From Acura MDX to Mazda CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus

My son is a new driver... The family Acura MDX has carried us safely on many adventures for well over 180,000 miles and now it is his safe passage for the future. The “trade-off” is that I have to take on a car payment once again, however, the CX-90 PHEV Prem Plus has not disappointed and has proven to be worth its price tag! We have already taken it on a trip over 500 miles, through rain and snow with no issues aside from the bumper sensors being temporarily blinded by road spray and dirt. The electric ride is smooth, and the sport mode is useful to get around slow moving vehicles on single lane, country roads (of course in safe passing zones). I look forward to driving it for years to come, but am admittedly nervous at the level of technology built into the first year vehicle that could pose long-term concerns - time will tell.

Love the CX-90 PHEV A LOT

I sold my previous Lincoln Corsair GT due to the recall on the engine fires. Decided too long to wait for a solution. Started looking and placed an order for the 2023 Cadillac XT4 Sport but 2 months later the dealer had not even placed the order with the factory because of allocations. Terrible experience. Turned to Mazda after finding the CX-90 PHEV in Artisan Red with white interior. Stunning interior and love the incredible red paint which changes colors based on light and curves in the design. Love it. The ride is incredible and super quiet due to the double pane glass. The gas mileage includes 28 miles of EV miles and that covers most daily trips for me. So, I'm getting eMPG of 76 which is incredible. I fill up maybe three times a year. The car has been superb since we moved and were able to load up a lot by lowering all the seats. Better than a pickup truck in my opinion. I have really been impressed with the Mazda sales process since the sales reps are not paid commission but straight salary. They get bonuses though but they are not desperate like some car sales reps are. They are more like Tesla in their behavior. The sales process was great and I had no bickering and got the car I wanted the day I picked it out. Was incredibly smooth and stress free. After getting the car, I researched Mazda's history and focus on engineering. Mazda uses a much thicker steel when creating the car and their paint process is well known as unique in the industry due to the levels of paint they do. I am really impressed with their plug in hybrid technology which I believe is helped by their Toyota relationship (Toyota owns 10% of Mazda and Mazda uses Toyota Finance). I'm quite impressed with Toyota since they lead the world in hybrid technology and was glad to find out of their relationship to Toyota. Update 6 months later. Superb car. No complaints and only praises.

Unfortunately with less than 10,000 miles on my CX-90 that I love DEARLY, I just had to file lemon law because my engine + hybrid system + i-stop feature are all malfunctioning. Save yourself this heartbreak and just don’t do it!

Luxury at a better price

I have a platinum plus phev. The look of the interior is fantastic. All the info, nav, phone. Android auto ac. Settings simple and easy to use and clever. Live the seats. Love the ac. The battery ev is the only disappointment. 26 miles gets used quickly. Driving in Normal balances it out. I needed a bigger vehicle for my big gorgeous dog, beach equipment etc. I like luxury and needed space mazda does not add 5k surcharge ir dealer ad on. I love my new car

2024 CX-90 Low Hybrid worst vehicle we've owned...

We owned a newly purchased CX-5 and it had zero issues. We then traded it in 2 years later for a more spacious 2024 Cx-90 Low Hybrid. Issues began at only 250 miles on the Odo. Low main battery issues, including dead battery, and constant annoying low battery warnings on dash and through speaker system. We had the power steering fail during a trip and had to drive with a disabled power steering for over 350 miles until we got home. We had both rear radar sensors replaced because they failed. Our dealer replaced the stock battery twice and we were on our 3rd new battery with only 3500 miles on the odo. Mazda tech support finally figured out the alternator and regulator was undercharging the batteries that had died. It took 7+ visits to get the batteyr issue finally resolved. We had every recall Mazda had for our VIN. Finally at 3800 miles on this car, I'd had enough of the dash warning (drive vehicle to charge battery) as that kept coming up all of the time. The dealer did so many software updates, I honestly lost count unless I looked through my stack of invoices. I ended up trading my new 2024 CX-90 for another make that was gas only. I'd had enough of the many tech issues that Hybrids have plus one lemon of a hybrid that Mazda introduced far too early with many issues along with it. While Mazda is considered a reliable brand, that will not hold true at all for it's Hybrids, be it the low Hybrid I had or the PHEV plug-in either which has even more issues than mine did. Given the recently introduced Mazda 2025 CX-90 has already had one or more serous recalls, it's "here we go again" with this risky model. Avoid the CX-90 altogether until a model year comes along where the vehicle proves to be far more reliable. ...and 2025 isn't going to be that year!
