Great car, Great value 2.5 GT AWD
I did my research for a new SUV/CUV purchase, compared all the manufactures out there. Price was important, but so was power and features of the cars. My choice was clear after I test drove the CX-5, had the power I needed for every day traffic, comfort, handling (This thing handles like its on rails) and the tech included. Bose sound is fabulous, I wouldnt go without if considering this car. Gas mileage was best in class for an AWD CUV with the HP offered. Sure, the 260 HP Turbo offerings from other manufactures sure sounded nice, but the MPG suffered drastically and so did the sticker price. In my opinion, you cant get a better car in this class for the price, not with all the CX-5 offers***4 year update- 95,000 miles and would still buy this car all over again. Regular oil changes, 1 brake job and a few wiper blades. I have a slight dash rattle in the corner when I hit a bump but it has been a cold winter and I'm sure that has something to do with it, I will check that out in the spring. Might consider trading up next year but I'm not crazy about all the interior changes they have done, specifically to the center arm rest and radio control knob by the shifter. We liked mine so much my wife bought a used 2015 CX-5!**6 year update- im at 153,000 miles now. Replaced my shocks and struts this spring along with a trans service I did in my garage at home, the car just goes and goes. Thinking about passing this one to my son who will be driving next year and purchasing a 2nd hand 2019 or 2020. If I could find a brand new 2014 or 2015 I would buy once in a heartbeat! **7 year update- I purchased a new 2021 GTR in March and have passed the 2014 to my son with 165,000 miles. No major issues, just typical wear and tear. I decided I wanted to test drive one with a Turbo and ended up driving it home the next day. I will continue to Zoom Zoom for many years now :) No new updates, so this will be my last for the 2014. Y son is almost done with his behind the wheel requirements and will start driving the car soon.

So happy I went with this vehicle!
Overall, I have to say that I am really pleased with the 2014 Mazda CX-5 GT with Tech package. I feel like it was a great value and upgrade from our previously owned Jeep Compass. The ride can be a little stiff on bumpy city road surfaces, but feels great at highways. The handling is fantastic and sport-like. It feels like it handles more like a sedan than an SUV. We broke in our CX-5 by taking up to the mountains right off the lot, and it handled great up the hills (plenty of power). I've seen many comments about road noise, and this vehicle was far quieter than others in its class that I test drove. It's a little loud at start up, but that is the rapid engine heating system.

CX5-FWD Touring with Tech/Bose Package
Firstly, heart felt thanks to all the other reviewers for their reviews in helping in my car purchase process. Had to make a decision between the CX5 vs Forester and went with the CX5. So far so good. Car makes engine noise when just started and also on windy conditions, you can hear the wind noise inside the car. Drives real smooth around corners and in city conditions. For me the lack of reclining back seats nor enough rear leg room for adults was not a deal breaker. Forester has better reliability and AWD as standard. CX5 Bose/Tech package is amazing especially the night adaptive halogen headlights. If you drive around poorly lit areas, this will make a ton of difference.
Great Car for the Long Run
I have owned mine sicne 2013 and have put 92,000 miles on it. I am on my third set of tires, and have changed the brakes once (and probably need to again). Other than that and oil changes, nothing. It runs as well as it did the day I bought it. As far as reliability goes, nothing beats it. It handles better than most others in it's class, but it lacks power. However, power and performance is not likely why people buy this type of car. For what it is, it is a great little SUV. The infotainment system can barely be called that. It does have bluetooth and I think the GT has optional nav. But the screen is small and the system is slow. But again, if infotainment is what you are looking for, you aren't likely looking for a 2014 CX-5. If you want to pick up a 100,000 mile SUV that you can get another 100,000-150,000 out of, then this is definitely your vehicle. The styling of it is still up to par, and every bit of crafting on the inside was well done. Mazda has really stepped up their interior game since the late 00's. I would buy this car again 10/10 times if I could go back and do it again. It was a relative bargain at the time and fit all the car seats and junk that comes with a young family!

Way More Than I Expected!
I was coming off owning a '98 Ford Explorer and owning a 2004 Honda S2000 as my 'fun' car. Took the Explorer in for a funny noise, got a $3,800 estimate and realized it was time to put the Ford out of it's misery. The Honda wasn't going to cut it for daily stuff and I still wanted either a station wagon or an SUV, but was really tired of the 15 mpg that the Ford got. Looked at the Outback and the Escape, but was blown away by the CX-5. Without repeating what everyone else has said, I'll leave you with this: The CX-5 AWD with the 2.5 liter Skyactiv engine is 90% of the utility of the Explorer and 95% of the fun of driving the Honda. I love this SUV/car/CUV vehicle!
