I replaced my 1989 300E (with 220K miles) with this silver beauty. Clasic looks, straighforward interior. Solid, safe, and secure. A blast to drive, and the BOSE stereo is awesome.

Electrical Nightmare

The car has been fine except for the electrical system, which has had problems off and on for my entire ownership of it. The latest issue is the electrical failing after a car wash (no lights, turn indicator, etc.). Scary. And the dealership can never figure out what is wrong. (Also the navigation system is quite poor and antiquated.) I would honestly never ever buy another Mercedes Benz.

What's with the rust?

Buyer beware! Buy something else, anything but this car! When I bought the car it had a couple of spots where the paint had bubbled up. Since then the car has been rusting worst than a tin can even though I've been keeping it in the garage. Mercedes refused to address problem (5yr/50,000 mile nonsense). $3,000 body work. Also, paid $350 to replace airbag sensor in front passenger seat. Dealer claims it happened because a heavy person sat in the car (what's up with that?) Spent $150 on rear window actuator. Dealer said because I don't open that window very often the glass got stuck to the rim!!!??? Oh, yeah one of the catalytic converters was replaced too!

This car is wonderful. I've driven the M5 and while it is probably more similar than different, I really prefer the E55. It feels much lighter in the handling department and the power, while probably close to the same feels much stronger with the E55.

I bought this vehicle from a corporate car dealer with original warranty still on vehicle. In the past 1 year I have been at the mercedes dealership more than 10 times. CD changer went out, instrument panel display went out, a/c noise, front suspension bushings replaced, exhaust pipes 2 of them replaced, and many more small problems. The loaner car guy knows me by name now, I have been there so many times. My Acura 3.2tls is a much better car. I will never-ever buy a Mercedes again. Too many problems and always in the shop.

We finally decided to get rid of this car after 23,000 miles and three major trips to to shop. When we bought this car and paid the amount of money one would expect for a Mercedes, we expected excellent quality and that is NOT what we got! The car is nice, has good design and rides well. But we cannot understand how the doors couldn't quite close right, the transmission as bad, and numberous other electrical and mechanical failures keep the car in the shop. The only good part of this story is that it was covered under the warranty. The bad news is someday somebody else will own if afterwards and have to foot these bills!

The worst car ever

I've owned this car for almost a year and it is horrible. My '92 Lexus SC400 with 149k is better made and more reliable than my Mercedes. Mass air sensor went without any warning, air conditioning is terrible and makes noise, display on radio is distorted. Parts are way too expensive, and car is very unreliable. Anyone considering a Benz, I would strongly recommend a Lexus. Toyota puts out a much better product at a better price, with better quality.

My E320 experience after 14,000 miles

The car is solidly built, like a "bank vault on wheels". It handles quite well in the rain at high speeds. I get an average of 25 MPG combined local and highway driving, computer showed 30 MPG at one time during a two hour freeway trip averaging 75 MPH speed. If you are looking for a safe, well engineered car with the latest technology, this is the car for you.

While under the generous 4 year 50K mile warranty I had lots of problems including driver's side mirror falling off due to cheap metal. The rear door regulator, transmission leak, cup holder, power headrests (twice) motor, lug nuts rusted away, and battery. But since the warranty was over it has only been an H20 sensor and the Teleaid antenna broke off. The styling is timeless and the ride feels like in an electric car. The motor is smooth along with the ride. There are no child locks for the rear doors though. Uses synthetic oil that needs to be changed every 10,000 miles. It gets better the longer I seem to go. Expect about 18 city and 28 highway

Bought my E320 new in 2001. Overall, excellent ride, classy vehicle, virtually no maintenance until about 90K miles. Between 90 and my current 115K miles, I have probably put $3k into the car for repairs (cat covert, air, regular service) but nothing before that except scheduled maintenance. Some electrical problems started to show up at 110K miles so I may be looking again. Overall, I am very pleased with this car which looks great even after 9 yrs and 115k miles. Service at dealer has been good except for 45 minutes of shop time to replace a headlight bulb. Complained the next visit and they made it right. This is my second MB and I will probably buy another one.

