The car has a smooth ride but cabin noise is a minus. Great gas mileage.

One of the best cars I have owned

Reliable. Good fuel economy. Fun to drive. Good amount of interior space. Good looking car. Economical. Has a luxury feel but very practical and fun. Owned for 4 years and not a single problem. Driven over 50k miles. Tropics. Beaches. Deserts. Mountains. All kinds of weather. You name it. Mazda knocked it out of the park.

100% happy with this car. Only reason we traded it in was for a larger interior. We loved our CX-5. No complaints whatsoever. Terrific car.

Beware of transmission problems.

Our 2020 CX-5 with 36K miles on it developed a very subtle "chirping" sound when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. Looked online for others with this problem, and found that Mazda had issued a TSB regarding this very issue. Recommended fix: a new torque converter. Dealer evaluated my vehicle, and in fact said that is what they would do, under warranty. They had my vehicle for 5 (five) weeks to perform this repair. When I picked it up, I immediately noticed that the "chirping" sound was still apparent...they either didn't road test it after working on it, or maybe they did nothing, hoping that the fact that it was in their shop would somehow placate me. I immediately drove it back to the dealer and pointed out the noise. Long story short, they're going to replace the transmission, however it could be 4 months before they receive a new one for it. Perhaps I've been lucky, but I've never had a transmission problem on any vehicle I've owned; that includes the '08 4Runner I'm driving with 236K on it. Unfortunately, even though my wife and I really like this CX-5, and planned to get stay with Mazda vehicles, this will be our first and last Mazda. Update 12-20-24: Three days ago, the serpentine belt tensioner snapped off. We subsequently had the vehicle towed to the local Mazda dealer. They informed me that apparently the pulley froze; the resulting force from the serpentine belt snapped the bolt holding the tensioner to the engine. At 37k, this failure is not covered under the engine/powertrain warranty, however the dealer chose not to charge us for this repair. Obviously we appreciate this accommodation immensely, however this latest mechanical failure has definitely colored my opinion about Mazda's reliability. I thought since I was buying a vehicle still actually made in Japan, it would be trouble-free like my '08 4Runner with 235K on it; apparently that is not the case.

The good: Somewhat comfy seats, reliable functionally after 60k miles. The bad: bad gas mileage. All of the features are awful. Beeps at you for everything car a million miles behind nad in front of you you it tells you careful your gonna crash. I even had it brake for me initially on the free way once when the car started to slow like 6 car lengths in front of me. Turned off all the features they suck. It only ever helped me stopped once when I was a bit late. The ugly: the key fob is absolutely terrible. Normally it makes the whole car honk at you if your keys drop on the seat getting out it loxked me out and the keys were no where to be found. If you click lock twice the car honks at make volume. WHO THE HELL THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA

I liked this CX5, I actually got them four additional sales form complements. Spring forward 60K miles and premature ware is happening from a meticulous maintained vehicle. Right after warranty expired a timing chain cover leak, wiper motor blown and a cracked infotainment system. Called Mazda Customer Experience and got the run around. Needless to say this is my last Mazda, quality control has a lot to be desired.
