I was looking for a practical car for my long commute (76 miles RT) The Corolla SE and Nissan Kicks SV were at the top of my list. I test drive the corolla first and didn't like it, the car was just ok. I continued to Honda and test drive a Civic (Sport) in red, the driving dynamics were by far superior to the Corolla. The Civic is sporty and sexy on the outside and well appointed and comfortable inside. I almost bought this car, but my wife didn't want the Civic. The following day, I went to Nissan to try the kicks and told my reluctant wife that the Mazda CX-30 was next on our list. Upon arrival at Nissan, we spotted a beautiful two-toned dark red kicks SV with a black roof, the car was really nice, had plenty of room on the second row and trunk, but the engine was severely under powered. Then we spotted an electric blue Sentra SV (which was never on my list or my wife's), it came with a premium package (ivory leather seats, power seats, sun roof, Michelin tires) we test drive this car and got blown away by the experience (peppy engine), the Sentra cornered sharp curves like nothing, since it is a new model (been on the market for few months now) as opposed to the 4-year old Civic, the interior was superior to the Civic as well. It is very elegant, everything is in the right position and visibility is superb, you definitely get more car for the money. We were so impressed with the test drive that decided on the spot that the Sentra was the car we were buying. In the showroom, they had a metalic orange Sentra SR with a black roof, LED lights, lower suspension, spoiler and other add ons to make it look very sporty. We bought this car and got a great deal from Nissan ($21.5k, 0%, 60 months) After few hundred miles, I like this car even better, it is really elegant, the interior is comfortable, roomy (my 12 and 14 year old daughters love all the space they have in the back) and it comes with all the latest technologies. Nissan did a good job with this car for sure. On the negative side, its hard to find something to say here, but there are few minor things for consideration: (1) MPG is listed as 29/39 on the SV and 28/37 on the SR, which is the trim that I have, but I am getting only 29-30 (average) so far, which is below the 32-33 MPG I was hoping/expecting. (2) at highway speed, sometimes I get a vibration on the steering wheel for a second or two, it might have to do more with the Hancock tires on the SR (I test drove the SV with Michelin tires and never felt the vibration), and lastly (3) the light sensor is super sensitive, when I drive underneath overpasses sometimes the dash goes dark (low light mode) and comes right back to high light mode (for contrast) when receives sun light again, I wish Nissan engineers had tuned this feature for a lag of 20-30 seconds or so, so it doesn't change light modes so fast, but some drivers might like this feature instead. I am really happy with this car, it has everything at a really good price, without unnecessary trade offs, it is roomy, agile, elegant and sporty.

We picked ours up yesterday and put 140 miles on it. Has a lot of nice features for the money. Handles very well, better than I thought it would. The engine pulls along pretty good for 149 horsepower. The seats are comfortable but, you may be limited to fitting in them if you are a little wide do to the side bolsters. Everything is right at your finger tips but, the car can be a little tough in spots to see out of. I would recommend getting one with the around view 360 for parking since you cannot tell where the front end is at. The car is low so you may damage it if you are not careful. The car is quiet and smooth to a point. The only drawback is like with most Nissan vehicles is the road noise from the tires on some highways. You would think they would add more sound deadning material in the floorboards. The trunk is bigger than expected also. The gas mileage is promising since it was already getting 34 miles to a gallon in all around driving. Since the car is not broken in yet I cannot use the cruise control. We will take it on a long trip this weekend to really test it. We are pleased with this Sentra it is a good car with a lot to like especially for the money if you can find one.

