Brakes keep locking up. Smart Brake System defect

BP, 10/04/2020
2019 Mazda 3 Preferred 4dr Sedan AWD (2.5L 4cyl 6A)

I bought this 2019 Mazda 3 AWD fOr my daughter. The “smart brake system” keeps malfunctioning. Out of nowhere, for no reason, it slams on the brakes until stopped. Picture yourself driving on a highway at highway speeds with no car in front and the car stops short with incredible force. Do you see yourself getting rear ended? It happened before the recall and it continues to happen after the recall was completed. The car was at the dealer for 32 days last week. They can’t replicate the problem so they don’t know how to fix it. I brought it back to the dealer yesterday because it happened yet again. They just called me and said we cant duplicate it so come and get it. Nobody is permitted to drive this car because I’m afraid of an injury. I’m headed for lemon law attorney now.

Amazing Value and Style!

2019 Mazda 3 Premium 4dr Hatchback (2.5L 4cyl 6A)

I am throughly impressed with the 2019 Mazda 3 Premium Hatchback. It comes fully loaded with so many safety and tech features, and on top of that, it is extremely luxurious inside. This Mazda is much more luxurious than Mazda vehicles of previous generations. I have owned a BMW, Land Rover, Volvo, Lexus, and a Mercedes, and this vehicle is just as luxurious on the inside as any of those vehicles. It also drives both sporty and comfortably at the same time! This is hands down the best hatchback you can buy on the market right now. Update 7 months later: This car still performs great and remains an amazing value! It’s handling is very similar to that of a BMW. The red interior is eye-catching. There have been some open recalls, but Mazda has been good about repairing the issues. Overall, this is an amazing car with a beautiful interior and exterior. It’s worth taking a look at! Update after one year and 21k miles: Everything I stated previously remains true, except a few additional comments. There have been a few recalls, and there was a minor problem with one of the speakers, but the dealerships have been more than accommodating with fixing the issues. I would recommend waiting a model year or two to get this vehicle if you are worried about these recalls; they are simply the result of a new production model. The hatchback drives amazingly well still. I often forget that it’s a Mazda, because it’s so luxurious inside. I stand by my previous review that this vehicle has amazing value and style! There have been no engine, transmission, or powertrain issues (which are the types of problems I’m used to seeing even early on with luxury European counterparts).

Huge upgrade from the 2017!

I owned the 2017 Mazda 3 HB GT for a couple years now. Was an awesome car to drive and super reliable and one of the few cars still producing a manual (never owned an automatic). After getting the 2020 Premium manual, I could never go back. Every single part of this car is an upgrade from the 2017 which I already loved. The styling is next to none and the inside literally looks like a premier high end vehicle. Switching gears if effortless and more fun than ever. The entertainment system and Bose sound system are top notch. The Carplay is awesome and the sound quality is super crisp with great bass. The safety features are great too and make driving effortless and essentially worry free. There is less space in the back seats for additional passengers but honestly that is not an issue for me because I rarely have more than one passenger in my car. And the with the backseats down I can still very easily fit my road bike and golf clubs when needed. The margins are low on Mazdas for a reason, they offer top notch features and styling for a fraction of the price you'd pay for other car brands.

I traded in my 2014 Mazda 3 which I never had any issues with for the 2019 Mazda 3 premium. After 2 weeks the Bluetooth no longer worked , on 2 occasions now the brakes slammed on all on their own almost getting me rear ended and now owning it for only 9 months and 3000 miles - it would not start. The car was parked in my garage and I needed to call to have it towed which wasn't an easy task. The tow company had to go back and returned with a flat bed. The car is still at the dealership and as far as I am concerned - they can keep it. You pay that much for a vehicle you expect it to run!! I can't imagine what kind of issues I am going to have in the future since they already started this early in the cars lifetime.

Way back in the day, my parents bought me a Mazda GLC to travel back and forth from college. That car was quality through and through... yet, I never considered Mazda again. Until now. I purchased a 2020 Premium Hatchback with all the bells and whistles you can think of having. Machine gray with the black trim kit. A beauty! I couldn't be happier. I got tired of the "keeping up with the Jones's life... and after having owned five previous Lexus models over the years, I decided to "downgrade" to the Mazda. Yeah, the funny thing is... it wasn't a downgrade. This car is everything and more. Premium high end interior, amazing ride and handling, lots of great "Hey, that's a good looking car" comments! Mazda, I'm back... and hooked!

