murano, as it was a vehicle of much higher class.

For Those Who Seek Basic transportation
I rented a 2019 S+. I first got into a Kia Rio but felt the headroom was nonexistent (6'1"). The Versa offers ample headroom and a huge back seat. I drove 60 miles on 1.6 gallons of gas with the CVT. The A/C kept me cool in the 95 degree Florida heat provided the fan was on either the highest or second highest setting. The CVT is a little pokey and the motor is a little buzzy; but it all works. The car felt a little light over 70 mph. The driving position feels a bit low. The bottom line is, if you seek low cost transportation, then this, or the lower trim (S) is a good value. I can't say how reliable the drivetrain will be over time. I rented a model with 44,000 miles on it. The steering wheel had a slight vibration, but it felt like a tire balance issue and not a front end problem. It had a 12-volt, an AUX and a USB port, a back-up cam, and power windows, locks and mirrors. If the long term reliability is good, then this car is a very good value.

2019 Nissan Versa
Perfect subcompact car. Plan on flat towing behind a RV so purchased a manual transmisson model. Spunky little car. Few bells and whistles but a very good “basic” car
good car with manual transmission
OTD price of $10,600 in Feb 2018 for 5 speed manual 1.6s. That included everything. I am up to 54,000 miles with not one single problem. Don't mind the manual windows, but definitely miss the keyless entry. great back seat room. 45 mpg at 60 mph. 38 mpg at 65-70 mph. definitely shakes. Trunk latch has whacked me several time in the forehead with small bleeders. Shakes in heavy wind and you'll want to travel slower. About ready to replace oem tires before winter. cheap walmart high milage synthetic oil changes every 5000 miles. I can recommend the 5 speed manual. I would run from the cvt.

Best Value for the Price
Given this car doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" as our Nissan Rogue, I truly love driving this car! It's very responsive in drivability and I can't honestly remember ever owning a vehicle in this class that performed this well. Also, the dealership was professional and courteous...all the boxes were checked. Overall just an outstanding experience and will definitely go back for our next vehicle.

I went and purchased this car after seeing it on this website. I got the last one they had in stock of the Nissans they had in this price range. It's been a month and I have no complaints. I absolutely love it. Update: One year later, and still no complaints. Other than routine maintenance, everything still works great!

The automatic shift selector will slip out of park into reverse while powering off our Enterprise rental Had two accidents, Jan. 7 and 11th 2019. The car lurched into reverse and hit the cars behind us. Thankfully no child was behind us as this was in a school parking lot.

2018 nissan versa
The price below 10000 I think is good and the age as well
Love my Versa
I finally bought my commute car after years of going back and forth. Two years later and I am soooo happy I purchased this car. I have three kids and they sit comfortably in the back when I have to pick them up from school. My versa is the 5spd manual and my kids tell me that I drive it like Tokyo Drift. This is a very basic car but fun to drive, reliable and roomy. I love this car so much I convince my friend to purchase one also. I was considering getting the 2020 versa but the rear seat room seems a little more cramped. I would recommend adding after market speakers, rims and tint to give a little more spice. I love my versa you won't regret it especially with the manual.

Good gas mileage
So we recently went from Arizona to Nevada we went through Sedona places that were on mountains and turns this car has a very poor rating it has no power to get up those mountains it struggles it's very loud it's only good for flat dry areas so if you're thinking about getting this just know as long as you're going back and forth to work you got a good car

Simple and Reliable
I have only had mine for a bit over a month. It is very tiny in comparison to the 2007 altima I traded in. The SV comes with a nice looking interior and a handy bluetooth screen. I love the handsfree options. I do wish it accelerated faster, but the gas mileage is great. My only concern is safety. I can't speak on it, but it feels like a small car like this would crumple in an accident. I hope I never find out. I am a delivery driver, so this car is awesome for that and the price is excellent. The driver's side window rolls down automatically, but won't roll up automatically. Rear defrost, heating, and cooling are very good. The heat is maybe even too hot on full blast. There is no armrest for the passenger, but there is for the driver. I wish there was more compartment space for small items. There are 6 drink holders in the front/center console of the car, which is pretty good. This is a great car if you want something simple and reliable. I'm a college student, so it suits me perfectly. When I get my BSN, I will probably trade it for something with more frills and perhaps better safety, like a sentra. Ultimately, you can't go wrong with this car if you just need something reliable and don't care about special features.
Basic transportation
2019 Nissan Versa basic transportation but does it’s job well. No frills but gets the job done. Geared a little low for the interstate. Overall satisfied

I will NEVER buy Nissan again…
I bought my 2018 Nissan Versa SV practically new with around 700 miles on the odometer. In the 5 years that I’ve owned it, I have 30,100 miles on it and I have maintained it fairly regularly to ensure longevity but it didn’t seem to make a difference. In the last 6 months I have had to replace a belt, get new brakes, replace the cooling fan assembly, and now I’m having problems with the transmission. No mechanic will touch my transmission since it’s a CVT and my local Nissan dealership service center wants to charge up to $400 just to look at it! I shouldn’t be having these issues at only 30k miles! If you want a reliable vehicle that will last, I DO NOT recommend anything made by Nissan!

Awesome Versa
Love the car
Good for Students
This car is a 3 cylinder, subcompact, budget sedan. It is not a fast accelerator, and it doesn't have many frills. That being said, it is very reliable so far and gets great gas mileage. I seems reliable for someone who just needs to get from point A to point B efficiently. The SV is the best, and I would not get one in any other trim. The backup camera, blue tooth, and handsfree were the selling point for me. I find it comfortable, but wish there was an arm rest for the front passenger and I wish there was more room. Sound, AC, heat, defrost, etc. Are all great. I like that there are lots of drink holders. The glove box and trunk are both enormous. As a student seeking a BSN and delivering food for money, this car is everything I needed. It's cheap, gets good mileage, and drives smoothly. If you are a speed demon, you won't like a 3 cyl like this. I don't know how safe it is, being so small, but I think its probably average. DO NOT buy this car if you are tall. I am 5 ft 4 and I fit perfectly. My 5 ft 10 sister hits her head on the ceiling, no joke. It is also narrow, width wise. Overall, I wish it had more features (collision/blind spot detection, moonroof, heated seats, etc) but for the price, this car is fantastic. It is something you get while you are young and trade it in for a fancier vehicle when you are more established. I recommend for high school/college girls or short college boys.