My Third Nissan Sentra

My first Sentra was 1997 base model. It was always parked outdoors, was very reliable with no breakdowns, and I put over 300K miles on it before the body started rusting away. I gave it to someone who actually fixed the body and his sister drove it for years afterwards before it finally gave out at a little under 450K miles. Unheard of even at that time. I went to Honda (different models) for a while after that and wasn't thrilled with the declining quality of the brand. Decided to go back to Nissan in 2017 and leased a base model Nissan Sentra. The monthly leasing fee was less than my cable (internet, phone, tv) bill, and the car drove smoothly, but it was also lumbering with no pick-up. I looked at other brands before I brought that lease back and was interested in two of them, but when I told the salesman that he came back with such a great offer on a new, base model 2020 Sentra, that I would have been a fool to turn it down. Just a point I want to make. I do not care about all the new tech or bells and whistles in cars today. The Sentra lease I returned only had a little over 11K ml. in 3 years, which should give you an idea how little I now drive. My main concern is reliability and safety. Gas mileage is negligible because I live and work in a small town. The furthest I drive is when going to the dentist which is about 40ml. away, or the capital, which is about 60. Well, a day after picking up my car I had a dentist appointment, and this car drove very well on the highway. Very smooth on the roads with pretty good pick-up. I felt no drag as I did with the 2017 model. The TCS (tractor control system) gave me warnings when I drove over unstable surfaces, and the blind side alert lit up briefly when I was considering a pass into another lane and there was a car there. I find the rear-view camera very helpful for getting out of my single car garage. So far so good, and it meets my present needs. The design of the car is a little more streamlined and as a result more aerodynamic and not clunky like it was before. It has more things in it than I'll probably ever use. If there is one thing I have an issue with it is while using my phone for driving directions. In order for it to go through the radio speakers I have to switch to Bluetooth from the buttons on the steering wheel, which means in-between directions I can no longer listen to the radio as I did with my last Sentra. Maybe I just haven't figured it out yet, but even if it doesn't work the same way, I consider that a minor annoyance. All in all, while I'm not ecstatic, I am satisfied with this lease.

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! I have owned three motorcycles and one Mustang. If speed is your thing then get one of those. With that being said this is the needle under the haystack. The diamond in the rough, the rose that grew from the concrete! The looks are a 10! The seats I might sue Nissan for making them so comfy I could almost fall asleep while driving oh but wait I won't because it has lane departure warning!!! :) The interior OH MY WORD I feel like I am inside of a 60k car! How did they give us all these bells and whistles and keep it under 30k I will never know! The only thing it doesn't do is drive itself and I am glad it doesn't because I would be missing out on how nice this car drives! Look do yourself a favor go test drive one I have been thinking about working at a Nissan Dealership Part Time because I know I could sell these things like it selling water on a 100 degree day! So lets talk about the CVT! It took some getting use to but now I love it! Also guess what there is a sports button which the sales person didn't even tell me about it, when I press the button it feels like I'm driving a lowered BMW it hugs the corners I even got scared and had to slow down so trust me you will never take corners at 80mph like I just did I just wanted to see if it could handle it and it does. So I will be honest I was scared to buy this car because of the past CVT issues that Nissan had, but do you really think they want to get sued again also the final decision of me buying this car was the dealership that I bought it from offered me a lifetime warranty on the CVT! That was it I was sold. It is so nice I'm thinking of buying my wife one lol. I really don't want everyone to go out and buy this car because then it will look like all the civics and toyotas that are on the road so please don't buy one lol. One more thing everyone keeps stoping in my blindspot and won't pass me you know what that means right? They are admiring the car but don't want you to see them admiring it. Thanks to the blindspot indicators that are always going off I know when someone is looking :) Where ever I stop people ask me what kind of car is that? That is one sexy car! Ok Ok enough I am going to the far grocery store that is 20miles aways just to get some chips lol

We traded in our late model Honda Civic. It was a a huge upgrade. Love everything about it. Latest average gas mileage is 39.1 and we really have not put it to the test yet on a long trip. The mileage has amazed us compared to our Civic. It is much more roomy than our Civic was also. Given the addition of independent suspension it handles very well and is fun to drive. We are simply not finding the sluggishness that is in reviews. Hands down this is a complete change in the Sentra from its prior years. It was not on my short list of what I wanted to test drive until I read reviews and once I test drove it the other car I had test drove it the Sentra went straight to the top not to be knocked off by any other brand name. We are at 1,500 miles before reviewing because we wanted to be sure of what we were saying had held true. Very little road noise, love the 360 safety. No longer having to readjust the cruise control and love the CarPlay in a very lovely sounding stereo system. The blind spot monitor is a great addition as well. We have already seen the accident prevention in action when a car pulled out in front of us. It reacted in a split second to stop. I just can not say enough about the 2020 Nissan Sentra.

The Car That Broke the Camel's Back

My husband and I figured we would be a Nissan family for life. We don't always have perfect experiences at our local dealership, but they try their best and we always look at the brighter side of things. However, we can't really look past the bad experience we've had with this car. We had the 2017 model and loved it. Our 2020 model, however, has been nothing but trouble since it started and Nissan has done absolutely nothing to solve the issue. Our charging ports broke. Our sensor in our front end had to be replaced. The back sensor screams at us if we so much as park behind a leaf. We started to hear a "clicking noise" when we turned the steering wheel and took the car in for an inspection (this came at the same time as the only recall on the car, so the timing was convenient). They said everything was fine and that they "fixed" the clicking. Not so much. Lastly, the breaks failed and he got into an accident yesterday. Not only did the breaks fail, but so did all of the safety features that are put in place to prevent this very same type of accident. No breaks, so he couldn't slow down. No sensor went off before the accident, and finally, the car did not break automatically on it's own, which it's supposed to do. Thankfully, no one got hurt but this could have been so much worse. When we talked to Nissan about it, their only response was that it was our insurances problem. We're never buying a Nissan again, let alone a Sentra.