I recently traded in my 2005 Base Mazda 3 for a 2020 Base Mazda 3. The price I paid was only $1,800 more than I paid for a new car in 1991 (YES! 29 years ago, and only $1,800 more!) -- the price point is EXTREMELY competitive! Imagine my surprise when I sat in the Base model for the first time, and saw leather dashboard, leather console, leather wrapped gear shifter, and leather trim on the doors! This car is truly fantastic! The bucket seats hold you in place while cornering, and this car corners like it's on rails. Acceleration is smooth, quick, and nearly silent. Steering is tight and responsive. Despite what the window sticker says, I'm regularly getting an average of 45 mpg! I have no idea why this car has such a poor rating on Edmunds -- I think people are complaining about things that don't exist. Do not believe the poor ratings here -- you need to test drive this car for yourself! The only thing I don't like about this car is the "Lane Departure Warning" (shakes the steering wheel and buzzes on the dashboard when changing lanes without signaling) and "Lane Keeping Assist System" (physically resists you changing lanes and pushes you back into your lane). I am not a big fan of software driving my car -- I want to be in full control of my car. The good news is that you can easily turn these features OFF via the on-screen display in the car. I also would have liked a sunroof -- but I can totally understand why the Base model (bottom of the line, el-cheapo trim level) does not come with a sunroof. Seriously guys -- there is nothing but GOOD THINGS about this car! This car deserves a 5-star rating! And remember my 2005 Base Mazda 3 that I traded in? It had 258,000 miles on it, and everything still worked! These cars are unbeatable, and truly amazing -- I truly expect to get the same quality out of my 2020 Base Mazda 3!

I can not imagine ever trading this in or selling it. It seems like every new car is following particularity bad trends (ie: every driving command controlled by a glitchy touch screen infotainment), but the Mazda 3 is going in the best possible direction. The amount of engineering, thought, and attention to detail in this vehicle is incredible. The infotainment is fast and you don't have to avert your eyes much from the road. Your arm rests right where the control knob is- so you don't have to look at the screen almost at all - once you get used to the UI layout. The handling on this car is superior to any car I've driven - and the AWD is an added bonus. Though, sometimes you can really feel the extra weight of the AWD system. If 0-60 speed is a concern, the FWD will feel quite a bit faster. The manual mode is very responsive and fun to use. Overall, there is very little about this car that I do not love. The seating in the back is a little cramped for tall passengers, so that is something to consider if that is applicable to your lifestyle. I have not had an issue with cargo space because the seats fold down almost flat - however I do not have kids and usually only have 2 to 3 people in the car at one time. Overall, I would buy this car again in a heartbeat. PS: Mazda, please bring the heated steering wheel to U.S versions. We like our hands to be warm too.

I purchased this car for a few reason, it's gorgeous inside and out and it offers AWD. I've always wanted an AWD sedan for the way they handle and for the added traction and stability they offer in the rain, snow or what have you. I did my due diligence and read many reviews as well as watched video reviews on this car so I thought I was well prepared and knew what I was getting. A good number of the reviews are done by journalists in markets other than the USA so they mention features that are not on my car. I was excited about this car because I wanted Traffic Sign Recognition, 360 degree camera, Traffic Jam Assist and Lane Centering. All are features that are only offered in markets other than the USA and all are described in the owners manual of the car. Needless to say I purchased the car and didn't even realize that these features were not on it. I assumed that the Premium model that I purchased would be fully loaded. Also, the Traffic Sign Recognition only works if you pay an additional $400 for the digital maps needed to activate the GPS system. I found the maps on eBay and bought it for $150, a huge savings. I got lucky and it works just fine. It did add Speed Limit notifications next to my Speedometer but not true Traffic Sign Recognition. The speed limits that it displays are stored as part of the GPS maps, not read by the camera system to be displayed on the fly. I also feel that the GPS maps should be included as standard. This car has been recalled a few times already, one for loose lug nuts and the most recent for the Cylinder Deactivation System which could malfunction and seize the engine. It's a software fix so I'm not overly concerned. Also, I get a warning that the Auto Headlights are malfunctioning if the car sits all day in the hot sun. When I get into the hot car and start it I get the warning message. Mazda is aware of this too but so far no recall to fix the issue. The engine is very smooth and revs willingly. The transmission is probably the fastest shifting automatic that I've ever encountered. It's shifts are silky smooth, precise and always in the right gear. So far fuel economy is nothing special. The trip computer says that I get between 19-22 City and 26 Highway. I'll give it a while longer to see if it improves as the car breaks in. The interior is a bit small but that's fine with me, I'm only 5'8" and I like everything to be within reach.

