Still one of the world's best cars.
When the LS first appeared on the scene, it was so good that it scared Mercedes into over designing their cars resulting in reliability issues and the loss of the stately image that was their hallmark. Now the Lexus LS has become the standard bearer for those who want a solid, stately, reliable luxury car. The LS 430 executes this mission flawlessly, It rides beautifully, refreshing the driver with every trip. It handles any road surface well. The build quality and reliability are world class. Controls are simple and driver friendly. The Mercedes W126(1979-1991) had many similar traits for its time. I still own a Mercedes 1986 420 SEL and the Lexus LS 430 is its natural successor.
luxury tank
Built like a tank to last holds all the amenities of a true luxury sedan. Had this since day 1 brand new purchased from dealer for $65k, still running like a champ to this day. Hands down best luxury and reliability for ever penny I ever spent.

Excellence & Suggestions
The 2006 Lexus LS 430 has absolutely superb performance in a wide variety of driving situations. Recently, we drove to the top of Mt. Washington, NH. Going up the performance was excellent and even better coming down with the manual gear changes to meet the percent down-grade. Our trip of 2,400 miles averaged 28.2 MPG which is better than the manufacturer lists. This included the mountain driving in New England. Handling and sharp curves were sure and comfortable even in this non-sports car. The automatic climate control required only occasional single degree temperature adjustments from 80 degrees to 39 degrees at the top of Mt. Washington.
Driver's Seat is Fabulously Comfortable
I think kwahaus review is way off the mark. If you can't be comfortable in the Lexus 430 driver's seat you won't be comfortable in ANY car seat! The adjustment possibilities are endless. Those seats are absolutely perfect for me and for my passengers.
A masterpiece
Riding and driving the LS 430 is like riding on a cloud powered by a jet! It is the most maintenance free vehicle I have ever owned.
Bullet Proof
This is the best car ever. Nothing to repair and it was 11 years old when I bought it. Timing belt, a couple of sets of tires, oil change, cabin filters and windsheild wippers and that's it. My goal is to put another 80000 miles on it.

Dream car
This car is the best vehicle I have ever experienced. Other than standard maintenance, I have had NOTHING go wrong. Service trips have been an ease with no appts, etc. This car beats my Mercedes on all factors - power, style, comfort, efficiency, SERVICE, fun!!
Fantastic
This vehicle is amazing. The ride quality, performance characteristics, and creature comforts make this easily one of the finest automobiles ever made. Smooth acceleration, with the ability to change driving modes, and a stunning ride that is both ultra-quiet and heart-pounding when necessary. The faster the car goes on the highway the smoother the ride gets, until you seem to be literally floating over the road. One truly has to be behind the wheel of this car to believe it. I purchased a 2002 Infiniti QX4 in 2004 for the same price I paid for my LS 430 in 2009. That car was a refrigerator on wheels compared to the LS 430. Talk about affordable luxury.
One of the best cars I’ve ever owned
The 2006 LS 430 is one amazing car. Just purchased one to keep in Boise Idaho where I work during the week (I live near Seattle). I drive a newer Lexus LX 570 at home and can say that the LS430 rivals it and even exceeds exceeds the LX570 in some ways. For a car that’s 13 years old, the technology and quality are simply amazing. Of course it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that my LX570 has but it’s pretty darn close. I bought it with 137,000 miles on it but it was so well cared for that it looks and drives like new. A testament to Lexus quality. I love driving this car! I had planned on giving to one of my daughters when I finish my Boise engagement but have fallen in love with this car and not sure I can give it up now. The ride is solid and silky. Feels like gliding on air. The ride is smoother than my LX570 granted they’re built on different platforms. As a financial guy, not sure that you can get more bang for your buck than an LS430. Truly one of the best cars ever built. Low maintenance costs, extreme comfort and reliability are a winning combination. If you buy one - you won’t be disappointed. Just do your homework and research the car’s history before you buy. You don’t want to buy someone else’s problem if it hasn’t been well maintained. But I can’t say enough Good about this car. I am completely smitten with it! Update: I finished up my Boise engagement last year and loved this car so much that I kept it for myself. I ended up buying two more of them and gave them to both of my daughters. Wanted to relay a quick story: While I was working in Boise I would frequent a 5 star hotel restaurant for dinner about once per week. The hotel had valet parking which I would take advantage of and the valets knew my LS430 well. More than once they commented how my car was nicer nicer, smoother and more comfortable than the new luxury cars they drove and parked. Since all these guys do is drive and park cars all day long I took that as a real compliment and it just reinforced what a special car this is. I still own my LX570 but I find myself gravitating to the LS430 quite often. It really is something special! Update - 3/15/2024: I'm still loving this car. The tires were getting pretty old - they were original Yokomama's from when I purchased the car in 2019 and were manufactured in 2015 so they were due to be replaced. I ended up putting on new Yokohama Advan Sports. I love the way these tire handle. They really do add a sense of maneuvering that pretty amazing for a car this size. The car is as smooth as ever but I'd like it to be a little quieter in the cabin. I wouldn't say it's overly loud but probably not as quiet as an S class Mercedes. I may attempt some sound deadening application to the the doors, trunk area and maybe the wheel wells. I purchased a decibel meter and I'm getting about 65 Db in the cabin. A newer Mercedes S class evidently registers about 50 Db. Part of this is probably due to the 18" rims and tires. They say that 17" rims are quieter and I suppose there may be quieter tires out there but I just love the way these Yokohama's handle and feel. And they are suppose to be tuned for noise reduction. My 18' chrome rims look amazing too and really add to the car's look. I was considering purchasing a newer Lexus LS 500 with air suspension which is powered by a twin turbo powered 6 cylinder that puts out 416 HP. But I love this LS 430 so much that I'm just not sure that I want to part with it. Plus it has that very quiet and dependable 4.3 liter - 8 cylinder power plant which might be the best motor that Lexus ever produced. I enjoy driving this car everyday and it is just a total pleasure.

