Good realiable SUV. It's not as fancy as other SUV'S but, it's a tank in disguise.

Rides like a farm tractor, transmission seal failed at 30k miles replaced under warranty thankfully, also the steering wheel rattled like crazy and lexus claimed this was “normal”. Its also slow and with bad gas mileage. Was really bummed out. Couldn’t wait to get rid of it. There are much better options just do not buy this one.

Don’t get stranded in the middle of nowhere

We HAD (with emphasis) a 2018 Lexus GX 460 with only 27,000 miles on it when the alternator decided to completely fail. We live in a very remote area in the summer that is not close to a Lexus dealership so we had a local mechanic replace the alternator. When we returned to our main residence in Florida we took the vehicle to the dealership we purchased it from for a checkup and presented them the bill for replacing the alternator. The service representative said they would submit it to Lexus for reimbursement and we should get a check within a few weeks. Weeks passed and finally we received a call from our rep saying we would have to deal directly with Lexus Corporation. The corporate office made us jump from hoop to hoop while knowing full well they had no intentions of reimbursing us because we didn’t use a “certified Lexus mechanic”. Lexus has always touted themselves as a “customer comes first” company. Clearly these core values have gone by the wayside. Additionally their quality control that they have always prided themselves in has totally gone down the tubes. After reading all these negative reviews I can see I’m not the only one who has issues with this company. We will not be buying any more Lexus vehicles in our lifetime and many of our friends who own a Lexus will hear our story. Sadly Lexus will be keeping OUR $921.97. They apparently will need it to keep their head above water from all of their problems.

Never Again

I purchased this vehicle for my wife after having an excellent experience with a Toyota Tundra. I was looking for reliability and she wanted luxury, both fell short. I’ll touch on the main issue first, reliability. The vehicle is not by any means cheap and with the Toyota/Lexus reputation I expected superior reliability. Early on, we had a check engine light that turned out to be an emissions pump that failed; this is a recall on other vehicles, but not the GX. I don’t remember the exact cost, but it was around $3k, which Lexus did not cover any of that expense. Recently, the radiator went out, which was another $1k (this is sort of a wear and tear issue so I’m not really complaining about it, just mentioning). And finally the issue that ruined it for me, our transmission failed which is a $7k fix. This is considered a luxury vehicle, but compared to competitors it is about 10 years behind the times. The quality of the interior is good, but the dash has not been updated in forever and is honestly less desiarable than any new pickup truck. I will say the LX has been updated, so I would imagine the GX should get a facelift soon.

Had 2016 RX

Full disclosure total Lexus person. Had prior Mercedes but did not want to get into maintenance- which was 1000+ on old 2010 ML (okay I know to be expected). Wife had 2010 ML but I purchased 2010 ES - great car not BMW or Mercedes but not looking for that. 10 years later my son has ES. Last year got CPO RX - at first loved it- only drawback was seemed to me tried to make acceleration too sporty (full disclosure I am 52). If wanted that would have gotten BMW. Flash forward a year and looked at GX- always wanted one. Read all the reviews - it is truck based SUV and if looking for Audi/BMW look elsewhere. Also was looking for more room than RX , little sturdier ride and higher position. Would recommend second row captains chairs rather than bench. With three kids in college going to have for awhile. Lexus CPO best too as walk away with 3 year warranty on 2018 model.