Went to test drive a 2020 CX-3 originally. It was better than expected but not what I really wanted. I much rather have the 3. From the moment I saw it at the dealership, I knew I had to test drive it. The model I drive was a 2021 base model. It was nearly perfect. My disappointments were few, but significant. One, the 2021 base model has a smaller engine. Secondly, they do not offer Apple CarPlay/Android Auto unless you step up a trim (Select) and blind spot monitoring is not available on this trim. Oh, and it comes with 16” wheels/tires as opposed to the 18” wheels/tires on the higher trims. However, even without those features, the car impresses. Get in and look around. Quality shines in the details. The infotainment system is very good, although I miss the touchscreen functionality. The feel of the seats, the craftsmanship of the interior, the movements of the knobs, stalks, console, etc. is exemplary, even in base form. When driving, I felt as if I had owned this car all along. It was a natural fit and feel. Everything falls into place. That big C-pillar isn’t so big if you use you mirrors and actually turn your head when attempting to change lanes or park. I was looking to buy a CUV; not any more. This car is almost as roomy, much better looking, and is a car that can haul the things I need while being stylish. Some loathe the rear quarters. Others love it. Count me as the latter. I suggest grabbing the 2020 models while they are still around. The 2021 models are having the trims and features shuffled (a few standard trim items now optional). Drive it. Yes, it costs a bit more. But that difference you will feel is indescribable.

I traded in my 2014 4 door i Grand Touring. It was incredibly reliable but horrible in snow. I have not had a chance to really test the AWD as it is now spring. The interior is MUCH upgraded, and the infotainment system and safety features rock. Very 21st century. Beautiful materials / craftsmanship on interior. Much quieter ride than previous versions. Not an ASS-kicking engine, but fun to drive on winding roads. Still has the "Zoom-Zoom" especially in Sports mode.

I bought this car (Mazda 3 Select) about two months ago and have already put 4000 miles on it via several road trips. I can say that it is extremely comfortable, up-scale, and it is Fun to drive. I came from a 2015 Honda Civic (1.5 l turbo) . Having owned both I can say that I can give a slight edge to the Mazda just because of the handling and feel on any curved road. It's just fun and almost whimsical to drive. Don't get me wrong, both the Civic and the Mazda 3 are excellent compact cars, and they both have many strengths and few weaknesses, but I am just ever so slightly more in love with my new Mazda!

I purchased a new Mazda3 in April 2019. I originally test drove a 2016 Mazda3 GT because I thought I wanted a used car vs a new one. After driving both, I chose the new 3 premium package. Although I've had one hiccup with the car (which the dealership promptly corrected), I've enjoyed how comfortable the car is, as well as the gas mileage. My only complaint is how easily the piano black interior trim scratches. It seems that the trim should be ALOT more scratch resistant than it is. The Radar controlled cruise control takes a little getting used to also. Overall, an awesome little car :) UPDATE: At the 8000 mile mark something went TERRIBLY wrong with this car... it slammed on brakes all by itself, causing injury to my neck and teeth. It has been at the dealership now for 26 days with no date given for repair. Apparently my car was one of two that has done this in the US. If you have kids or are an older adult who can’t afford to take the risk, don’t buy this car until the Mazda engineers can assure you it’s not going to develop a mind of its own!!! Bottom Line: Mazda USA ultimately bought this car back. From what I understand, the car was to be taken apart completely to investigate what went so wrong. I turned around and purchased a 2019 Mazda 6 Signature edition, which has been a true dream car to own and drive. Obviously, my experience with the redesigned 3 did NOT sour me on Mazda products! They absolutely stand behind their product and it was greatly appreciated by me 😉

The redesigned 2019 Mazda3 is a big upgrade. You really feel like you are driving a luxury car, not just your standard sedan. It retains the driving excitement that Mazda3 is well known for, but the interior feels like a Lexus or Audi. Very comfortable and quiet ride with all the features you’d need.

I simply must have a manual transmission in a sporty package, but I wasn't expecting such a perfectly balanced offering at this relatively reasonable price. The electric steering is reassuring and not vague. The power band seems to be everywhere from 1,500 rpm up to rev limit. The low profile tires are mated to a firm suspension that never beats you up but always seem sure footed. The interior is luxurious, the seats spectacular and the Bose stereo is awe inspiring. Sure the rear seat doesn't offer quite the same comfort, but if styling is important the hatchback is a real attention grabber. The gas mileage for us is 34.7 mpg for mixed driving and many hwy/local combined trips end up over 41 (up to 42) mpg when driven conservatively.

I recently purchased a next-gen Mazda 3 and have had constant issues with the car since the day I bought it. Let's start with the emergency braking which went off without cause an hour after I drove the car out of the show room. After this continued everyday for two weeks I decided there must be something wrong with the car and it was also becoming very dangerous. I brought the car in and they told me nothing was wrong with the car only to find out a week later the car had been recalled for that exact issue. Once they fixed that all the other issues proceeded to follow. -Air conditioning blowing out the completely wrong temperature -Constant rattle from the passenger seat belt -The sound system not working for a day -The passenger door always getting stuck I also had the worst experience at Brookvale Mazda with service manager Darren. I have never been treated so poorly. He should not be on the front line. It's safe to say this car is terrible. Please save yourself the time and don't buy a Mazda.