Best Lexus ever built
2006 was the last year for the Japanese built LS430. Mine has been dealer serviced since new and the sales and service departments both rave about how much more solid and agile this car is compared to the LS460 and even the 500. When new 27 MPG at 70-75; Overall average was 22.4 until it hit 200k then slowly dropped to 21. Sure the Nav and bluetooth are outdated but its still smooth, quiet, and reliable. If you still have one, preserve it as it will prove itself to be the most practical car you'll ever own - worthy of 100's of thousands of miles of reliable and comfortable driving.

The car drives like a dream.
My last car was a Lexus LS 400.Car was 11 years old and ran perfectly. Will not own anything else. It is a quiet, comfortable and very reliable car. The car is almost maintenance free as long as you take it in for its checkups. The seats and interior are of the best quality and extremely comfortable. The sensors or parking guides are a big asset. The headlights shine 180, you are able to see the side streets at night to make a turn. You will have one of the smoothest rides you have ever had. Holds the road beautifully. The car drives itself. Will never own anything else.
25000 and rolling
The best car I've ever owned, so good that mentioning a few nit-picks seems out of place. Still, the front door are too long for easy opening in a parking lot. The nav. system was very hard to me to learn. The voice-operated controls are not useful and I keep hitting the "on" button for them with my left knee. But -- the mileage average over 25 in my rural medical practice, the sound system works flawlessly, guests in the backseat keep raving about their experience.
The 2006 LS 430 defined what being a Lexus means.
The 2006 LS 430 was the last year for the 430, as a result all the "bugs" (if any?) were identified the previous years leaving the refined 2006 LS 430 as the high water mark for the LS series and Lexus. The LS 460 has not enjoyed the perfection the LS 430 achieved making the 2006 LS 430 one of the finest automobiles available to this day and why the prices are very high, especially for the Luxury optioned vehicles with low mileage and service records being the ultimate vehicle available at any price today. My Uncle had a Bentley Azure turbo convertible that went for as much as many homes, it was allegedly the epitome of refinement but I can tell you at 120 mph hit the brakes on the Bentley and it might pull you out of your lane! I have driven every car you can imagine and none have the refinement od perfection of the 2006 LS 430. Look on the Lexus owners forums, the 2006 Lexus LS 430 is the car to be had for the knowledgeable aficionado.