I wanted something that looks sporty with great mileage I found it. I drove hundreds of cars and this one here turned out to be my favorite. One thing about this car you need to know right away it only brkes for traffic when you have the progressive cruise control on. The front emergency stop only works for pedestrians. The rear will stop for pedestrians or anything else. The Toyota Corolla did not have enough room in the backseat for a 6 ft tall person to sit up straight. The Honda Accord and Civic along with the Malibu or the cruise have a 1.5 liter engine. They had a turbo charger on them to make up for performance. It has a cost. The turbochargers are prematurely failing or the valves for them. They are are causing diluting of the engine oil with gasoline now.. Turbochargers only belong on the larger diesels with high compression.. if I had to do it all over again I would buy another one I'm very happy with it the only problem I have is getting out and in.. hopefully this information helps people looking have a good day...

I really like the outside look of the car. I love the black trimming detail. The interior is nice as well and the seats are comfortable. It drives very smooth and you hardly feel any bumps on the road. Now There are a few things I don’t like. First off the infotainment system is very glitchy and sometimes CarPlay doesn’t turn on right away. I’ve taken it to be serviced for this but it wasn’t resolved 100%. The backup camera could use improvement as it is kinda blurry. The car is noisy when you turn it on and accelerate. It sounds like a car over 10 years old. Also, a few months after getting the car, I noticed a noise when I would turn and then a little after 10,000 miles I noticed my brakes screeching. I’ve owned this car over 2.5 years and I would not recommend it unless you’re in a budget

Seating is more comfortable than our CT4, front and rear. Pro reviews are way off as usual. Purchased for 16 year old son. No one needs a car that accelerates for a race track. I drive a 2003 Ranger that is truly slow. If I am first at stoplight, next car is half block behind. Most drivers have horse and buggy reactions. Safety features are robust. If you are looking for car for teenager can't go wrong. Purchase Nissan extended warranty. Modern cars can drain you out of warranty. Computer on wheels.

Ok, so: they took 3 months to diagnose and fix the engine mount that had been rattling since I bought it in May, Then the gear shift came right off! Wish I could post a pic! The front end collision warning light flashes off and on, for no apparent reason. Snow, fog, sun, rain, it doesn’t matter. It just arbitrarily blinks. As I that wasn’t enough! It does the emergency brake thing fir NO reason. It just did it again today! Just decided to brake for fun. Don’t worry about the traffic behind me who think I’m slamming on my brakes for fun! Add to that the NEW rattle in the front right of my car. It sounds like it’s coming from the glove box, but I emptied it. And it’s getting worse everyday. What can I say? I should have bought the Mazda I was looking at. SO done with this car!

RUN FROM THIS CAR

My wife needed a car to get to work. We grabbed the 2020 Sentra SV, hoping it would be a great commute car BOY WERE WE WRONG. It started around 3k miles the reverse camera would not turn on and after taking it to the dealership to service this, the issue continued, now you would have to come out the car open the trunk and slam it down boom it works now. Car felt too underpowered, very slow pick up even in sport mode didn't feel comfortable over taking and merging. Overall we didn't enjoy the car it made a lot of weird noises, the ride was rough, infotainment system was gimmicky and always lagged, the front collision warning system stopped in the middle of the road very dangerous and almost caused a rear end accident. We ended up trading it in with only 7k miles. Nissan needs to go back to their glory days where they made cars more exciting and innovative. They are really behind and don't show any effort to catch up.

I will say right up front that I do not own this car, but I have had one for several weeks as rental vehicle while my car was in the shop, and frankly I'm shocked by how good it has been. The interior is well laid out, and spacious enough for the segment. The adjustability of the seats on my SV were somewhat lacking; as someone with long legs, I like the front of my seat angled up to give support so I can sit comfortably close to the steering wheel, and sadly this wasn't an option. I do believe this would be fixed on higher trim packages. Rear seats were comfortable and shockingly roomy for a compact car. This was my first CVT experience, and it changed my mind about this type of transmission in a commuter car application. It's quite unobtrusive, save for the occasional instance where it hits a few different ratios on the highway before finding one it's comfortable with. It's not a fast car by any means, but there's adequate enough power to get back and forth to work. Ride quality is composed, if a bit floaty at high speeds on the highway. Gas mileage has been phenomenal. I've averaged around 37 mpg commuting to work, mostly highway at 75-80mph, but I've gotten up to 44.6mpg going a bit slower and not having to pull out to pass anyone. Overall, I'd give a 4/5 mostly because of the drivers seat not having enough adjustability, but this issue could easily be rectified on a higher trim package. I'd happily drive this car back and forth on work.

