Few cars allow you the opportunity to dramatically alter the cost of ownership after the purchase, but the Kia Niro HEV can. By modifying your driving technique you can dramatically increase your MPG.

Better Than Advertised MPG!

I absolutely love this car! I'm very good at maximizing fuel economy in hybrids and keeping space from other vehicles to not apply as much gas and brake and man does this car reward good drivers! I'm averaging 56.3mpg with the trip computer showing 58mpg, so it overestimates the MPG by about 3%. My average is actual - taking miles driven/gallons pumped. This is a mix of about 70% city and stop-and-go highway traffic driving and 30% driving on the highway at 68mph or so, where I see the MPG drop considerably during that time. This is in relatively warm SoCal fall weather. If I drove nearly all city and stop-and-go highway driving I'd average about 60mpg. The 63.7 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the rear seats folded is subtantial and I like that the rear seats fold close to flat. There is a lip though where it is higher on that side than the trunk side but it's a very impressive cargo capacity given its shorter exterior length and extra space needed for the hybrid battery. This is a full 8" shorter than my last car, a 2020 Forester and I see how much easier it is to maneuver around the city and park in tighter spots. I'm so happy to give up only 10 cubic feet of cargo capacity from that Forester and gain more than twice as many miles per gallon. The Niro Hybrid also sells for less than a new Forester and it's better in nearly every way besides not offering AWD and giving up a bit of cargo capacity. Of course the Kia warranty is so much better too! The base LX model sound system is noticeably better than my 2020 Forester base model system and I love the wireless Apple/Android Carplay. It's too bad it's currently only wireless for the base model LX. That, and the way better fuel economy from the smaller tires, I don't see why anyone would want an upgraded model over the LX unless those additional options really speak to you. I like the safety systems like blind spot monitoring and other accident-avoidance assistance standard on the LX. It's a stylish car with nice alloy wheels and it's so nice and quiet on the road with a comfortable ride. The front seat is very comfortable and this feels like a quality car to be in and drive. The Kia dealer service through the purchase process as well as afterwards has been disappointing but they're lucky that a car like this basically sells itself. I'm thrilled with this purchase.

My 2023 Niro is 18 months old with 33000 miles. It has averaged 50.3 mpg. We have had no problem's. Plenty of power to get on the local turn pike. We are a retired couple that like to travel. The Niro is comfortable on long trips with plenty of room for our luggage. This is our fifth Kia. Have had nothing but good luck with all of them.