Very nice car
Vehicle was a mfg buyback w/15K miles, ultra luxury package, supposedly had no start issues but under warranty. Paid 31K & just extended my warranty thru 8/75K so I'm covered for awhile. Absolutely love this car, best I can figure previous owner didn't drive it much & left the Smart key either in or near the car and the batteries would die. Haven't had any issues in my first year except had the front windshield R&R'd due to noise at 80mph against a headwind. Will be replacing original tires soon w/odometer at just over 25K. Just a beautiful ride, happy with everything except driver seat bottom comfort - it's just not very comfortable on a long drive, needs more cushion and support.
Still the best car ever made!!
Finally found a 1 owner Lexus LS 430 after looking for many years. Current car is a 2010 Mercedes Benz S550 4matic and YES it is a nice riding car but it constantly needs something repaired, that costs over $1000 each time. Now that I have the 2005 LS 430, I will say good bye to costly repairs forever. At 57 years old the barely used Lexus with only 117K miles will last me for the rest of my driving life. purchased last month for $13,000.00 and I am pleased to pay the premium price for a car with low miles in MINT condition. BUY this car if you find one that wasn't ever wrecked or badly abused. 300k miles is nothing for this car because it was built to last a million miles. Sure you may need to spend 2k on suspension, brakes, timing belt, wheel bearings but once completed it will last you a lifetime. what other car has a reputation to compare to the LS 430?

This car is a dream to drive!
I have had many cars in my life and this car is one of the best cars I have ever owned. It is very comparable, but drives like the BMW 745. I raced one of the BMW 745s the other day and we never left each other. So for those out there who think Lexus is only an old person's car, you are mistaken. I am 32 years old and have four other cars including the BMW M6. And the Lexus is still one of my favorite cars to drive!
Best car for the money
I'm in the finance business so I drive a lot. This is my 4th Lexus in 12 years all LS's. I went to test drive the MBZ S-Class, the 750 BMWs and the Infiniti M45 and I still come back for the best ride for the money. Reliability is a major factor in my decision plus I'm not a techno guy. Always looking for a solid ride and this car delivers. It helps that it has beautifull spacious cabin. Another 50 to 60hp will help against the Germans. I'm in my early forties I do feel the car styling a bit old fashioned. I know that the 2007 model new looks will help attract a younger crowd. Will trade up for new model can wait.
Nav Voice Needs Help.
My 2006 Lexus LS 430 is my fourth Lexus and tenth Toyota car. I have nothing but praise for the 2006 Lexus with one exception. The voice activation portion of the navigation system is not up to Lexus standards. Most of the commands are not understood which becomes frustrating when you want to enter a command. Some commands are fully understood, but most of the commands Lexus publishes are not understood. It surprises me that Lexus would put a less than perfect product on the market. Other than that, the car is a dream.
2005 LS 430 Excellence number 7
I have owned seven Lexus LS model cars. Each one has been better than the previous model. I have owned many other brands of automobiles in my life and none have been as totally satisfying as the Lexus. Nothing ever goes wrong with these cars. My latest LS 430 gets 21/22 mpg in all around driving and 26/28 mpg on highway trips.
Great car
What a great car. you only hear good things about this car but once you drive it, or in my case buy it you can't stop raving about how well built it really is.
Simply great
I have owned quite a few cars, about 19, including a couple of Q45's and BMW 741iL and this one takes the title. The BMW was junk, the infiniti's nice but not at this level. Only drawbacks, are drivers seat is so-so and has a cassette deck ( which I knew when I bought, no mp3) and the nav system is outdated, even for an 06. Otherwise, wow, what a ride and problem free for the past 23,000 miles having bought this new. It really does live up to its reputation, fun to drive, good performance when you step on it, and smooth as silk. Even my teenage daughters want to drive it, so the kewl factor survives, once you get into it.
Inadequate low beams
The first time I drove my 2006 LS 430 at night, I thought I did not have my headlights properly turned on. I could not see well enough to drive over 30 mph. When I called the dealer the technition mentioned that I was the third person that week to make the same complaint so I left it for diagnosis. Result- "no problem, "everything checked out to specs." When I pushed the saftey issue, I basically got a shrug and was told that the headlight system takes a while to get used to. I got caught in a rainstorm on the interstate last night and had to slow down to 35 mph. I could not see anything but other cars were passing by with no problem. Anyone else?
A Superb Vehicle
First class dealership selling a first class car. The ride and comfort are incomparable; all the bells and whistles that anyone could want. The only negative would be that it is not supposed to do well in snow- so, have another vehicle ready for thoise infrequent days!
The best 2006 auto on the market
This car is so quiet both inside and outside it is almost hard to tell when it is running or not. Very dependable. Comfortable seating front and rear. Fun to drive. Good response to power on the highway when passing.
2006 LS 430.
This is my fourth LS 430. They have all been the best cars I have ever owned. Prior tot he Lexus I drove Mercedes for twelve years and the difference is amazing. There has never been a better auomobile than the LS 430 in my opinion. I bought the 2006 because I had seen pictures of the 2007 and didnt like the styling as much.
Best Car I Ever Owned
Purchased the 2006 Lexus LS430 with 92k in 2012, It has 180,000k now, replaced only wear-n-tear parts, change the oil every 3 to 4000ks, still drives as it did, just like the first time I drove it. Very reliable, dependable, and sustainable vehicle. Sorry Lexus discontinued the model, possibly the best Luxury Sedan they ever made. I'm satisfied with my 2006 Lexus LS430.