I have had the car a little over 6 months and this will be the 2nd time that I have had to have the sensors recalibrated. I don't know if it was potholes in Portland the first time, but this time the only thing I can think of was the car wash that put them out of alignment. Other than that detail (so far) I love my new Sentra!

If it weren't for the super look it may as well be a ford pinto. Brakes brake very unevenly, push starts usually works, clock lost time for no reason, I can hear the valves tap upon acceleration and it nearly killed me today. I was driving 50 and the front radar decided a guy crossing the oncoming side of traffic side of the road, was not to the left of me but in my lane. As I was giving gas the car slammed the brakes and all my equipment in the back set flew all over the place. Im pretty sure that guy also thought I have mental problems pulling such a bizarre random stop. Yup I hate thus good looking car . It is garbage

The Good: Pretty nice looking car inside and out and the seats are comfortable enough but that’s about as much good as I can say The ‘not so good’: Performance - both the fuel economy and acceleration are underwhelming. I have a very light foot when driving and I struggle to get 25 mpg in the city with the A/C off. If I turn on the A/C I usually see 22-23 mpg; just not good enough for what this car is supposed to be. This is made to be a bigger issue when you consider how sluggish this car is. It’s understandable if you sacrifice fuel economy for performance or the other way around but in this case you get neither. The straight up bad: safety tech. It’s seriously awesome that Nissan includes so much safety tech even with the base model the issue is it doesn’t work often. Almost daily I get false emergency brake warnings and at times the car will automatically apply the breaks even with literally no car or object in front of the vehicle for miles. Also I’m constantly getting error messages from the blind spot monitor and it says the monitor is unavailable for use. Lastly, apple carplay is hit or miss. Constantly restarts on its own or sometimes just refuses to work. I have to completely turn off the vehicle, lock it, then start it back up to get it to work. Same with the radio. Looking to get rid of the car as soon as prices come back down. Update: nothing positive to add. The blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert stopped working a little after a year of owning the car luckily the car was still under warranty but I can’t imagine the head ache the car will be when the warranty runs out. Needless to say we have since gotten rid of the car.

Suspension noise

My husband got this car for me brand new and there is a large clunking noise from the rear suspension, especially over bumps, since day one. Nissan is looking at it now. Is this an issue with all of these models or do I have a lemon? Besides the suspension concerns it is a great car. I enjoy this model very much.

This car gets looks everywhere I go, it’s definitely one of the more beautiful vehicles on the road. I bought my 2020 Sentra and within a week went on a road trip with it, racking up 2,500 miles. The whole way it was a pleasure to drive, rides well and handles fantastically. I average 35-50mpg easily, and while it certainly won’t win any drag races, it’s more than adequate for the average commute. The interior is gorgeous, it feels very solid and well crafted. Tech features are abundant, and the standard Safety Shield 360 is a great companion on the road. If you’re looking for something that is practical, good on gas, loaded with features and drop-dead gorgeous...give this car a serious look. I’m highly impressed with it. Great job, Nissan.

After two Hyundai Elantra Value Editions last one a 2018 I went with the Nissan Sentra this time my wife has a '19 Rogue and she likes that and the redesign of the Sentra caught my eye. So for starters it looks sharp especially with a couple of the packages thrown on so looks wise very very nice and have people confuse and ask if I got an Altima. the drive is really pretty good handles well and for the acceleration is fine. comfortable in the cabin not much noise other than. the expected increase in tire noise when changing to winter tires. The not great...To start the auto headlights are way too sensitive I drive through tree lines streets and my headlights are repeatedly turning on and off due to shadows, a cloudy day, or some days turn in the directions opposite of the sun the deadlights come so your each goes dark in the day..just annoying...Then gas mileage...I have a 40 mile one way commute with 37 of those miles in highway and no traffic..My Elantra consistently got 38 to 39 miles to the gallon the best I get out of the Sentra with the Eco button pushed is 34 to 35. with 400 miles of commuting weekly that adds up. The infotainment system regularly goes haywire and you have to stop turn it off unplug phone everything is good. The starting sequence doesn't always work and have had to let it sit for a minute and try again Bottom line it's a nice car but at this point its a purchase I regret.