Where's the catch?

Yannick, 11/20/2020

It is hard to find a true bargain in life. Most of the times, things you thought would be bargains are in fact, slightly rubbish. Therefore, when something seems to be a bargain, there is usually a catch. The new Mazda 3 is a rare thing : it is a bargain. Well, there are a few things wrong with this car. Visibility is, at best, ''rather poor'', to put it gently. Cargo space is also a bit limited for the segment. And I am strugling to find more things wrong with this car. Anyway, the poor visibility is almost a non issue when you start looking at this car. It truly is amazing looking. It is not ''good looking for the segment'', it looks amazing in its own right. And the best thing is that the interior is just as good. It looks italian and feels like german built quality, which is kind of best of both worlds. Anyway, about the cargo space, if you are looking at that kind of car, you clearly are not shopping for a minivan, aren't you? What about reliability? I have a 2.0l manual GX hatchback, and nothing went wrong. It's also fairly simple mechanicaly, since it has a naturally aspirated carry over engine and should be rather reliable in the future as well. The suspension is effective but actually fairly simple, and there is a lot of working room in the engine bay. That means that owner maintenance is fairly accessible (looking at you, VW). Oh, and the manual transmission is sublime. The clutch is very well weighted and the shifts are precise and quick. What does set it appart is mainly the way it drives. It drives amazingly well. It manages to be comfortable and sporty at the same time. It is incredibly quiet at highway speeds for a car of this class as well. The seats are also very comfortable. So where is the catch? It drives even better than a german car, looks as good as an italian car, but here is the cherry on top of the cake : it was built by the Japanese. It's also practical and very well priced. That is the good thing about this car : there is no catch.

2020 Mazda 3 Premium 4dr Hatchback AWD (2.5L 4cyl 6A)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful

things i like: i enjoy driving this car. steering feels completely analogue and tight as heck without that disconnected digital feel you get from a subaru legacy or ford escape. It is similar in feel to driving a Honda which is a very good thing. comfy seats in the front with ample lumbar support for long drives and the pedals feel like they are in the right place for comfort and responsiveness. Neither Here nor There Observations: the car is very attractive from the front and the back but some argue less-so from the sides because of the odd shape of the hatch and window placement in the back seat. The car can accelerate to highway speeds quickly after you are out of first and second gear, but those gear ratios seem tuned to a little higher rpm so the car will sound stressed if you are using metered onramps where you need to accelerate quickly. the car can handle it with its 180ish horsepower but the sound might annoy some people. things i love: the premium interior legitimately rivals bmw and lexus. it looks sleek and is made with high quality materials. it is showy without looking tacky. very intuitive media controls that dont use a touch interface. this is a massive POSITIVE. touch interfaces require that you look at something to get feedback on what you are doing, Mazda instead went with a wheel that has satisfying individual clicks with a rocker directional input as well. it is simple and makes navigating menus very easy and fast. The placement of the media display means that you won't have to take your eyes off the road to use it. the heads-up display helps with this too and is an extra i recommend getting. Android Auto. Finally, a simple plug and go android integration. it works well with google maps and can handle multiple apps with relative ease. voice commands Things I am Disappointed In: The fuel economy is bad in the AWD model and much much lower than the epa rating shows. I am averaging between 23-24 mpg after 8000 miles on the car with a few roadtrips. Hills eat up your fuel economy like crazy. the glossy plastic center console scratches easily. Mazda should consider replacing that with a different material on their next iteration. The visibility through the rear window is a much maligned fault of this car. it can be overcome with a HUD and the wideangle backup camera, but it is what it is. I wish it had just a tiny bit more ground clearance so it could clear parking blocks, right now it is at the exact right level to just scrape the tops of them. This is just a minor annoyance though. Extras Worth Getting: 100% Get the heads-up display. it integrates with the safety warnings so you barely need to even turn your head when driving. it also completely eliminates the problem of poor visibility out of the rear window with the blindspot monitoring. The bose surround sound is perfect for live recordings or drive-in movies. it does a great job with directionality which is nice for movies but not super useful for driving around. definitely turn off the virtual surround sound. the post-processing muddies up everything. use the direct input and the audio sounds great. it is still great for studio music and it is well insulated so your car wont rattle when the bass hits. you could get better aftermarket sound but youll have to pay out the nose to have it dampened and present as visually clean as the bose system. Overall: I love this car, it feels fancy and road capable. I've driven it through the mountains and in stop and go traffic and its given a comfortable ride throughout (though i prefer it on highways). It is not without its issues but it has what I want in the places that matter to me.