Simply put this car has power and handle in the worst weather condition! It's almost unreal how well it got through snow, rain, etc in the Northeast (Boston). It also carries the legend of the three pointed star ( great ride, comfort, dependability, room, etc ). I'm glad I didn't go the ML route and the G wagon just isn't my cup of tea. The e430 4matic is all the 4 wheel drive I need. My family loves it. I highly reccomend the Starmark warranty because you will want to keep this one for a long time. The A6 4.2 or older A8 AUDI is not even close to this one. If you need a awd sedan you'll now what I'm talking about.

The performance of the car is great. The build quality is great. It's comfortable beyond words. It's also a piece of crap. How can MB put so much into a car, and yet still build a car that idles quickly at times, or shakes at high speeds. It's love/hate. I love certain features and characteristics and hate others.

Well where to start? This car has so many features from the electronic stability control (esp) to its Bose surround sound system. What a smooth shifting transmission. Big difference from that old 4 speed to the new and improved 5 speed with auto stick. And the 4 wheel fully independent suspension faculties and ABS brakes.

Wonderful car for hauling clients and family. Stability control intervenes on any fun. Acceleration which once was blazing is now considered merely above average with new offerings from MB, Audi, and Porsche, and of course rumors of the new BMW M5 and M3. Still one of the best values in luxury automobiles. Now if we can just put the supercharger from the '04 model on this one, it would have a power to weight ratio of a 911 turbo.

In twelve months of ownership, I have been to the dealer eleven times for fixes and repairs: replaced power seat motors; replaced remote keys (twice); reset of lock system so I could open my truck; replace driver door seal; etc.. I believe my car was built during Octoberfest. The dealer has been somewhat sympathetic, and MBUSA has been entirely arrogant. Next time a Lexus

Acquired in 2021, 20 years old, w/ 145K miles, lots of recent expensive service B4 my acquisition, springs, struts, A/C compressor, drier, receiver, alternator, battery, new key. I’m going to do rear SLS nitrogen accumulator balls w/hydraulic fluid swap, and hopefully have a solid car my 17 year old kid can use to haul his drum kit around in a lockable, enclosed, bank vault of a car! This Benz thuds over our crappy, ubiquitous SoCal freeway expansion joints, compared to my ‘83 BMW 533i!

Looking for a AWD, E320-4matic is the only AWD in a sedan that glides through snow like hot knife in butter. It's quiet, responsive, and luxurious. I wish I had heated seats, but for the money, I can add seat heaters for a couple of hundred dollars. The Nav is a bit awkward, but does work as expected.

I've owned nine BMW, 3 Audi's and just about everything else a driving enthusiast would want in the price range of less than $60k. This car is by far the best I have ever had. Let me explain why. I'll start with the M5. Power, grace and superior handling. The E55 tops the M5 in every category except handling. The trade-off is comfort. The E55 changes gears quicker than the manual M5 so it provides the best of both worlds. I could go on, but in short, this car is great! I change cars every six months due to lack of satisfaction, but this one is a keeper. It changes gears like a Porsche, It's comfortable like a Benz should be.

It's 01/2010, my car has 83,000 miles on it and it performs / rides like new. Drove from Houston to Florida straight through at 80-100 mph and still got 25.5 mpg average for the trip...hard to beat! Repairs can get costly, but the performance is worth it! (Get a warranty if you can) I'd recommend this car to any car enthusiast!

This was my first Benz when I bought back in 06. It did pretty well for the first year, but then the car started to have numerous problems. The wind sheild wiper stopped working, the CD player broke (and still is broken today), and some various other things seemed to not work the way they should after a while. We ended up spending about $6000 overall in the past 4 years. However, I'm not really the kind of person that treats their car like a baby or even owns a garage, I also ignore regular servicing a lot. After we got all this fixed though, the car seemed to really work well and has continued to do so so far. I'm not totally sure I'd buy another Merc but I'd definitely buy another German car
