I love my car. Several family members have also purchased the same vehicle. All love it but say it is hard to control when it is windy.

Cheap but dependable

Pros: comfortable, surprisingly spacious for a compact car, seats are comfortable, always gets 38mpg, haven’t had any problems since owning it. Cons: road noise is unreal absolutely hate it. You have to speak loudly to have a conversation with someone. If you turn on the music it feels like you have yell with both mixed into it. Window motors are weak and make noise when using them. It is gutless. If you need to pull out in traffic don’t expect it to be fast enough to pullout on highway speeds from 0mph so plan lots of space. The camber is not adjustable on the front when aligning it which means you wear out tires faster than normal unless you buy aftermarket parts for alignment ability.

Bad transmission, otherwise runs well

I drove this car to 75,000 miles until the CVT transmission needed to be completely repaired. This came at a surprise because before that everything ran great. I bought it used, so I don't know how the previous owners treated this car, but there was a class action lawsuit against Nissan for this exact transmission. Fortunately, I was eligible to be partially reimbursed for the transmission repair. Other than the transmission, I haven't had to do any unusual repairs for its age. It doesn't have much kick to it at all, but that's to be expected for the engine type. Road noise is pretty loud and at high speeds the wheel vibrates your hands. Also, the factory radio screen becomes unviewable when the weather turns warm which is pretty annoying. Overall, this car is a good city car for its price. You have to decide if a potential $5000 dollar transmission replacement is worth it. Take good care of it and you should be golden. UPDATE: I wish I could go back in time and tell myself not to buy this car. The CVT in this gen of Nissans is notorious for failing and my experience was no exception. It has failed twice, once at 70k and the next at 130k. Repairs far exceed the value of the car at $5k to replace. Apart from the transmission, the display for the radio doesn't work under any amount of heat. It's an exceptionally weak car and struggles to go up hills and accelerate. The only pro is the good gas mileage, but at what cost?

I'll start out by saying that I fully recognize that my issues with my car may very well be imply because my car is 1 out of 100 that just so happens to not be great, but that being said, I am still not happy with it. I got this car because my '09 Chevy Cobalt died and I had no other options due to loan constraints (a grad student stipend is not really conducive to getting a loan). At first, I had no problems; was able to drive from NC to GA twice with no issues, got the oil changed and tires rotated as advised. Then around 3 months after purchase (used with about 51k on it, and I had added about 6k at this point), it seemed like everything that could need replacing on this car needed replacing. Big purchases, too: front control arms were both broken and/or cracked, the shocks and struts for both front and rear had to be replaced, the drive belt broke while I was driving on the highway--not once, but twice--within a week of getting the new belt put on (it is worth noting that the second belt broke due to manufacturer error, and the Nissan dealership did replace it for the third time for free), the timing belt also had to be replaced, and now my CV-T is acting up; this is on top of regular maintenance. Maintenance that already costs a significant chunk of my stipend without adding additional zeros to the sum. Now, granted, timing and driving belts and shocks/struts are part of regular maintenance in the big picture; however, my qualm is more that these things likely needed replacing BEFORE I bought the car, and the dealership did nothing to fix these prior to putting the car out for sale when they should have, probably because most dealerships sell cars in "AS-IS" condition (something I've learned to take as a HUGE red flag) when they want to get rid of them, and also because dealerships in general are not out to help the customer, they're out to make a profit. And for Nissan, based on a large number of reviews and reports and articles I've been researching and reading, customer safety and satisfaction is absolutely something that they're willing to compromise or straight up ignore in favor of making money. Again, I'm a grad student on a limited stipend budget, and even if I weren't, no one should have to sacrifice or compromise their safety in exchange for being able to have a means for transportation. My advice? First of all, run away from Nissan. Second, if you do decide to buy from Nissan, do a LOT of research into their CV-Ts, because they have been known points of failure consistently throughout the past almost decade, and Nissan has done nothing about it while also refusing to admit that a problem even exists; that should be a Red Flag regardless of the company. Third, if, against all poor reviews and information, you decide to get a Nissan, let alone a Versa, make sure you have plenty of money in your savings to get this car repaired.

Overall great car. CVT takes some getting used to and acceleration onto freeway unsatisfactory.