It’s great on gas on the highway, but no good on gas in city. No legroom for backseat passengers. Backseat can only transport small children.

This car exceeds my expectations and I’m a car fanatic who values details. Mazda tried hard on this car and you can tell. It drives largely like my A3 Quattro I leased, though it won’t implode after 45k miles and bend every rim it has. Further, it costs much less and every surface is finished properly. The Bose is downright impressive. Seat comfort is high (memory an added bonus). Infotainment is logical and easy to use, and the car is quiet even up to speeds of 80 mph except for some concrete surfaces. The ride is controlled and well damped, though bad roads will send some slams through but what do you expect with low profile 18”s. And for the way it handles, which is excellent, the trade off and stability are worth it. Seriously short list this car. I think only the Accord (NOT civic) can match or beat the cohesiveness of this design. Not to mention the 3 is far more beautiful than any Honda ever. Last worthy mentions: headlights are great and I enjoy the active bending (though not required) and the heads up includes Nav directions and blind spot info. Pretty spiffy! The adaptive cruise and lane departure are sometimes abrupt but make sense in line with the sporty drive it yourself Mazda ethos. Conclusions: For the price you can’t beat it. Most people don’t need accord size, so why not do more with less. A premium product at a mainstream price. Took the time to write this because Mazda should be recognized for how special their products are.

Upscale Design, Styling, Features - Econobox Price

2019 Mazda 3 Select 4dr Sedan (2.5L 4cyl 6A)

Initial thoughts on 2019 4th gen Mazda3 -- Ergonomic multi-function display & controls; superb instrument cluster display; front seating comfort with fast simple manual adjustment; upscale interior fit & finish (black vinyl); key-less walk-away locking & push-button start; modest, but very usable trunk space; and quiet, comfortable highway cruising all make this 2019 Mazda3 Sedan Select the high-value leader in the ever-dwindling compact sedan sector. The new-to-2019 torsion beam rear suspension degrades the nimble handling of previous generation's independent suspension. The 2.5L normally-aspirated 4-cylinder should contribute to low maintenance and long life compared with the small turbocharged engines of most competitors. But, 186 Hp / 186 lb-ft is not enough grunt for this 3,100 lb gross weight car -- don't expect a lot of zip especially with the 6-speed automatic transmission in economy mode (use the Sport switch on the center console to change out of the default econo setting). My wife, the primary driver, finds the 186 hp engine mated to the 6-speed AT more than adequate and is averaging 35 mpg in mixed highway/city use. I much prefer the performance of this Mazda traditional automatic transmission to the "rubber band" feel of CVTs found on most economy compact cars. And, while the jury is still out, I suspect that CVTs will not nearly match the longevity of traditional automatic transmissions. Rear seating is tight -- tighter than that of our smaller 1990 Honda Accord that we traded for this Mazda3 -- carrying adults in the Mazda's rear seat is an emergency procedure. There are a couple of other niggles: The Mazda remote key fob is larger than and not as well-executed as that of the Honda Civic; the electric steering is responsive, but excessively light with minimal feedback -- again, my wife has no complaint; the "Mazda Connect Owner's Manual" covering the infotainment system that is referenced in the primary Owner's Manual is not available in hard copy, only on the dashboard center display (while the battery is rapidly depleting, the idling Mazda3 is burning up our precious carbon fuels, or while the distracted driver-cum-reader meanders through traffic); the printed primary "Owner's Manual" runs hundreds of pages half of which are safety cautions and warnings from Mazda USA's legal team -- e.g., prohibitions against allowing children to play in the trunk compartment or warnings against jumping from moving cars with detail on why these are not good ideas. Despite these niggles, the 2019 Mazda3 is a very complete package with design, fit & finish, and strong underlying automobile technology that far exceeds it's price point. The purchase from DFW area Hiley Mazda in Hurst (Rich Longworth) was swift, smooth, and very accommodating.

