Needs Software Update - Beware

4/26/24 - I have now had my 2024 C300 purchased from MB of Athens for 30 days . We are still unable to use the navigation system as intended. The major reason for us buying the vehicle was so my wife would have a car with a state of the art navigation system. We, in my opinion have a new vehicle that has a flawed navigation system. The system is unsafe, distracting, and confusing. When you have the navigation system and the entertainment system both on, you hear those two things at the same volume. In other vehicles I have owned, the entertainment system automatically mutes so you can hear navigation announcements. The situation was discovered, when my wife tried to drive home from the dealership after delivery of the car. She had a bad confusing experience which in turn leads to a terrible car buying experience. On the way home after delivery of the vehicle, she called the salesman. She complained that she could not get the system to work correctly. It’s my opinion, that both my wife and the salesman became frustrated with each other: the salesman in trying to overcome a flaw in the car, and my wife trying to understand what she was doing wrong. I also had a bad experience when I took the car in 3 days later to find out what was wrong with the system. The software flaw in the navigation and entertainment system has caused a contentious relationship with the dealership. Awaiting a software fix from MB.

The Mercedes C-300 is a very beautiful and luxury car. However I do have concerns about the quality. First off, the infotainment had to be corrected after just several days of purchasing the car. Who has to take the car in for maintenance after a week? Second the dealership knew I purchased car out of town, so why am I being charged for mileage when they keep my car for an entire day? I was never treated this way when I purchased my BMW, excellent cuatomer service. Shame on you Mercedes.

One word: smooth

I bought the 2023 mb c300 to replace my 2011 c300 sport. So, same car, 12 years newer. In 2011, I reviewed 8 cars, narrowed it down to 3 and couldn’t get past the lines and looks of the mb in Paladium silver and light tan interior. It was my dream car. While not a rocket, is had ample power, smooth shifting and I enjoyed driving it anytime I got in the car. I get attached to my vehicles ! I thought it handled very well ( not big on braking around corners if you don’t have to ) but felt every bump in the road with the low profile sidewalk tires and sport suspension. Surprisingly, it was a beast in the snow and never had problems in bad weather even with just the sport tires. Over the years, I would take a loaner from the dealer when in for service so I drove the newer models of the c class and mostly still liked mine better, especially the console gear shift versus the turn signal-like shifter on the new models. I liked being able to “tap down” the shifter to reduce speed down long hills and always felt like in complete control. It also was a very easy car to drive which is something car manufacturers rarely talk about. The speedometer goes up to 160 mph, but even if you get up to 80 mph on an interstate, the needle is only pointing straight up, halfway to the max. I don’t want to drive over 100 mph and think a max of 100 mph on the speedometer would be a very helpful, although “un macho” safety improvement. Just saying! So how does the 2023 compare ? Smoother power: 255 hp vs. 238 Smoother shifting: the 9 speed is fluid and seems to shift just when needed even better than the 2011, but the paddle shifters on the steering wheel don’t give the same feel with the electronic shifting compared to the old style gear feel. Smoother ride: the 2023 has a heavier car feel and nicer ride. Front seat has a nice fit feel and the steering wheel with my AMG package has a luxury/sporty feel and makes me want to drive with both hands on the wheel. Smoother ambiance with the interior lighting. While not really important, it gives a very classy feel when in the car in low light. Smoother sound: while the 2011 sound system had a somewhat “tinny” sound, the Burmeister system in the 2023 is better than my home stereo and with the Apple play screen it is like being in a concert hall. This is something important to me, especially on longer trips, and just adds to the overall driving pleasure. I paid about $39000 in 2011 and the new c300 was about $55000 with my options in 2023. So, $16000 more in 12 years. Worth it ? So far, I am very satisfied with my choice and time will tell.