Sophistication
After trading in my Jaguar S 4.3, this car is a pleasure. Scheduled service and XM radio install were the only service visits. Treated like royalty in the service and sales departments. The ride is unmatched. The drivers seat has a crazy number a possible adjustments including "depth" for taller or shorter than average drivers. Lexus has thought of everything.
Brooks review
Very impressive handling. The LS 430 surprised me with its ability to accelerate, handle curves, and gas mileage on the road. Very spacious interior, with beautiful leather seats and wood grain interior. Beautiful car.
Not Quite A Mercedes.
After careful consideration between another Mercedes S-Class, an Infiniti Q45, and the LS 430, I chose Lexus. Never having owned one, and with all the hype about the brand's quality and service record, I found it to be the best choice. I was very pleased with my initial period of ownership. The performance was great for the MPG I averaged around town (compared to my 03 S500). The trade-off in power didn't disappoint. The cost of maintenance was also dramatically lower than the Benz. The vehicle has been mechanically sound so far and I credit that to Toyota's years of powertrain technology innovations. The only part that is lacking on this car is, in my opinion, a sub-par interior build quality.
For the long ride
Good road car, not so much around town given low gas mpg. Exterior quality is not so great, paint pealed in one spot on roof post. Car handles very nicely with good suspension that quiets the ride. Seats are ok for tall folks - over 6' - good for those less tall. Interior fit and finish is very nice and looks very well finished. Corner acceleration is hampered unless your turn off the AFS. Car doesn't need a lot of repairs but maintenance is costly.

One flaw ruins the whole car
Bought this used last year after a ton of looking. Found what I wanted and was happy with the deal. I would rate the car a 9 or better if it weren't for one issue. The driver's seat is one the most uncomfortable I have ever had. Certainly not at all what one would expect. Dealer says nothing is wrong and is unwilling to consider a replacement seat even though it is still under warranty. Others who have driven the car, say the same thing. Unfortunately, this one issue will force me to sell the car. Looks like my 3rd Lexus may be my last.

Too good to ignore
It is quiet, luxurious, excellent responsive air conditioning, love the GPS, it is very comfortable to ride in, the sound system is great. Find the radio controls on the left just below the steering wheel get "accidently' touched more often than I would like resulting in a change of the radio station.
basically a good car
Do not get chrome wheels!!! Peeling after 6 yrs. tires can't stay balanced. Trying to replace wheels is a disaster. Even dealer can't guarantee that new wheels will fit with performance brake calipers. Closest dealer is 60 miles . I carry a tire inflator with me at all times. because of chrome wheels deteriorating can' keep tires inflated at proper Lbs Breaks beads. hvae to have them cleaned every 6 months. resetting maintanance schedule is a pain Have to crawl under dash. Blow fuses for cigaret lighter recharging Phones etc also trunk release finally had to have my wheels re done. @$260 each Outside chrome [Grill ] is peeling and turning black I wll turn 80,000 miles this month disappointed in such a high quality vehicle.