Awesome Car

I did extensive research on this and its competition, as I needed something that would be comfortable and fun to drive. I came from a BMW X1, which had a number of mechanical issues along with some electrical ones too. Once my lease expired, I did not hesitate to get this car after having test driven the competition. + The feature content is astounding and puts its competition and luxury makers to shame - love the HID display, active safety features (blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, etc.) + One-touch illuminated windows that actually go all the way down + Readable navigation (I bought the SD card) I'm actually not a huge fan of Apple Car Play - I think it is over-rated. Plus the SD navigation shows in the HID when driving + Comfortable interior with exceptional design and attention to detail - especially the seats and dash + Fun to zip through the canyons and traffic + Great visibility Wish List Ambient lighting with color choices 8 speed automatic (more gears) Economy mode in addition to sport mode Auto-stop when at a light More power.... without loss of efficiency

Fun Half Baked Car

Bentley P., 01/18/2022
2019 Mazda 3 Premium 4dr Hatchback AWD (2.5L 4cyl 6A)

The car drives amazing, it has an athletic feel about it. I thought the car had plenty of power and the engine was smooth for the most part. When driving the car, you can tell the engineers spent time making the engine and transmission work well together. I thought the exterior of the car was stylish and the interior was pleasing to my eye. The seats are comfortable. I went from a “luxury” car and I would say they rivaled those seats. The Bose sound system sounded amazing to me, it was one of my favorite things. I don’t normally care for Bose car audio. The car sadly had numerous issues. The piano black plastic around the shifter would scratch ridiculously easy. The lens cover for the instrument cluster also had problems with scratching. My red leather seats faded in general, and the wear points practically turned to an off-white color. The black rims developed a light milky haze and tended to develop rock chips easily. The HUD developed a metallic vibration noise that was fixed by the dealership and developed again within a couple hundred miles. Numerous rattles developed in the dash of the car that seemed to be temperature dependent. There were consistent rattles in the door cards and the pillars where the seat belts mount to the car. I also had issues with the weather stripping tearing around the doors because of their design. The windshield would develop so much condensation that the car was virtually undrivable. I have never seen a car so prone to condensation on the windshield. I have had many cars over my 20 years of driving. The front doors also have issues with sticking closed and has never been resolved by the dealer. When I purchased my car the variable cylinder management (VCM) was undetectable. The car was recalled for a flash to change the way the VCM worked making it very noticeable. In certain instances, the engine would develop a vibration when the VCM kicked in. I think slight inclines and the VCM activation caused the engine to convulse. On rare occasions when engaging the cruise control the RPMS would fluctuate by 500 or so RPMS, causing the car to shudder to the point that the steering wheel would develop a visible vibration. I really loved the personality of the car. I thought it was a fun car. I really wished the car would have worked out. I couldn’t handle the symphony of problems, so I sold the car back to the dealership. I would have bought another Mazda in a heartbeat if this car wasn’t so half baked. I’m not overly picky, this car was a total sh*t show. I am used to car issues, my two other cars are Volkswagens.

I leased the 2016 Mazda 3– an incredible car. So I upgraded to the next one available, the 2019. The low profile tires are its detriment. Sure she’s beautiful, but these tires have made me afraid to drive this car. On my second new tire, love the car, but you cannot hit any bumps with these. Even without hitting any crazy bumps, I’ve gotten two bubbled tires now. If you live in a well paved area, maybe this isn’t an issue. But something to note.

Mazda's Masterpeice

I love this car, 10k miles here is my review. To start off with whats wrong. Easily the Infotainment is sub par. Mazda doesn't want you touching while driving so you use a scroll wheel. Some things are very counter intuitive, say every time you want to switch radio stations it will always start you from the bottom of the list, to make it quicker if you add favorites but they aren't in numerical order. It takes 20 minutes of driving to understand it and maybe a week to get use to the wackiness. However if guests take control they'll have no idea how to use it and it is always funny seeing their shock with how unusual it it. The easy counter to this, just always have Bluetooth on your phone connected, Spotify or Pandora makes it a better radio than normal AM/FM. And second is Lane Departure Warning/Assist. I have actually turned assist off because it has only ever helped once. Many times I move over due to a Semi Truck, or cars drifting in my lane in a turn, or to move out of the way for lane splitting motorcycles, however doing these will result in the wheel moving back towards the object you're avoiding, it can be counter by holding on tight. But the night i turned it off was when i was exiting the freeway. I was in the left lane of a two lane, left turn lane. The camera picked up the wrong lines and "corrected" me turning the wheel to the right, this happens a little to often because it will pick up changes in the road like old painted lanes or changes in the road concrete or asphalt. I just have the noise alarm on, but that maybe still be a bit useless unless i'm in cruise control because i generally always know when i'm near the line because i am doing so on purpose. However Besides those this car is amazing the HUD is a little bare i wish it showed which turn signals were on, but if they are on and a car is in your blind spot the HUD will flash orange. The BOSE sound is some amazing audio. Its not the fastest engine but in Sport mode it has some, not like 350hp, but a little kick when you step on it. Handling is fantastic, its rolling suspension feels like your flying or on a boat in smooth water. It also looks amazing. There aren't tones of these on the road, plenty of Mazda's CX-9 and 6's but with the large front scoop (with a horrible place to put a license) and no fake front vents, sleek aerodynamic lines (Drag coefficient of 0.26) and nice looking headlights and turn signals. I would definitely suggest at least the preferred model. This car is perfect for anyone trying to stand out, loves an open road and the act of driving.

