BEWARE! DO NOT GET THIS CAR!

Do your research. The CX90 PHEV has major hybrid issues. I leased this car in September and 3 weeks ago with only 5k miles on it I had a major hybrid system failure and had to have the car towed. Took all day and Mazda Roadside wanted to charge me. Its been in the shop for three weeks and they say it needs a new hybrid battery but they are back ordered and have no timeframe on when it will get back. I got a CX30 loaner but they are still charging me the full $570 a month lease payment. I called Mazda Financial and all they said they could do is defer 22 months payment to the end of the lease FOR A FEE!!! I have put a sop payment on all future payments and have begun the process of filing a lemon law claim against Mazda. Look at the CX90 forum they are having all kinds of issues with this car and their customer service is HORRIBLE. Do not get this car! You have been warned!

Mazda CX-90 Prem Plus Low Hybrid a lemon for us...

25+ visits to our dealer over 8 months and only 3300 miles on it as purchased new. We had every recall it had actually occur and got every one of these corrected at dealer through several visits. Big issue, 100% dead 12v battery in driveway. Over MANY visits, our dealer put in a 3rd new 12V starter battery since the new battery was still failing in only 3-4 weeks of use. Finally on 3rd battery, dealer and Mazda tech figured out the battery was being grossly undercharged due to a software issue. That finally got fixed at the expense of far too many returns to the dealer for this serious issue. After all of this, the loud and annoying low battery alert and dash warnings still continued to occur almost every day, even with sufficient driving done daily. Dealer said it was normal, ya, right. We had had enough of this Hybrid in only 8 months of ownership and we felt we could not depend upon it for a long trip and traded it in at a $10K loss for another make of vehicle that was gas-only. That gas only vehicle has performed flawlessly with zero returns to our dealer for anything. The 2025 Mazda CX-90s are again being recalled for many issues. This model should be avoided until Mazda figures out a lot of things it should have before releasing this new model in 2024. The CX-90 is sure to blemish what was a clean record in general for Mazda. The CX-90s are a dud, period! Avoid or flip a coin on any decent reliability, if you choose to get one! Also, consider that the much greater technical complexity of using a Hybrid over a gas only vehicle, may come at cost of reliability over time. While our gas-only SUV does not get the higher MPG that our CX-90 had, it was greatly worth getting a vehicle we could depend upon 100% of the time and know it would not let us down when we needed to rely on it.

We got a lemon. Trying to get rid of it now. Check engine light on and Mazda takes forever to try to fix anything. Throws codes left and right. Recalls out the wazoo. We will just call this one a loss.

Watch The Car Care Nut Reviews of 2024 CX-90 and pay very close attention what he has to say about their engine and mechanical end. We have owned this for 8 months now have taken it in twice after 4 months, engine is making a low noise its faint and is coming from the engine rear where the chains are., Mechanics keep saying oh don’t worry just the noise engine makes, well it was nice and perfect for 4 months now it's making noises. Asked about a block heater reply was they have not built one yet and are working on it, oh and it's going to cost me 800 to have it installed plus parts. In the dead of winter car heater does not get interior very warm, again oh that’s just the way car runs they say. Take note no alternator it regens from your electric motor sandwiched in the transmission. Oh, and the coolant pump is an electric pump. Majority of engine repairs will require engine to be pulled which will require majority of your front clip required to be removed to pull the engine. The front drive axels go through oil pan like a BMW any front-end repairs will cost big money as the engine needs to be pulled to make some of the repairs. if oil pan has a gasket leak need to pull and drop front end to repair an oil leak. I need to replace my windshield and the cheapest I can find was 1200 all the way up to 1800 quote say windshield is expensive then they need to verify calibration of sensors. Purchased the Mazda heavy duty weather floor mats what a joke the price of them not worth it. Mazda will also talk you into under car corrosion spray this was before I found out the car has a skid plate from front to back so there is nothing to spray. Had to shut the fuel saver shut car off at red lights off because it was sometimes cutting out and not restarting. Turn the lane departure system off because it’s so aggressive if driving in the winter you will end up in the ditch or accident, forgot to turn signal light on once when using an off ramp that it jerked me so hard almost side swiping another car. Mazda has had 10 recalls in the first year for this car. Overall nice inside feels to have a solid firm ride but that’s where everything ends consider other options.

This car is great to drive. Our trips are usually around town (Waco). There are a couple of trips per month per month to Dallas, Austin, Kerrville. The car’s responsive sport feature kicks its acceleration up a notch. It is most useful for on-ramps and passing and is easily engaged. From about 40 to 90 it pulls solidly and does not run out of oomph as other cars do, it just goes. The ride is comfortable, smooth. It does not wallow. It feels planted at speed, and feels sure footed in turns. The interior is comfortable, and longer travels do not tire us out. The front row is spacious, shoulder, leg, and headroom is plentiful - much bigger than other midsizers. The second row is spacious. The third row is described as cramped - we use the third row occasionally - it is for grandkids not adults, and that suits us. The Bose audio is one of the better systems at this price level. After seven months of use, we still exclaim after we finish a trip: ‘That is a good car.’ We are pleased. Definitely would get another CX-90.