You will love the overall appearance, handling, and safety tech. But the sluggish CVT ruins everything. Nissan continue to lack on power and droning. The 149hp does nothing compared to other competition. This is my 4th Nissan Sentra and my favorite was the 2005 Model SER. It was just a great car 175hp. I had a 2019 Sentra with 124hp which was a complete joke. And now this 2020 model is just a joke, this is my last hoorah.

Great redesigned. Few things that they should have tested and fixed. Engine can sometimes skip when accelerating. No wireless Android and very poor headlight visibility. No visor light with mirror. I have mix feeling on gas mileage. I drive just to and from work and fill the tank every 2 weeks. But driving long distance I can fill up maybe every 250 miles even though it says 375+ miles on the tank.

Bought new 2021 Sentra in June. Yesterday went to start it and it says key fob not found when it was right on the start button. Then the battery immediately started to drain. Couldn't get the car in neutral to jump it so had to have someone come out and jump it. After jump says engine malfunction, service now, Power reduced. Had it towed this morning to dealership who cant see it until Thursday and no rentals available. Irritating on a new car. Also I couldn't find a spot to stick the actual key into which is on other years.

The cars have tie rod issues that aren’t safe to be on the road and Nissan knows about the issue but won’t take responsibility for it and the passenger seatbelt is no good and doesn’t protect you during a accident if you have one don’t drive the car until fixed

I bought this car brand new and already had to change the emergency brake sensor, and all 4 door lock actuators because my doors weren’t locking. Every time I connect to the Bluetooth there is at least an 8 second lag. Plus the no seatbelt sound is very annoying as it won’t stop beeping at you even if you’re in a drive through.

Enjoying my new Sentra. Great stereo system and safety features. Live the backup camera, remote start and blind spot indicators. Will test out the cruise contol when I take it on a trup next minth. Just wish it had more pickup as my 2012 Altima has. Otherwise I love the car!

First thing gas mileage was exceptional. Fast forward 3 months into the winter now getting 18 sometimes 11 miles to the gallon. Absolutely no acceleration, drives like it’s stuck in low gear. Not even 5,000 miles yet. I keep bringing it in to the shop and they keep saying nothing is wrong. Just a really bad car and now I’m stuck with an expensive piece of junk. I didn’t even care how fast it went. I paid for the style and the mileage.

Got the car with 6,000 miles on it and within 4 months im having trouble with it.first the camera goes on and off took it to the dealership and they fixed it and it happen again.second the car breaks out of nowhere which is dangerous when there nothing on the road it happen to me 5 times already.the car drives slow and burns gas like crazy it feels like get 20 mpg.i would avoid this car as much as possible.now the inside the car is great and comfortable nice trim inside and lots of room that the only good thing about it..but the rest is trash and im trading it in as soon as possible to avoid further problems

Engineering Failure

David Golden, 05/16/2024
2021 Nissan Sentra SR 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

This little car has great creature comforts for the price and is a comfortable city car. But the engineering behind the CVT transmission is a failure. When using cruise control, the car compensates for a lack of engine braking by applying the brake. I believe this sends the wrong signal to drivers behind me so I don’t feel confident using cruise control. For that reason and other tech issues like Apple car play, the car receives low marks

I bought the 2020 Sentra brand new! I had it 24 hours and herd a thumping sound in front tire... I took it to dealer immediately. The concurred with me that something was wrong, possibly bearings? Etc... they gave me a loaner... 30 DAYS LATER, they still didn't know what was wrong! They ended up swapping the car for another, anyway I personally was at that point not happy about the car in general, it looks flashy for a cheaper priced vehicle, but it is cheap for real! I ended up selling it on carvana and actually made 3500$... it was covid times and everything was hard to get, so I had the car for a year and only put 4k miles on it! Never was a Nissan person, and never Will be! - The End

FUEL TANK! EMERGENCY BRAKE!

So far, my 2021 Sentra SV is remarkable. I Love everything about it except two things: 1. Fuel tank capacity is really low! Like I had a 2018 chevy sonic hatch that could contain more than the Sentra! Considering the size comparison, it's just ridiculous! 2. Emergency brake (front) is too sudden and sometimes unnecessary. Like approaching a road bump behind another car was never so scary as it is now! Also you can't turn it off permanently as it keeps getting back as soon as you stop/start your engine again!