I traded in my Denali SUV for this small AWD, Hatchback The good..power, quiet, great HUD, more comfortable for long drive, high end look. The bad....blind spots, lack of room for more that two, back seat, nothing you'd be surprised regarding a smaller car. Bottom line: Worth every penny

I love the car, leased it 2 weeks ago on 06/11/2019 had it 2 weeks now, the only issue i faced was a Push to start issue, the car gave me a hard start but dropped it off to the dealer for a service look and it should be all better. I love the luxury interior, feels like I'm driving a BMW and the exterior finishes makes the car look so much more premium, I never liked the Mazda lineup until the 2019 releases!! Mazda have stepped up their game in style and luxury. I gave up my 2017 Honda Civic for this car and no regrets so far!!

4yrs of ownership now, and no change to my very positive review. I was looking to replace my replacement of my dying car with an affordable used car that suited me better for a longer ownership. I was looking at used, and had tested, lower mileage, Mazda3. Dealer said look at this new but last year's 2019 model Mazda3 w/AWD, which was new generation. Drove it and bought it. For only a few $1000 more but new car warranty, better interest rate and pay terms. Looks great, drives great, feels great, quieter inside, better basic sound, and noted reliability and safety (especially made in Japan versions). 28mpg w/AWD. Surprising get up and go from base 2.5L engine. Came with surprisingly good OEM tires. Amazing how much variety of stuff I have fit into this hatchback. And with a lower trim, i still got all sorts of safety features. Only reason not to buy are 1. You got more money and want more name and maintenance costs and depreciation and luxury than this near luxury car. 2. You carry more than 2 adults and 2 babies, as rear leg room is very small. 3. You need more than 5 inches ground clearance and more than onroad AWD. 4. You must have better than 28 mpg. 5. Some do not like Mazda dial info system. (Bit to learn, but then easy handle, safer/surer/durable than touch screen systems.) With driver aids, the lack of side-back view easily overcome. Back view is good. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, et al, cannot beat this car. (I had a turbo Subaru, and a nice Hybrid Ford) Warning: the beautiful Mazda paint (red on mine) is very thin and chips easily.

Pros: - love the style inside and out on the sedan. - love the way Mazda drives, handles well. - The Bose sound system is great. - I feel safe in this car. Cons: - Tight space, especially the back seats. - The safety features in the US are missing some items compare to other countries. - Missing some basic features even compare to my old 07 Jetta. (heater mirror, car alarm for break in, etc) - The display should have been touch screen as well, for when you're just sitting in the car. After having the car for about half year now, these are some thing off the top of my head. I liked the previous style of the Mazda, with this generation it's takes it up a notch. The Bose sound system sounds really good, I just wish there was a CD player. Yes, a CD player. Because mp3s and music streaming still have a lower sound quality than CD, I would like to see if this system can tell the difference. Make sure to do your research before buying, cause I didn't. I just assume some of the items were standard until after I bought the car. During the winter every morning my mirrors were fogged up, it was then I found out there's no heater mirror on the car. Most cars now a days have heated mirrors standard or comes with heated seats. I honestly don't understand what Mazda was thinking. I still haven't needed the AWD so I can't comment much on that. Personally I wanted a stick shift but I didn't like the hatch style or pay for the premium trim, oh well. Over all it's a nice car but like every car out there, it's not perfect.

Had the breaking problem when new and was fixed with an update. On the 3rd battery now as it has something that always kills the battery. Mazda says everything is good!!! If you don’t drive the car everyday especially in the winter the battery is dead. Must have some huge draw but apparently everything checks out ok? Last Mazda

Just picked up my new 2020 Mazda 3 Select AWD yesterday. The styling is awesome, the cabin is quiet, well appointed and the features for the money are amazing, once you are in and seated. The issue is accessing the cabin. The drivers door is narrow and the slope of the door opening is so steep that you cannot easily sit in the vehicle without contorting your back and neck into "odd" positions. Once inside there is plenty of room in the vehicle, its comfortable and quiet. I love the car, I just wish Mazda would lift the door opening headroom so you can more easily access the awesome interior.