An Old School Favorite
So far everything works except for the expected voice activation portion of the navigation system. I purchased this car because I wanted to spend very little time dealing with repairs and fixes. Im expecting that nothing will require fixing and the only reason I will find myself at the dealership is to change the oil. This is a rear wheel drive car, so I hope it does well in the snow.
Why buy German!
Sedan driver all of my life and this is by far the best I have owned. My Mercedes did not stack up against this vehicle and Cadillac is way behind. Not the fastest vehicle in this class but plenty fast enough to get your pulse going and very easy to modify for speed.
My 2006 Lexus LS430
Wonderful! Power when I need it. Very comfortable. Only wish 3 things; one, that the compass were visible on the rear view mirror and second, that the screen on the dash could be more protected from the sunlight and third, that it could use regular gas. Hoping the 2007 has this.
Love that car
Love driving it, love the way it handles and the way it rides. The only two bad things about it is that the gas mileage is about 16 mpg all over and the voice recognition system does not work that well.
Best of all the Rest
I've not been a Lexus buyer in the past but when I gave up all the rest including the Mercedes I owned that challenges Lexus but doesn't perform as well no matter they hype, I found this to be my perfect car. I'm hoping it doesn't last too long and hold my interest too long where I won't buy another new car for enjoying this one too much. And, the pre collision radar system is worth every dollar for safety making this Lexus the best of all.
Will never sell this car!!!
This car has the comfort, power and surprisingly decent gas mileage for an 8 Cyl. Maintenance for a car of this caliber is more than reasonable, no major issues, going on 150K. Mercedes S class, BMW 7 series can't even compare. This car gives way much more bang for the buck than the European models, hands down.

Love my Lexus
This is one of the top luxury cars in the world. I am elated! Before this I owned Mercedes automobiles. The Lexus is easily 15% better than the comparable Mercedes in comfort, quietness and reliability. Victor Wood

The Legendary Lexus LS4300
This car is a legend in it's own time!! Soon to be replaced by mightier machines, but the LS 400 and LS 430 are symbols that will live forever. The last "corp" of LS 430s are to be endowed with BOSE suspension systems, making them more awesome than ever. What really amazed me about Lexus/Toyota is they believed they could do it, and they did!!! No whines about budget or working more than 40 hours a week - they worked and worked until they hit their target, then started on L-Finesse, a whole different ball game. But the LS 400 and LS 430 will live forever - they established the brand name and they put the "LEX" in Lexus. The greatest cars ever!!!!!
Lexus LS 430 2005 Model Type
The legendary LS 430 is hard to beat, especially when you factor in the price. With advanced robotic manufacturing methods second to none, incredible durability and reliability the LS 430 just goes on and on. You as the owner just make sure it gets an oil change every 5000 miles and use 93 octane gas. Keep the tire pressures at 35 psi all round. This is a sedan with the highest quality, very good performance and a thoroughbred to boot. A lot of misguided people say this car is a big Avalon. This is a myth, nothing could be further from the truth. Take the engine - this engine is a racing engine cut down from the F1 V12 to a V8 whereas the Avalon comes up to a V6 from the V4 Camry!!!
LS 430
I just traded an S55 AMG in for this Lexus. There are many pros and cons to this car but it could definitely use more horsepower, more high speed capabilities, and features geared to the driver and front passenger rather than just to the rear passengers. Really how many of us have a chauffeur. I do enjoy driving the car but admit I was a bit spoiled by my German auto performance and it's being geared to make driving fun for the driver.
Dealer won't take insurance for 10k mice!
The car is pretty, quick, very flashy with the 18" chrome alloys and gold paint, mileage in city for me 11-12 mpg. Mice got into the interior ate the leather! $10,000 to replace! dealer said they won't deal with insurance companies! what? $64k on a top line car and this? they should have said that on purchase day and I never would have purchased it! I have a 91 bmw 850 cherry so this cars power and stability to me isn't great!
Headlights
I find the headlights dangerous. They cast a shadow and it is difficult to see the road when the road is unlit. The dealership says they cannot be adjusted. I'm very disappointed that such an expensive car could have such a bad defect.
A Superb Car
I shopped for quite a while for a used, mint shape LS 430 and found one in Florida (a 2006) with only 5K miles and the Ultra Luxury package. It is an incredibly comfortable car which pampers everyone inside. It is a fabulous "trip car" and I enjoy the laser cruise feature on the highway. The back seat goodies on the Ultra (massaging seats, special rear AC, reclining seats, radio controls) are very popular with my passengers. Everything about this car is impressive to me and far better than any other car I've ever owned.