However, I could not be more disappointed and will never get another Mazda. The most basic car functions do not work. The bluetooth is almost non-functional. When I talk to people they often can't hear me and when I leave a message it isn't decipherable. If I turn the fan all the way down, I have better luck as it diminishes the background sound. It still isn't clear but better. I never had any issue with my 2015 Mazda 3. Then the HVAC system is ridiculous. The thermostat runs very hot so it's hard to get a comfortable temperature in the car. Add to that it blows heat when you turn on the A/C sometimes. This is a problem they know about and say there is a patch coming. I have no confidence whatsoever in the fix. Then there are 2 gas gauges, one a normal dial that barely ever moves and another gauge adjacent to that that shows in a linear graph form the miles remaining. The 2 gauges never agree. Then the gauge with the miles remaining, started at 300 with a full tank but then only showed 280 when filled. Then it would drop 20 miles after I had gone about 4. This is absurd. I can't believe they didn't do the work to be sure of the quality control. I don't know if my car is a lemon or not but some of the issues I've been told are known and Mazda is looking to fix them. I sort of dread getting into my car not knowing what is going to happen next. It drives nicely, smooth and comfortable and the seats are good. But this does not compensate for all the normal functions that simply don't work. Shame on Mazda.

Its a really nice car. Very compact and comfortable. If you are much taller than 6ft, I wouldn't recommend. It's a nice family car if you have a smaller family. Gets amazing gas mileage. The trunk space is huge for a small sedan. Molded sears are comfy when driving for 2hrs plus. Definitely a good buy and worth keeping.

Sexy car let down by technology

The car has class leading exterior and interior styling (Honda, Acura, Toyota are not even close when it comes to styling beauty) but the information system is overall a step backwards and should be redesigned immediately. The screen is very poorly shaped as it is very wide and very narrow height wise thus when you engage the back up camera you get a very small image that occupies only a small portion of the screen ( I have never seen such a tiny image on a supposed premium car (the back up cameras on the cheaper Hyundai's I drove were superior as at least on the US version of the 3 mazda short changed us and did not include trajectory lines or 360 degree camera). Even my older 2014 mazda 3 had a better back up camera as the screen is much bigger height wise resulting in a bigger image which fills the whole screen. I also noticed that the maps on the Navigation do not fill the screen and Mazda foolishly deleted the touchscreen functions which is clearly a step backwards as apple car play and android auto are designed to use touch screens (the older mazda had touch screens but it could be used only when the car was stopped (another snafu as Mazda should have the touch screen usable even while the car is moving). Mazda also needs to add more physical buttons either on the sides or bottom of the screen as this is very user friendly feature which I find on many other competing vehicles. I am also disappointed that we get the carryover 2.5 liter engine. Mazda should have introduced the 3 with the 2.5 turbo and the Skyactiv X as options. I also think Mazda should strive to make their vehicles with more interior room and cargo room rather than almost always rank near the bottom in this category when compared to its competition( also you need to realize the 3 should had ventilated seats, rear a/c ducts and maybe a panoramic sunroof if it really wants to be considered premium). Maybe Mazda could improve the back up camera without doing a completely new screen with maybe a software update which makes the camera image use the whole screen and have trajectory lines (this could be a running change that would be included in the later produced 2019 Mazda 3 and given as free update to the buyers who already own a 2019.

Mazda is the absolute worst car company out there. I bought a 2020 Mazda 3 premium hatchback brand new 5 months ago and I've had it in service 6 times now for a variety of problems leading to the most recent my drivers side seatbelt came off and I was stuck from Saturday night till Monday morning with no seatbelt. I brought the car in today to have it serviced and they denied me a loaner but I have had a loaner car the other 5 times I have brought my car in for service. Customer service is terrible it's taken me all day of calling to get ahold of a manger which I still haven't been able to and corporate has only offered to give me egifts in the from of free parts. Save yourself the stress and don't buy a Mazda.

poor pedestrian visibility

A beautiful and well-appointed car: however, viewed from the driver's side, pedestrians coming from the right side are impossible to see until they are almost in front of the vehicle. In addition there is so much "car" on the passenger side that it is only by guesswork that a right turn can be achieved with any degree of accuracy. The curb is invisible until the turn is completed. Not the smartest nor safest design!

Guess ill try to reset system like windows 95.. wish me luck ...other then the transmission being quirky as well its nice. Not a 29k sticker nice.

I got Mazda 3 2020 preferred hatch AWD. It’s look nice but quality.... after 5000k miles I have divers door glass like rattling noice. Dashboard noice, sounds like some plastic part got disconnected and now jumping on another plastic part. Steering weal noice, can’t describe. Read door cricking noice. And the main noice is climate control, I believe all mazda 3 2020 are effected. It’s like camera shutter noice that appears randomly and really annoying.

Worst car buying experience ever!!! Nothing but problems air bag sensors and faulty transmission in less than 1400 miles. I would expect Mazda customer service to help, they have been a nightmare. Avoid buying!! Garbage!!
